Jennifer Still has had her poetry widely
published in journals and anthologies
across Canada. Her latest collection,
Girlwood, won the 2008 John V.
Hicks manuscript award and poems
from the collection were finalists in
the 2008 CBC Literary awards. She
has participated in the 2011 Thin Air
Festival in Winnipeg and the Ottawa
International Writer’s Festival and
has been invited to read at the 2012
Saskatchewan International Writer’s
Festival. Jennifer lives in Winnipeg
with her husband and two children.

La poésie de Jennifer Still a été publiée
dans des revues et des anthologies par
tout au Canada. Son dernier recueil,
Girlwood, a remporté le prix John V.
Hicks du meilleur manuscrit en 2008
et des poèmes du recueil ont été
finalistes aux CBC Literary Awards de
2008. Elle a participé au festival Thin
Air de 2011 à Winnipeg et à l’Ottawa
International Writers Festival. Elle a
été invitée à présenter ses œuvres au
Saskatchewan Festival of Words de
2012. Jennifer vit à Winnipeg avec son
conjoint et deux enfants.
RESIDENCY PROJECT
DESCRIPTION DU PROJET
Jennifer’s third collection of poetry,
Os (Latin for “mouth” or “opening”),
considers states of speechlessness as it
relates to a loved one’s recovery from
illness. Using the “floating” hyoid bone
or os hyoideum as a central figure,
(the only bone in the human throat),
Jennifer faces the precarious portals
of speech: how the ability to name,
to question, to voice, both forms and
transforms who we are, from the
larynx to the lyrical, from our diseases
to our disclosures.
Le troisième recueil de poèmes de
Jennifer, Os (« bouche » ou « ouverture »
en latin), examine les états d’aphasie
en lien avec le rétablissement d’un
être aimé après la maladie. Utilisant
l’os hyoïde « flottant » (os hyoideum),
le seul os présent dans la gorge
humaine, comme élément central,
Jennifer aborde les portails précaires
de la parole : comment la capacité de
nommer, de questionner et d’exprimer
forme et transforme qui nous sommes,
du larynx au lyrique, de nos maladies à
nos divulgations.
