About us
À propos du Centre
Established in 1989, the Canadian HIV/AIDS Information
Centre is the largest information centre on HIV/AIDS in
Canada. The Information Centre is a program of the
Canadian Public Health Association. Our mandate is to
provide information on HIV prevention, care, and
treatment to community-based organizations, health and
education professionals, resource centres and others with
HIV and AIDS information needs in Canada. At the
Information Centre, our focus is to support Canadian
activities in the area of HIV prevention.
Créé en 1989, le Centre canadien d’information sur le
VIH/sida est le plus grand centre d’informations sur le
VIH/sida au Canada. Le Centre d’information fait partie
des programmes de l’Association canadienne de santé
publique. Il a pour mandat de fournir de l’information sur
la prévention du VIH, les soins et le traitement, aux
organismes communautaires, aux professionnels de la
santé et de l’éducation, aux centres de documentation et

videos/DVDs to Canadian organizations only.

AIDS service organization to make an interlibrary loan
on their behalf.

stand. The companion guide answers many basic questions young
people may have about HIV and AIDS, and suggests workshop
activities that will promote discussion and understanding.

This documentary gives a short history of the development of blood
transfusion focusing on the work done by the Canadian Red Cross
during the Second World War. What follows is an examination of
what went wrong with the blood system in Canada in the early
1980’s and into the 90’s when thousands of Canadians were
infected with HIV and hepatitis C through tainted blood. The
documentary suggests that officials were aware of testing
precautions that could have prevented the spread of these diseases
as early as 1981. The director examines how politics and budgets
affected the decision-making process.

mental health issues like anxiety, grief over the loss of family
members, attachment and adjustment disorders; and disclosing
HIV status to the infected child, family, friends and community. The

This video tells the story of a seventy-five-year-old British Columbia
woman who has AIDS. At 62, after her husband died, June went to
work as a mission volunteer for the Anglican Church in an isolated
town in Tanzania. She worked there several years until she had to
return to Canada because she was very ill. It took some time before
the doctors tested her for AIDS because she did not fit the
stereotype. She worked with several AIDS service organizations in
Victoria until she decided to return back to Tanzania, where she
visited several city and rural AIDS groups. She has told many people
in Tanzania about her condition to help them try to accept AIDS as
a disease like any other rather than a social stigma.
