1998, The start of an
adventure. After a quarter of a century
the making of museum
exhibitions has come to an
end.
Gallery In Vorm, in the heart
of Dordrecht, opens its doors. Seven years and 27 exhibitions
later, besides some small
projects, the gallery closes its
doors to move to Belgium, entering a new adventure.

In October 2008 the gallery
reopens in Stevoort, Hasselt
with the intention to participate
in shaping the visual arts in the
EU region. Contacts with artists
and organizations are made in
Liège and Maastricht. Right in this construction phase,
the gallery is damaged by a
whirlwind.
Later there is the big storm that
has also struck the Pukkelpop
Festival.
Both storms have caused so much
damage that the gallery had to
suspend its activities. Distillery ’t Stookkot, also hit by
the storm, is looking for a new
location in the Hasselt area.
The reason is to be able to
obtain the predicate of the
original ‘Hasselt Gin’. So she
finds shelter in a part of the
quadrangle farm.
De Smaakmakers bvba is
founded.
The roof is renewed, the
damage repaired and the
spaces rearranged.

DISTILLERIE ‘tSTOOKKOT is
open every second Sunday of
the month from 14.00 until
18.00 hours.
The gallery reopens, the yoga
classes are resumed and the b&b
restarted.
It appears to be more difficult
than expected.
The continuity has gone. It is not
easy to restart from zero, plus
the spirit of the times doesn’t
help.
After six major exhibitions it is
clear that the gallery doesn’t
have a future.
The book of this adventure is
closed.
DE SMAAKMAKERS continues to
provide a unique framework to
organize all kinds of activities: a
course, an incentive, a social
gathering, reception or seminar,
an exhibition, meeting or
performance.

at times anxious, sometimes with
amazement.

genuine, old Hasselt Gin
traditional recipe, the 'vieux

cocoa gin, not to forget the
‘eaux de vie’ from the apple
and pear!
The farm is also easily
accessible: just 6 km from the
A13-E313 (exit 27 Herk-deStad).
From the A2-E314 (exit 25
Halen) it is 14 km. From Hasselt
central station only 7 km; from
Sint-Truiden central station a
small 13 km.
The bus stops at the door. Line 5, the fast service HasseltSt.-Truiden.
But, the contact with you as art
lovers or 'accidental' visitors have
always been my driving force
behind this attitude. Also, your
questions and comments have
broadened my horizon as well,
for which I want to thank you.
