Announcement of the winners of
COURS ÉCRIRE TON COURT, comedy edition
Montreal, November 28, 2014 – Yesterday, the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles
(SODEC) unveiled the three winning projects of the 16th edition of COURS ÉCRIRE TON COURT,
comedy edition, at the Phi Centre in Montreal. The evening event, animated by humourist and actor
Stéphane Crête, offered the public the opportunity to hear excerpts from the finalists’ scripts. It is
significant that of the seventy-two applications received, only seven reached this final stage. The finalist
projects were, The Reunion by Pascale Bilodeau, Carl, espion modern by Sandrine BrodeurDesrosiers, Le fil from Guillaume Comtois, Ne chasse pas mes rêves! by Stéphanie Gagné, Mamie
Jacqueline by Nicolas Krief, Le bureau by Fernand-Philippe Morin-Vargas and All You Can Eat by
Joshua Selinger.
The jury, Antonello Cozollino, a producer of both short and long form films, Sophie Dupuis, an
emerging screenwriter and director, Emmanuelle Héroux, director, (Phi Films), Federico Hidalgo,
director and screenwriter (Writers Guild of Canada), Stéphane Lapointe, director and screenwriter
(SARTEC) and Marie Potvin, project manager and moderator (SODEC) had to select three winners from
the seven finalist projects.
The SODEC Grand Prize
For his bold, tragicomic quest into of the world of "extreme eating" competitions and its acid and irreverent
cinematic potential, the SODEC Grand Prize is awarded to Joshua Selinger for All You Can Eat. Valued
at $5,000.00, the Grand Prize is awarded to the best script overall. Offered by SODEC, it includes a
writing fellowship and the participation in the 2015 edition of an international film festival of his choice,
including transportation and accommodation worth $ 3,000.00. Joshua Selinger benefited from the
expertise of mentor, Brenda Keesal.
The SARTEC Prize
For the touching relationship between the two characters, caught in the mirages of the virtual world and
the richness of the story that combines situation comedy and magical realism, the SARTEC Prize was
presented to Nicolas Krief for Mamie Jacqueline. The SARTEC Prize, worth $ 1,000.00, recognizes the
quality of the best French screenplay. Nicolas Krief benefited from the expertise of mentor Barclay
Fortin.
The WGC / JIMMY LEE Prize
For its assured embrace on the "chick flick" genre and a script combining masterful dialogue, a solid
comic structure and a biting tone, the WGC / JIMMY LEE Prize is given to Pascale Bilodeau for The
Reunion. The WGC/JIMMY LEE Prize rewards the quality of the best English script and is accompanied
by an cheque of $1,000.00. Pascale Bilodeau benefited from the expertise of mentor Pat Kiely.
The jury would also like to highlight, by allocating it a special mention, the high quality and extremely finestroke screenwriting work of Guillaume Comtois on his animation project, Le fil.
The finalists of the 2014, COURS ÉCRIRE TON COURT competition benefited from the expertise and
mentorship of: Ghyslaine Côté, Barclay Fortin, Brenda Keesal, Pat Kiely, Catherine Léger, Patrick
Lowe and Louis Saia.
Stéphane Crête assured the successful reading of script excerpts supported by the actors, Jean-Carl
Boucher, Eve Gadouas, Guillermina Kerwin and Guillaume Laurin.
COURS ÉCRIRE TON COURT is organized by the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles
(SODEC), in collaboration with the Société des auteurs de radio, télévision et cinéma (SARTEC), the
Writers Guild of Canada (WGC), Jimmy Lee, Sid Lee, the Montreal Festival of New Cinema (FNC), the
Phi Centre and the law firm of Lussier & Khouzam.
COURS ÉCRIRE TON COURT is an initiative of SODEC’s Young Creators Assistance Program and is
aimed at young, emerging writers. The project manager is Marie Potvin.
