Voici un tout petit mot à la mémoire de Josef Krofta ce grand homme si humain et
passionné...
Avec son grand enthousiasme et sa passion il emportait notre vision des choses, la soulevait et
nous rendait plus légers et plus solides. Un grand homme, avec un grand cœur plein de
chaleur. J'ai eu la chance de participer à cette création folle "La tour de Babel" dans son pays,
avec ses collaborateurs et de le voir diriger avec des grands gestes plein d'humanité, d'humour
et de chaleur. Une expérience qui a marqué mon chemin artistique mais aussi ma vie.

Liberté, égalité, fraternité- c’étaient des premiers mots que j’avais appris de Josef, notre
maitre, notre directeur dans les temps où il y avait un anniversaire chez eux (le bicentenaire de
la révolution fr), une guerre chez nous (la Yougoslavie) et une révolution chez eux (révolution
1989-Sametova revoluce)....Je crois fort, Krofto, que c’était pour les deux que tu vivais !

Que noticia tan triste. Miguel y yo hemos pasado un buen rato recordando nuestra
experiencia con él, y cuánto nos enseñó como director de escena y como persona.
El montaje de “Le jeu de l´amour et de la mort” y sus representaciones, fueron una
experiencia inolvidable. Lo sentimos mucho. Te adjunto una foto que puedes añadir
como nuestro pequeño homenaje.

Josef Krofta, sans doute le grand maître que j’ai eu dans la marionnette. Je suis triste, son
absence et son souvenir restent avec moi. J’ai eu la chance d’avoir travaillé avec lui comme
élève. Expérience que je porte comme un bijou dans mon cœur.

et c’est un homme formidable qui s’éloigne !
Il y a des années c’est lui qui m’a éveillé à ce dialogue si dense, si prenant, qui peut se
développer entre un interprète et un metteur en scène.
parfois même sans mots.
un monde dont jusque-là je ne soupçonnais ni l’étendue, ni la richesse , dans lequel je
déambule encore parce que lui m’y a invité
Je lui en suis tellement reconnaissant, depuis « la tour de Babel » et pour toujours
et je crois -j’ai mis longtemps à le discerner-, je crois que c’est avant tout l’esprit avec lequel
il m’a emporté qui m’a si profondément, si profondément touché !
un homme entier , planté tout contre chacune de ses idées, généreux au delà du mot , amical ,
exigeant, affectueux jusque dans ses emportements , et d’une grande dignité.

c’est ce colosse tendre et drôle qui s’en va
mais je retiens à moi les joies qu’il m’a données
les pierres précieuses qu’il m’a prêtées
je les garde serrées dans ma salle aux trésors
tout près du cœur
et je les sers d’autant plus fort

Josef Krofta passed away. We have lost the great artist and a very good friend. Josef Krofta
pointed out the new way of understanding of the theatre art, seeing it as a poetic instrument to
comment and to improve the world. In his work he was always ready to share his talent with
other people, especially the young ones. He influenced the world theatre with his
extraordinary poetic talent and with his teaching all over the world. Our loss is enormous. We
shall keep him in our hearts and transfer his achievements to the coming generation.
Dear Josef, you will be always with us. Thank you.

I am writing with profound sadness to let you know that the world theatre artist, pedagogue,
and dear friend Josef Krofta drew the curtain. Josef brought a new approach to puppetry as a
theatre of metaphor, and marked generations of puppeteers and spectators with his thinking,
creativity, and love.

Yes I got the sad news this morning on Face Book, he was a great artist ,
it is a great loss that people with such talent , knowledge, backgrounds and histories are

Chers amis,
C’est une très triste nouvelle: je me souviens de notre rencontre dans son théâtre et de sa
satisfaction d’être désormais entouré d’une nouvelle génération…Il a été un très grand
pédagogue, un passeur dans le vrai sens du terme doublé d’un artiste exceptionnel.
Je sais que la télévision tchèque a réalisé un film sur lui, il y a deux ans (l’équipe de
tournage était venue interviewer Margareta Niculescu et le réalisateur était passé par le
Centre de documentation), qui est certainement un témoignage intéressant sur son parcours.
J’ai une pensée pour sa famille et ses collaborateurs, un maître nous a quittés

His works and mentorship were so important to so many of us. His influence is a sort
of cultural DNA that lives on all who knew him or saw his productions, or studied
under him. And so in some measure he will live in us, in our work, and in our
students.

C'est avec une grande tristesse que j'apprends le décès de Joseph Krofta.
Il a été un maître, un inspirateur, un artiste et un pédagogue exemplaire pour
