The world is his oyster. As the host of CTV’s IN
FASHION Glen Baxter has shared with us 10 exciting
years of the best in fashion, design and photography.
Canadian Hairdresser catches up with the Montréal
native to chat about his adventures in fashion, his
love of photography and his dedication to make sure
children around the world have the “Right To Play”.

de ses aventures dans le monde de la mode, de son amour de la
photographie et de son dévouement pour s’assurer que les enfants
du monde entier aient le « droit de jouer ».
IN FASHION is celebrating 10 years on the air –
congratulations! Is there one collection or show
that has stood out to you from this past decade?
It would be Dolce & Gabbana’s 20th anniversary
Spring/Summer 2011 menswear presentation in Milan.

Félicitations! Y a-t-il une collection ou un spectacle qui a su se
démarquer à vos yeux au cours de la dernière décennie?
Ce serait la présentation soulignant le 20e anniversaire de la
collection masculine printemps/été 2011 de Dolce & Gabbana,

performed live throughout the show, at her
grand piano on the runway. The finale
included 45 male models flooding the
catwalk all at once, wearing variations of
black tie.
Your adventures have been fabulous, but
no doubt exhausting! What health regimens
have you depended on to keep yourself
fresh for the camera?
I just try to get as much sleep as possible.
Double espressos and the occasional Red
Bull also help me to be sharp in front of
the camera!
Your travels brought to life another deep
passion of yours – photography. Tell us
about how you discovered this other facet
of your life.
My interest in photography is a direct result
of over 20 years of backpacking around the
world. After graduating from Ryerson
University, I went on a 12-month backpacking
trip around the Mediterranean, from London
to Cairo. While many people have done
this and gotten it out of their system, I’ve
never stopped.
You have done a great deal of work with
Right To Play. Tell us about your partnership
with this renowned humanitarian organization.
I am very proud of Right To Play and the
work they are doing around the world and
here in Canada, improving the lives of children through game sport and play. I have
seen this implemented first hand in Benin,
Ethiopia, Azerbaijan and in Sandy Lake, a
fly-in First Nations community in Northern
Ontario. Right To Play is Canada’s fastest
growing international humanitarian organization. I am working on my latest photo
exhibition with Hugo Boss to be held in
May, with photos I took last month in
Mozambique to raise money for Right To
Play. I also founded the Right To Play Party,
which I hope will eventually be a yearly
highlight on Toronto’s social calendar. The
inaugural benet bash is scheduled for
February 23rd at the Thompson Hotel’s
penthouse floor, with Keith Richards’
daughter, model Alexandra Richards, DJing.

première rangée aux côtés de Matthew McConaughey. Annie Lennox, assise à
son piano à queue, a chanté en direct tout au long de la soirée. La finale mettait
en scène 45 mannequins masculins qui ont pris d’assaut, en une seule vague,
le podium de mode en portant différentes variations de cravates noires.
Vous avez vécu des aventures fabuleuses, mais sans doute épuisantes! À quel
régime de vie vous astreignez-vous pour avoir le teint frais devant la caméra?
J’essaie simplement de dormir le plus possible. À l’occasion, des espressos
doubles et des Red Bull m’ont également permis d’avoir l’air frais et dispos
devant la caméra!
Vos voyages vous ont fait découvrir une autre de vos grandes passions : la
photographie. Racontez-nous comment vous avez découvert cette autre
facette de votre vie.
Mon intérêt pour la photographie est le fruit d’un périple autour du monde
qui dure depuis plus de 20 ans. Après avoir reçu mon diplôme de l’université
Ryerson, j’ai pris mon sac à dos et je suis parti en voyage pendant 12 mois
autour de la Méditerranée, de Londres jusqu’au Caire. Alors que beaucoup
de gens font de même et passent à autre chose, moi, je n’ai jamais arrêté.
Vous œuvrez de façon remarquable auprès de Right To Play. Parlez-nous de
votre partenariat avec cet organisme humanitaire renommé.
Je suis très fier de Right To Play et du travail qu’ils font dans le monde et ici,
au Canada, pour améliorer la vie des enfants au moyen du sport et du jeu. Je
les ai d’abord vus œuvrer au Bénin, en Éthiopie, en Azerbaïdjan et à Sandy Lake,
une communauté des Premières nations du Nord de l’Ontario accessible par
avion seulement. Right To Play est l’organisme humanitaire international
ayant la croissance la plus rapide au Canada. Je travaille sur mon exposition
de photos avec Hugo Boss qui se tiendra en mai; des photos prises le mois
dernier au Mozambique pour amasser des fonds pour Right To Play en font
partie. J’ai également mis sur pied le Right To Play Party qui deviendra
chaque année, je l’espère, un événement marquant inscrit à l’agenda social de
Toronto. Le spectacle-bénéfice inaugural se tiendra le 23 février au penthouse
de l’hôtel Thompson; la musique sera entre les mains de la fille de Keith
Richards, la DJ et mannequin Alexandra Richards.
