Happy Canada Day 2015!
2015 is a big year for Canada:
it is the 50th anniversary of our
National Flag, a particularly
significant milestone as we
prepare for the 150th anniversary
of Confederation in 2017. It is
also the Year of Sport in Canada:
I’m sure you’ve all been closely
following the FIFA Women’s World
Cup, which is being played across
Canada from coast to coast. And
don’t forget the Toronto 2015 Pan and Parapan American Games,
which will begin in just a few weeks.
In addition to celebrating flags
and sports, we also continue to
celebrate our valued CanadaItaly relationship. In early
June, Prime Minister Harper
was here in Italy to meet
with Prime Minister Renzi on
crucial matters of international
security and strengthening
trade relations, through the
Comprehensive Economic and
Trade Agreement (CETA). He
also took the opportunity to
meet with His Holiness Pope
Francis, a testament to our
important relationship with the
Holy See as well.

There is so much to celebrate this year. And, as always, we would like
to thank you - Canadians who have made Italy your home and friends
of Canada here in Italy – for making this relationship, and our work
here in Italy, so positive. A very Happy Canada Day to you all.
----------------Chers Canadiens et amis du Canada,
2015 est une année importante pour le Canada : Nous célébrons le
50e anniversaire de notre drapeau national, un jalon important en
vue des préparatifs du 150e anniversaire de la Confédération que
nous fêterons en 2017. 2015 est aussi l’année du sport au Canada : je
suis sûr que vous avez tous suivi la Coupe du Monde féminine de la
FIFA, qui s’est jouée de part et d’autre du Canada, sans oublier les
Jeux pan et para panaméricains de 2015,qui commencerons dans
quelques semaines seulement à Toronto.
Nous continuons de fêter aussi, outre notre drapeau national et le
sport, nos précieuses relations Canada-Italie. Début juin, le Premier
Ministre Harper s’est rendu en Italie pour rencontrer le Premier
Ministre Renzi et aborder des questions cruciales de sûreté
internationale ainsi que pour renforcer nos relations commerciales,
notamment par le biais de l’Accorde économique et commercial
global (AECG).Le voyage a également été une occasion pour
rencontrer Sa Sainteté le Pape François, autre témoignage de nos
importantes relations avec le Saint-Siège.
Il y a tant à célébrer cette année. Et comme toujours nous désirons
vous remercier - vous , canadiens qui avez fait de l’Italie votre maison
et vous, amis du Canada ici en Italie –de rendre cette relation et notre
travail ici en Italie, si constructif. Joyeuse Fête du Canada à vous tous.
