Czech Film Center presents Czech Short Films 2011, Volume II Come and see the newest Czech short films! Tuesday February 8, 6:00 p.m., Georges Conchon Theater Domino / Dominoes CZ 2010 / Žofie Zajíčková / 9 min / animation Built on domino blocks, the world is split into two; what is missing in one you find in the other. Suddenly, a pear arrives in the city. Remaining absolutely idle, the pear does nothing but “sits” on a building. Trying to find out what is going on, a young man reaches a place where his world finishes and the other one – new, colourful, abundant in plants and, surprisingly, with different laws of gravitation – begins. A story about two individuals, a young man and a young woman, and their attempt to unite the split landscape and create a new, better world. Otec / Father CZ 2010 / Viktoria Dzurenková / 26 min / feature A feature film with documentary features that attempts to authentically portray a complex relationship of the father and the son. Both are Slovak and they both live in Prague – each for a different reason, though. The son studies at university, focusing on his career, while his lonely father is trying to restore their relationship that he failed to build in the past. His tragicomic attempts, however, miss the target. The film protagonists are not professional actors. They are real persons – a father and his son – who experience this drama in their real life. Graffitiger CZ 2010 / Libor Pixa / 10 min / animation A humorous and sweetly melancholic story about a lonely graffiti-tiger and his life on walls and facades of Prague houses and buildings. Full of dirty lanes and corners, the city serves as a wild jungle in which the tiger is searching for his lost love. Thrilling and humorous, the story is presented in an attractive form combining the elements of the 2D animation technology with film clips starring human actors. Lucas aneb Prokletí utopence / Lucas - Curse of the Drowned Cat CZ 2010 / Jaromír Císař / 9 min / animation A dramatic story about village cats and their struggle to save their cat fellows bewitched and kept by an evil sorcerer’s cat in the village pond. Prowling for his prey, the Drowned Cat casts a spell on the village cats and keeps them in the local pond, sleeping. Fortunately, the city cat Lucas arrives in the village. With a plan of revenge in his mind, he and other two fellow cats save the bewitched friends. The good eventually triumphs over evil and the village is full of cats again! People Involved CZ 2010 / Jan Těšitel / 26 min / feature Beginning in Brighton, the story ends in Ústí nad Labem. Emily is English, Petr is Czech. He dies and she sets off to meet his parents. Her journey is a journey for forgiveness on which the language barrier is not the only thing to overcome. Swimming Pool CZ 2010 / Alexandra Hetmerová / 7 min / animation A night love story of two outsiders set in a closed city swimming pool.
