The work I do is an investigation of time and space, memory and displacement. I am interested in
experimenting with new materials and multimedia techniques, combining found objects, diverse printing
techniques, light, and sculpture. I work on installation as a way of appropriating the space. As an artist of
Latin American origin who changed places, the work I do is accented by the search for a place, be it real
or imaginary, mental or physical. Travels are journeys of exploration, discovery, and new beginnings.
Although intimate and personal in origin, my work goes beyond my particular experience to mirror a
reality common to many people in this age of migration exile and continuos change.
Mon travail est une investigation du temps et de l’espace, de la mémoire et du déplacement. Je m’intéresse
à l’expérimentation de nouveaux matériaux et de techniques multimédias, et je conjugue des objets trouvés,
diverses techniques de gravure, la lumière et la sculpture. L’élaboration de mes installations vise
l’appropriation de l’espace. En tant qu’artiste d’origine latino-américaine qui s’est déplacée, mon travail est
marqué par la recherche d’un lieu, qu’il soit réel ou imaginaire, mental ou physique. Quoique intime et
personnel au départ, mon travail dépasse mon expérience particulière pour refléter une réalité commune à
bien des gens dans cette ère de migration, d’exil et deplacements constants.
Mi trabajo es una investigación de conceptos de tiempo y espacio; memoria y desplazamiento.
Experimento con nuevos materiales y técnicas de multimedia, combinando objetos encontrados, diversas
técnicas de grabado, luz y escultura. Mi orígen Latinoamericano, y el cambio de lugares, acentúa en mi
trabajo esa experiencia por la búsqueda de un lugar, real o imaginario; sea este mental o físico. Mi obra
íntima y personal en orígen, va más allá de mi experiencia particular para reflejar la imágen de una realidad
común para muchos en esta época de migración, exilio y movimiento continuo.

Born in Santiago, Chile, Amelia Jiménez studied education and fine arts at the Catholic University of Chile.
In 1977, she moved to Canada and studied at the Ontario College of Art and at Studio Camnitzer in Italy.
In 1984 and 1985, she was invited to Bogota, Colombia, as an artist-in-residence at Arte Dos Grafico, a
printmaking studio. Her works have been shown in Chile, Canada, Germany, Ecuador, Colombia, Puerto
Rico, and Mexico. Jiménez has been involved with artist-run centres since 1989, and has curated exhibitions
of emerging Latin American artists for various galleries and at Harbourfront Centre in Toronto.
Née à Santiago du Chili, Amelia Jiménez étudie l’éducation et les beaux-arts à l’Université catholique du Chili.
En 1977, elle se rend au Canada et etudie au Collège des beaux-arts de l’Ontario et ensuite en Italie au Studio
Camnitzer. En 1984 et 1985, elle est invitée à Bogota en Colombie comme artiste en résidence à Arte Dos
Grafico, un atelier de gravure. Elle a présenté ses œuvres au Chili, au Canada, en Allemagne, en Équateur, en
Colombie, à Puerto Rico et au Mexique. Jiménez participe à des centres d’artistes depuis 1989 et a organisé des
expositions d’artistes latino-américains émergents pour diverses galeries et au Harbourfront Centre de Toronto.
Amelia Jiménez, nació en Santiago de Chile. Egresó de la Universidad Católica de Chile en Bellas Artes
con mención en grabado. Actualmente radica en Canadá, donde estudió en el Ontario College of Art, en
Toronto. Amelia, realizó residencias en el Studio Camnitzer, Lucca, Italia; y en el taller Arte Dos Gráfico,
Colombia. Al regresar a Canadá, inició su trabajo en forma multimedia, incorporando fotografía y
escultura en sus instalaciones. Jiménez, ha expuesto en Chile, Canada, Alemania, Ecuador, Colombia,
Puerto Rico, Mexico y Serbia. Ha sido miembro activo de centros de arte contemporaneo, organizando
exposiciones en distintas galerias y para Harbourfront Centre en Toronto. Amelia ha obtenido diversos
premios, y algunas de sus obras forman parte de importantes colecciones privadas.
