Justin Trudeau to publish memoir
with HarperCollinsCanada
HarperCollinsCanada announced today that Liberal Party of Canada leader Justin Trudeau will publish a
personal memoir in both English and French with HarperCollinsCanada and Les Éditions La Presse
respectively.
Mr. Trudeau’s candid memoir will reveal to its readers the experiences that have shaped him over the
course of his life and show how his passion for Canada and its people took root. Covering the years from
his childhood at 24 Sussex to his McGill days during the tumultuous time of the Charlottetown Accord to
his first campaign in Papineau to his role as Liberal leader today, the book will capture the foundational
moments that have formed the man we have come to know and informed his vision for the future of
Canada. Filled with anecdotes, personal reflections, and never-before-seen photographs from his own
collection, Mr. Trudeau’s memoir will show how the events of his life have led him to this moment and
prepared him for the future.
“It is an honour to bring Justin Trudeau’s memoir to readers across the country. As a leader, he has
inspired and connected to countless Canadians. Now we have the chance to see, through his eyes, his
formative years and experiences, which are like none other, as well as his challenges and triumphs
behind the scenes,” said Iris Tupholme, Executive VP, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of
HarperCollinsCanada.
Justin Trudeau is the twice-elected Member of Parliament for Papineau and Leader of the Liberal Party
of Canada. As a Parliamentarian, he has been Liberal Party Critic for Youth, Post-Secondary Education,
Amateur Sport, Multiculturalism, Citizenship and Immigration, and sat on the House of Commons
committees on the Environment and Sustainable Development, and Citizenship and Immigration. Prior
to his role as an elected official, Trudeau was a teacher in British Columbia and an advocate for the
environment and for youth, including four years as chair of Katimavik, Canada’s national youth service
program. Trudeau was born on December 25, 1971, the eldest son of the late former Prime Minister
Pierre Elliott Trudeau and Margaret Sinclair Trudeau Kemper. He is married to Sophie Grégoire, and
their third child, Hadrien, joined their other two children, Xavier and Ella Grace, in February 2014.
“I am pleased to have this opportunity to tell my life’s story, particularly as a teacher, Member of
Parliament, and father. These experiences and the many people who have played a role in my life have
all shaped my outlook on politics, public service, and what it means to be a Canadian,” said Justin
Trudeau. “In 2006, my family and I made a commitment to serve our country, and I look forward to
sharing this journey with you.”
All proceeds from the book will be donated to the domestic programs of the Canadian Red Cross Society
that serve local communities and people across the country that need it most.
The memoir is scheduled to publish in fall, 2014.
