NEWSLETTER #03 LUNDI 25 JANVIER 2016 MONDAY, JANUARY 25TH 2016 CRÉATION: LE STORYTELLING CREATION: STORYTELLING Raconte-moi une histoire … Tell me a story … Now a veritable guiding theme, wholeheartedly adopted by brands, whether in the ready-to-wear, sports or intimates sectors, storytelling has permeated the fashion market at all different levels. Reaching beyond simply developing product ranges, “stories” are present in merchandising, marketing and communication. The new trends highlighted on the Forum reflect this clear reluctance to seek refuge in minimalism. Brands want to show themselves: they are freeing products from seasonal constraints and relying on the versatility of new hybrid products. Younger lingerie brands, such as For Love and Lemons, Gooseberry, Love Stories and Skin represent this new generation of brands which understand the impact of stories on consumers’ purchasing behaviour and the need to accompany them throughout the day. There’s no room for compromise when it comes to attracting clients: surprising visual effects, expertise in functional properties and high-quality digital prints are all showcased on the Forum. That’s this year’s good news for the French intimates market. According to IFM figures, 15-24 year-olds spent an average of €188 on intimates in 2015. Proof that creative efforts made by brands have paid off. While teenagers’ budgets have increased by 30%, those in the next category up (aged 2534) have also demonstrated an impressive 20% rise to €163. Higher spending was also observed from 35-44 year-olds. ‘Young seniors’ was the only category where spending stalled: the over 45s only spent around one hundred euros, i.e. €20 less than last year. In total, spending in all different sectors of the intimates market (lingerie, nightwear, shapewear and homewear) has reached €2.8 billion (up 1.7% in comparison to 2014). The hosiery market was penalized by mild weather in the autumn, however. Jungle Fever Créativité doit rimer avec identité ! Creativity and identity go hand in hand! “Creativity should not mean pouring out new products for the sake of it. People find it overwhelming. By producing “disposable” products, which are totally incompatible with sustainable development, we’re encouraging customers to be increasingly fickle. Brands need to use their know-how to reposition themselves and rethink comfort and fit. It would be a serious mistake to get customers into the habit of being entirely price-focused. It’s up to us, the producers, to rediscover our identities. We need to win back customer-loyalty by offering them the genuine signature of a creative company and stop trying to impress them with a wave of new products. I think all we need to do is offer them pleasure and happiness, ensure that they smile when discovering our collections. C M J CM MJ CJ CMJ N The next edition of Interfilière and Mode City on 9, 10 and 11 July 2016 will be held in Lyon. “We’re happy to be going back to Lyon and the Eurexpo venue, where the shows will be set up in two bright, new halls. It’s almost like going back to our roots! Eurovet actually decided to relocate because of the sports events which are being held in Paris on those dates,” explained Marie-Laure Bellon, Eurovet’s CEO, during the press conference. The sports influence will be accompanying us to Lyon though, with activewear placed in the spotlight and omnipresent at Interfilière and Mode City. Against a backdrop evoking aspects of an athletics stadium, with race lanes traced onto the ground and a very sporty design, Interfilière’s Innovation forum will give centre stage to sports such as running, cycling, fitness and yoga. Not to be left on the side-line, water-sports will reinforce the show’s beachwear range. One-of-a-kind jacquards New technologies offer a wealth of opportunities for jacquards. The most unlikely textile creations can be translated into a form of expression. Young designers, working with the most cuttingedge yarns on a daily basis, have the greatest respect for a loom that, despite having been around for over two centuries, still enables them to create avant-garde jacquards. Florence Bost succeeded in running a sound over the surface of a fabric using a Jacquard machine, which enabled her to integrate miniaturized speakers into the panel’s leaf motifs. The innovation earned her Japan’s prestigious Villa Kujoyama prize. Created on a jacquard loom, this acoustic panel was woven using threads of cotton, wool and polyester to create a textured weave, which effectively absorbs soundwaves. Aleksandra has mastered the art of 3D structures and won various prizes for her creations. This Belgian designer enjoys working with metallic yarns and combining them with synthetic fibres. Created using synthetic horsehair (nylon) and varnished copper, the reversible jacquard toys with the light, reflecting and diffusing it. The futuristic jacquard weave features intentionally translucent areas. Technology at its most innovative propels stretch knits to a superior level of colour quality: Deep By Ripa is a new line of high-performance knits, developed using Roica™ Colour Perfect elastane, which offers excellent dyeability and colour strength, thanks to a new dyeing process: OneTone™ by Erca. The result is amazingly uniform: colours are deep, bright and refined, the elastane yarn remains invisible, with no white or grey ‘grin-through’ when stretched. Developed by Maglificio Ripa with Huit as a sneak preview for winter 16/17, a range of 18 articles in blends of viscose, cotton, wool, polyamide and silk has received a very warm welcome at the show. “Our clients are really surprised by the colour depth. And frankly impressed by the variety of different shades,” explains Fabio Cescon, Sales Manager for Maglificio Ripa. TENDANCES : UNE COLLECTION AU CRIBLE TRENDS: EXPLORING A COLLECTION Piave Maitex, Créateur de l’année 2015, développe une collection riche d’effets et de nouveautés pour le printemps 2017 avec pour les unis des matières nouvelles : Designer of the Year 2015, Piave Maitex has developed a collection with a rich variety of effects and innovations for spring 2017, including new materials for plain fabrics: Mesh Decoration Tissus utilisant les dernières technologies dans une série de déclinaisons tout en contrastes et transparences pour toutes sortes d’applications possibles (vêtements structurés, inserts décoratifs, ou en association de matières pour des effets étonnants). The latest technologies are used to create a series of different fabrics, toying with contrasts and transparent effects for a wide variety of enduses (structured clothing, decorative inserts or combining different materials for surprising effects). Light and soft jacquard fabrics, designed to offer optimal comfort (microfibres, stretch properties) with floral motifs inspired by interior decorating, a “progressive” version of vintage and Art Nouveau, with contrasting colours, matte/shiny interplay and surface effects. Innovative, functional and high-performance fabrics with 3D effects, for a reassuring effect and a generous hand-feel with a graphic inspiration and a folk atmosphere in a “handmade” spirit. On the prints side, a number of strong themes stand out, such as Decoration (an almost fragile atmosphere, like leaf veins, butterfly wings, transparent petals) for sophisticated and surprising embroidery and lace effects; Exploring (taking inspiration from travel for new and original leather effects in warm colours or handcrafted objects, as well as effects inspired by “Body Art”). Soft is a very intimate atmosphere, bordering on meditation, with soft shades, transparent effects and dévorés. Far more vibrant and dynamic, Skin Art toys with light in solid shades reminiscent of stained-glass or black embroidery against pale colours.
