Toujours acheter la dernière édition disponible. Renouveler tous les dix ans environ, car une langue évolue. Les deux plus célèbres (noms communs et noms propres) sont : o « le Jones » (Daniel Jones, Cambridge University Press) o « le Wells » (John C. Wells, Longman Pronunciation DIctionary). 2) Savoir lire les transcriptions phonétiques est également indispensable pour tout angliciste, même si certains sites Internet permettent d’entendre les mots recherchés (fichiers son). o Rappel, sous forme de tableau, de tous les signes phonétiques pour l’anglais (et le français) : http://www.wordreference.com/fr/French-Pronunciation.aspx o Un site comme www.wordreference.com donne au tout début la transcription phonétique de tout mot trouvé. Un simple copier-coller vous permet d’importer cette transcription dans un document Word (pour vous ou vos élèves). o Pour les noms propres (que WordReference ne mentionne généralement pas), on peut trouver son bonheur sur le site : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_names_in_English_with_counterintuitive_pronunciations 3) Lire les rapports de jury des concours d’enseignement sur la qualité de l’anglais parlé au concours. Suivant les années, ces rapports incluent remarques, conseils, listes de mots mal prononcés, etc. Voir ici. Ne pas mélanger be afraid of birds, be scared of heights, be frightened of snakes (= peur constante que l’on peut avoir) et be scared by the sound of an explosion, be frightened by / at someone’s sudden appearance (= peur passagère liée à un événement en particulier).
