Closing event of the 2015 International Year of Soils "Healthy soil
for healthy life" - 4 December 2015, 10:00 – 17:00 hrs, Brussels
Dear Sir, Dear Madam,
You are kindly invited by the European Commission and the authorities of the regions Brussels
Capital, Flanders and Wallonia to a Conference to conclude the International Year of Soils 'Healthy
soil for healthy life" on 4 December 2015. The event will be hosted by Brussels Environment in its
new auditorium located in the site of “Tour et Taxis” in Brussels (Belgium).
The event is associated with other IYS closing events organized by the Food and Agriculture
Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. It will bring together policy makers, soil experts and
practitioners, NGOs and professional associations.
The opening session will see the participation of the Brussels Minister of the Environment, the
Director-General for Environment of the European Commission, and representatives from the office
of the Flemish Minister for Environment and from the office of the Walloon Minister of the
Environment. The first session will be dedicated to the presentation of the International and EU
policy context. The second session will focus on the Belgian context, where the three regions will
present their different landscape and soil policies. Other EU Member States will also present the
situation of soil and activities for its conservation in their own country.

2015 'Healthy soil for healthy life" - le 4 Décembre 2015. Cet évènement sera accueilli par Bruxelles
Environnement dans son nouvel auditorium situé sur le site de « Tour et Taxis » à Bruxelles
(Belgique).
L'évènement est associé avec d'autres cérémonies de clôture de l'IYS 2015 organisées par la FAO
(Food and Agriculture Organisation des Nations Unies). Il rassemblera des personnes travaillant sur
les politiques, des experts des sols et des praticiens, des ONG et des associations professionnelles.
La session d'ouverture verra la participation de la Ministre de l'Environnement de Bruxelles Capitale,
du Directeur Général de l'Environnement de la Commission Européenne, et de représentants du
cabinet de la Ministre Flamande de l'Environnement et du cabinet du Ministre Wallon de
l'Environnement. La première session sera dédiée à la présentation du contexte politique
international et européen. La seconde session se concentrera sur le contexte belge, où les trois
régions présenteront les différents paysages et politiques des sols. D'autres Etats Membres
présenteront aussi la situation des sols et les activités de conservation dans leur propre pays.

Geachte mevrouw, geachte heer,
De Europese Commissie en de overheden van het Brussels Hoofdstedelijk, het Vlaams en het Waals
Gewest nodigen u uit op de slotconferentie van het Internationaal Jaar van de Bodem - IYS 2015
“Healthy soil for healthy life” op vrijdag 4 december 2015. Dit evenement zal plaatsvinden in het
nieuwe auditorium van Leefmilieu Brussel op de Thurn & Taxis-site in Brussel.
Het evenement staat in verband met andere slotevenementen die door de Voedsel- en
Landbouworganisatie van de Verenigde Naties (FAO) worden georganiseerd. Het zal beleidsmakers,
bodemexperts en mensen van op het terrein, ngo’s en vakorganisaties bij elkaar brengen.
Aan de openingssessie nemen de minister van Leefmilieu van het Brussels Hoofdstedelijk Gewest, de
Directeur-generaal Leefmilieu van de Europese Commissie en vertegenwoordiger van het kabinet van
Vlaams minister van Omgeving en van het kabinet van en Wallonië minister van Omgeving. Tijdens
het eerste deel is er een uiteenzetting over de internationale en Europese politieke context. Tijdens
de tweede sessie zal worden ingegaan op de Belgische context, waarbij de drie Gewesten hun
verschillende landschappen en beleidslijnen zullen voorstellen. Ook andere Lidstaten zullen een
voorstelling geven van hun bodemsituatie en de acties voor bescherming.
