DUEF are open to anyone over 18 holding a diploma or a title equivalent to the French Baccalauréat
(French high school diploma).
Beware! University pre-admission certificate sometimes necessary to obtain a long-term visa only delivered
along with a full-year DUEF registration.
French proficiency
Registered students must justify of their French proficiency (DELF/DALF, TCF, TEF) on registration or
take the on-line placement test provided by Carré International. They will be evaluated again on arrival in
Caen for a final placement in the proper level of training.
Housing
Students registered for a DUEF have the possibility to request housing with Carré International.
Beware! Housing placement depends on rooms' availability and payment delay. It is therefore not
systematic.
Housing requests must be made when pre-registering on-line for the DUEF by selecting "YES" in the "Do
you need an accommodation" section.
The office of mobility logistics of Carré International will process the request and will provide the detailed
procedure.
For any question, please contact : [email protected]
Furnished room in university residence
University residences are co-ed and reserved to students under 30. They are located on different campuses
in Caen and suburbs , and are all accessible by a direct tramway line from any of the 5 Caen campuses.
A flat-rate is applied for each semester or for the whole academic year. It varies depending on the residence
and/or the room type:
• single rooms, appr. 9 m2 with washbasin (common toilets and showers on each floor).
• single renovated rooms with washbasin, shower, toilet and wired or wireless internet.
Rooms are allocated from September 1st for SM1 and January 11th for SM2. Rates vary depending on
residences and types of room; between € 684 and € 1207 (indicative rates) for 1 semester and between €
PAGE 4 SUR 9
1,368 and € 2,415 (indicative rates) for one academic year. However, students cannot choose the place
and/or the rate at their convenience; rooms are assigned based on availability.
The current rates and detailed procedures will be communicated once the housing request has been
processed.
Beware! No early arrival possible, unless prior specific authorization by the Office of Mobility Logistics.
Furnished room with a French family
To live à la française, to fully participate to the daily life of a French family, to actively practice the French
language, we recommend this type of accommodation.
Carré international collaborates with Association Caennaise d'Accueil Universitaire (ACAU) for the
placement of students in local host families.
This homestay option is available starting €400 per month, for room and breakfast. For any question, please
contact [email protected]
Other possibilities for housing
Hotels downtown Caen, youth hostel, youth residences, apartments in a services' residence, furnished flats
through an estate agency.
Beware! Carré International does not handle reservation for those types of accommodation.
General terms of registration
Pre-registration
Courses are open to anyone over 18 holding a diploma or title equivalent to the French
"baccalauréat" (French high school diploma).
The pre-registration certificate, necessary for the visa request, will only be sent after reception of the test
resulsts and all the required documents (list provided when pre-registering on-line) and payment of the
tuition fees. Incomplete files will be rejected.
Pre-registration's documents can be sent by postal mail or by e-mail with scanned color documents. Faxed
documents will be rejected.
If the pre-registration form is given or sent at Carré International by a third party (friend, school...), the
pre-registration certificate will however be sent to the personal address of the student.
Registration
The registration is definitive only after full payment of the University registration fees.
The non-payment of those fees at the dates mentioned on the pre-registration certificate will automatically
and definitively void the pre-registration.
Payment of the fees for university registration social security (if applicable) is made on arrival in Caen,
when going through the administrative registration process. The originals of the birth certificate, diploma(s)
and French test results will be required on arrival in Caen, for the final registration. The registration will not
be processed without those original documents.
Beware! Students not present on the first day of the program will see their registration cancelled, even if
they have already paid their tuition fees.
Cancellation
Cancellation is possible in case of emergency (repatriation for health reasons or certified illness, death of a
parent...).
A refund request form is available at Carré international's secretariat or by e-mail ([email protected]
PAGE 5 SUR 9
). It needs to be returned to Carré international, fully completed, along with all the requested documents
(medical certificates, plane ticket...).
If the answer is positive, 20 % of the tuition fees' total will be charged as administrative fees, as well as the
amount corresponding to the number of courses' weeks taken by the student. Refund will be made within a
minimum of 30 days following the restitution of the student card. The University admission fees (student
card) and social security fees are non-refundable.
Cancellation for other reasons, before or during the semester, are not eligible for refunding.
The Director of Carré international reserves the right to cancel a program if the number of students is
insufficient, or to modify the weekly hours' volume.
Accommodation fees are non-refundable.
Liability
Carré International cannot be held responsible for any losses, damages or prejudices undergone by persons
or goods, except for cases where its liability is expressly provided for by French law.
In case of litigation, only French law applies.
Practical information
Information booklet
4 weeks prior to the beginning of the program, an information student handbook will be sent by e-mail to
students who will have provided us with a valid e-mail address.
Mandatory French proficiency test
To facilitate classes' and timetables' preparation, Carré International requires that students justify on
pre-registration of their French proficiency (detailed results of a TCF, TEF and test of the Alliance
Française of the current civil year, or DELF/DALF).
The French test is mandatory and must be sent along with the registration documents. It helps us make up
the classes' lists but the applications will be accepted no matter the result. Students unable to provide one of
those tests/diplomas must contact us to receive Carré International's on-line test.
First week
Students are welcomed at Carré International on the Wednesday preceeding the beginning of the courses for
a mandatory evaluation.
The following Thursday and Friday are reserved for program presentation and administrative registration of
the students.
During that time, students are provided with a specific assistance for administrative procedures (residence
permit, bank account...) and practical visit of the campus and downtown area are also organized around that
period.
2nd registration
The re-registration of a student for an additional semester or year is not systematic; it directly depends on
the grades obtained during the previous semester and on regular attendance.
A student failing due to his/her absence at the exams will not be allowed to re-register.
