As the Arabic material provides a wide and rich source for the study of vision and visuality
and as some of the main Arabic literature pertaining to optics, linguistics, topography,
philosophy, religion and the like is mentioned in the articles of this volume, the editor
abstained from including a section on Arabic writings as any such a selection would remain
too arbitrary.
