Première exposition de groupe à la galerie Jeanrochdard, Scales of the Universe, the Definition of the Frontier est une réflexion sur la porosité des frontières, qu’elles soient géographiques, organiques, relationnelles
ou spirituelles. En manipulant ce système de catégorisation, les différentes propositions des artistes contribuent à une perception globale et originale de l’univers, inspirée des principes de la cosmologie.
Il s’agit donc d’additionner deux genres pour en créer un troisième, inédit, et d’en questionner son intérêt.
Cette opération se concrétise principalement via deux axes : l’hybridation (par exemple, en confrontant et
rassemblant le végétal à l’animal, la chimie à la spiritualité) et le jeu de l’échelle (macro/micro). Peu importe
que ces nouveaux territoires soient absurdes ou pertinents, la simple démonstration de leurs existences
(puisque les évoquer revient à les rendre concrets) remet en cause le système complet du cloisonnement
par la frontière. Ainsi, en annihilant les critères de ce qui délimite, Scales of the Universe, the Definition of
the Frontier met en avant le principe de co-existence. L’univers est un tout où chaque élément, quelque
soit son mouvement, a sa place.
Diplômé de l’École des Beaux-Arts de Metz en 2003, Justin Morin a développé parallèlement à son travail
d’artiste le projet curatorial éphémère et itinérant «galerie justin morin», réflexion sur le rapport artiste/
galeriste. Scales of the Universe, the Definition of the Frontier est sa première exposition en tant que commissaire invité par la galerie Jeanrochdard.
The first group show at galerie Jeanrochdard, Scales of the Universe, the Definition of the Frontier is a reflection on the permeability of boundaries, whether they be geographic, organic, relational or spiritual. By
manipulating this system of categorisation, the artists’ various proposals contribute to a global and original
perception of the universe, inspired by principles of cosmology.
The idea is hence to take two genres to create a third one, original, and to question its interest. This operation takes concrete form mainly through 2 axes: hybridisation (for example, confronting and assembling
vegetal and mineral elements, chemistry and spirituality) and playing on scale (macro/micro). Nevermind
whether these new territories are absurd or pertinent, the demonstration of their existence alone (because
to evoke them is to make them real) puts in jeopardy the complete system of compartmentalising through
frontiers. Thus, by destroying the criteria of that separate, Scales of the Universe, the Definition of the
Frontier puts forth the principle of co-existence. The universe is a whole where each element, whatever its
movement, has its place.
Graduating from Metz School of Fine-Arts in 2003, Justin Morin has developped in parallel to his work as
an artist the itinerant and ephemeral curatorial project «galerie justin morin», a reflexion on the artist/galerist relationship. Scales of the Universe, the Definition of the Frontier is his first exhibit as guest curator
for galerie jeanroch dard.
