MARK HACHEM GALLERY Youri Born in 1972. EN Born in 1972, Youri comes from the North of France, a region that seduces several artists. He attended the Saint-­Luc Institute in Tounai (Belgium), where he studied art teaching and met famous artists. He later attended architecture and design classes, and started his first subject : the Nude theme. After travelling across Northern Africa, Youri began to focus on basic materials, such as sand, which proved to be a very successful and impressive medium, arising the viewer's urge to approach his paintings. In 2000 he travelled to New York, where he concentrated on verticality and asymmetries that were in sharp contrast with his more subtle work on the female body. Youri accumulates material and paint on the canvas, he brush it and scratch it in order to grasp the original matter. This system of overlapping allows him to reproduce new effects of light and color. His work is centered around four main themes: eroticism, travelling, literature and architecture. FR Né en 1972 dans le Nord de la France, Youri étudie à l’Institut Saint-­Luc à Tournai et travaille en Belgique. Après quelques années passées dans un cabinet d’architecture et poussé par de nombreux amateurs d’art, il arrête son activité professionnelle afin de se consacrer totalement à son art. Naît alors son premier thème : les nus. Il aime faire ressortir les courbes, les rondeurs, la sensualité, les formes et les ombres qui émanent des figures féminines. Suite à son séjour en Afrique du Nord, Youri s’intéresse aux matériaux basiques, comme le sable. La matière est omniprésente et accentue la profondeur du tableau, donnant envie de toucher la toile. Le temps et l’expérience professionnelle lui permettent d’approfondir sa créativité, favorisant l’émergence d’un nouveau thème orienté vers la composition. Il met en scène des éléments d’intérieur et plus particulièrement les bibliothèques. En l’an 2000, suite à son voyage à New York, il introduit dans ses toiles la verticalité et les asymétries de l’architecture qui contrastent avec son travail, plus souple du corps de la femme. La suite logique de ses travaux l’a amené à approfondir sa technique, créant des « accidents » qui le dont évoluer. La matière est superposée puis grattée favorisant le motif et l’effet de matière sur la toile. Son travail se concentre principalement sur 4 thèmes principaux : l’érotisme, le voyage, la littérature et l’architecture.
