KAL002 Russian traders brought this attractive Siberian heirloom kale to Canada in the early 19th century. Red and purple leaves change to green after cooking. It is good as an uncooked salad green when very young and excellent when cooked. KAL003 Light green-blue ruffled leaves. Excellent for raw salad use. TBE002 Originally from Italy, this tomato is shaped like a very large strawberry. It is genetically linked to wild Mexican tomatoes, from the state of Hidalgo. It is a tall, rangy plant, the yield isn't very high, and the fruit tends to be soft, but by golly what an amazing taste. 60 days to maturity. Indeterminate. Of Siberian origin, the Black Prince plant is cold-tolerant, and produces very tasty fruit. Fruits are 8 oz, smooth-skinned and slightly elongated. TNR004 A true jet black colour ! TNR005 Named after the black American opera singer who was an advocate for equal rights for blacks. Paul Robeson was greatly respected in the former Soviet Union. The variety actually originated from a vegetable seed firm in Siberia. It is a smallish round tomato with shining dark purple skin. It is quite cold and wet tolerant and is able to set fruit at lower temperatures than many tomatoes. Its unique smoky flavour has put it at the top of tomato taste tests around the world. TPR001 This is perhaps my favourite tomato for flavour and many Ferme du Zéphyr clients have raved about the Cherokee Purple's distinct and rich flavour. Don't be put off by the sometimes misshapen fruits, or by the cracks and fissures that can appear on the skin, especially during hot summers.
