New Resources Launched
Nouvelles ressources en vedette
Build a Tipi! (Grades 3 and 7)
In this Science Alberta Foundation resource, a young First Nations girl explains the steps involved in erecting a Cree
tipi. With the girl’s coaching, students select materials, place poles, and insert stakes leading to the completion of the
tipi.
Wetlands (Grade 5)
In this Science Alberta Foundation resource, students are provided with information about wetlands and four frog
species that may be found in Alberta sloughs. The four species are boreal chorus frog, spotted frog, northern leopard
frog, and wood frog. Students search the slough to find frogs, identify them, and create a population tally to conclude
that frog populations are decreasing and conservation action is warranted.
You Bet Your Hide! (Grade 5)
In this Science Alberta Foundation resource, a young First Nations girl learns about the steps involved in tanning a
buffalo hide. After the girl's grandfather explains the steps, students can then participate in completing the tanning
process
The Case of the Kidnapped Cat (Grade 6)
In this Science Alberta Foundation resource, a written note with a fingerprint starts the search for a missing cat. The
resource provides explanations of direct and latent fingerprints, and students learn how to recognize four types of
fingerprint patterns: arches, composites, loops, and whorls. Using this information and a file of suspects’ fingerprints,
students analyze fingerprint evidence and identify the person who took the cat.
The Tree Game (Grades 6 and 7)
In this Science Alberta Foundation resource, students learn to use tree rings as a tool for interpreting the life history
of a tree. Growth factors such as fire, drought, insect infestation, competition, and slope are investigated.
Chemistry 20 (Grade 11)
Chemistry 20 addresses numerous topics from the senior high school chemistry curriculum such as The Diversity of
Matter and Chemical Bonding; Forms of Matter: Gases; Matter as Solutions, Acids and Bases; and Quantitative
Relationships in Chemical Changes. The resource presents videos from The World of Chemistry video series and
interactive Gizmos licensed from ExploreLearning. It also includes several videos featuring chemistry experiments
and laboratory demonstrations that are supplemented with lessons and extension activities.

Physics 20 (Grade 11)
Physics 20 addresses numerous topics from the senior high school physics curriculum such as Kinematics;
Dynamics; Circular Motion, Work, and Energy; and Oscillatory Motion and Mechanical Waves. The resource
presents interactive Gizmos licensed from ExploreLearning and interactive applets that simulate a wide range of
physics experiments. It also includes videos from the following two series: The Mechanical Universe and The
Mechanical Universe...and Beyond.

Chemistry 30 (Grade 12)
Chemistry 30 addresses numerous topics from the senior high school chemistry curriculum such as Thermochemical
Changes; Electrochemical Changes; and Equilibrium, Acids and Bases in Chemical Changes. The resource
presents videos from The World of Chemistry video series and interactive Gizmos licensed from ExploreLearning. It
also includes several videos featuring chemistry experiments and laboratory demonstrations that are supplemented
with lessons and extension activities.

chimiques.
