Die Lorelei
Ich weiß nicht, was soll es bedeuten
Daß ich so traurig bin;
in Märchen aus alten Zeiten
Das kommt mir nicht aus dem Sinn. The Lorelei
I'm looking in vain for the reasons
That I am so sad and distressed;
A tale known for many a season
Will not allow me to rest. Die Luft ist kühl und es dunkelt,
Und ruhig fließt der Rhein;
Der Gipfel des Berges funkelt
Im Abendsonnenschein. Cool is the air in the twilight
And quietly flows the Rhine;
The mountain top glows with a highlight
From the evening sun's last shine. Die schönste Jungfrau sitzet
Dort oben wunderbar,
Ihr goldnes Geschmeide blitzet
Sie kämmt ihr goldenes Haar. The fairest of maiden's reposing
So wonderously up there.
Her golden treasure disclosing;
She's combing her golden hair. Sie kämmt es mit goldenem
Kamme Und singt ein Lied dabei;
Das hat eine wundersame
Gewaltige Melodei. She combs it with comb of gold
And meanwhile sings a song
With melody strangely bold
And overpoweringly strong. Den Schiffer im kleinen
Schiffe ergreift es mit wildem
Weh, Er schaut nicht die Felsenriffe,
Er schaut nur hinauf in die Höh. The boatman in his small craft
Is seized with longings, and sighs.
He sees not the rocks fore and aft;
He looks only up towards the skies. Ich glaube, die Wellen verschlingen
Am Ende Schiffer und Kahn;
Und das hat mit ihrem Singen
Die Lorelei getan.
I fear that the waves shall be flinging
Both vessel and man to their end;
That must have been what with her
singing
The Lorelei did intend.
Oh while I sleep
Oh while I sleep, come and stand by my
bed
as Laura came to Petrarch where he lay.
Et qu'en passant ton haleine me
touche. Soudain ma bouche S'entrouvrira! And let your breath hover over my head
Sur mon front morne où peut-être
s'achève
Un songe noir qui trop longtemps dura,
And on my brow in the menacing
darkness where
nightmares come and all too often stay
pour down
your gaze like a shower of starlight Que ton regard comme un astre se
lève... Soudain mon rêve Rayonnera
Puis sur ma lèvre où voltige une
My pain will settle and drain away! My heart will waken.
My dream will waken. Then place a kiss both angelic and
flamme,
Éclair d'amour que Dieu même épura,
Pose un baiser, et d'ange deviens
femme Soudain mon âme S'éveillera! human
on my two lips where love again may
stir to flame.
Yes, kiss me and turn from angel into
woman
My soul will leap through from night into day!
O lieb, solang du lieben kannst!
O lieb, solang du lieben kannst!
O lieb, so lang du lieben magst!
Die Stunde kommt, die Stunde kommt,
Wo du an Gräbern stehst und klagst. O love, love as long as you can
O love, love as long as you can!
O love, love as long as you will!
The time will come, the time will come,
When you will stand grieving at the
grave. Und sorge, daß dein Herze glüht
Und Liebe hegt und Liebe trägt,
So lang ihm noch ein ander Herz
In Liebe warm entgegenschlägt. And let it be that your heart glows
And nurtures and carries love,
As long as another heart is still
Warmly bestruck by love for you! Und wer dir seine Brust erschließt,
O tu ihm, was du kannst, zulieb!
Und mach ihm jede Stunde froh,
Und mach ihm keine Stunde trüb. And to one who spills his breast to you,
O to him, do what you can, in Love!
And make him happy for each moment,
And never let him be sad for one! Und hüte deine Zunge wohl,
Bald ist ein böses Wort gesagt!
O Gott, es war nicht bös gemeint,
Der andre aber geht und klagt.
And guard your tongue tightly,
In case any slight escapes your mouth!
O God, it was not meant that way,
But the other recoils, hurt and sighing.
Pantomime
Pantomime
Pierrot, who is nothing like Clitandre,
empties a bottle without ado,
and, ever practical, cuts into a pâté. Cassandre, au fond de l'avenue,
Verse une larme méconnue
Sur son neveu déshérité. Ce faquin d'Arlequin combine
L'enlèvement de Colombine
Et pirouette quatre fois. Cassandre, at the end of the avenue,
sheds an concealed tear
for his disinherited nephew. That impertinent Harlequin schemes
the adbuction of Columbine
and whirls around four times.
Columbine dreams, surprised
at feeling a heart in the breeze
and at hearing voices in her heart.
Clair de lune
Votre âme est un paysage choisi
Moonlight
Your soul is a chosen landscape
Que vont charmant masques et
bergamasques,
Jouant du luth et dansant, et quasi
charmed by masquers and revellers
Tristes sous leurs déguisements
fantasques! sad beneath their fanciful disguises!
Tout en chantant sur le mode mineur
L'amour vainqueur et la vie opportune.
Ils n'ont pas l'air de croire à leur
bonheur,
lune, Even while singing, in a minor key,
of victorious love and fortunate living
they do not seem to believe in their
happiness,
and their song mingles with the
moonlight,
the calm moonlight, sad and beautiful,
which sets
the birds in the trees dreaming, and
makes the
fountains sob with ecstasy, the tall
slender
fountains among the marble statues! Qui fait rêver, les oiseaux dans les
arbres,
baiser.
Ma songerie aimant à me martyriser
S'enivrait savamment du parfum de
tristesse
Que même sans regret et sans déboire
laisse
playing the lute and dancing and almost
Pierrot
Good old Pierrot, at whom the crowd
gapes,
having concluded Harlequin's wedding,
walks along the Boulevard du Temple,
lost in thought.
A girl in a supple garment
vainly teases him with a mischievous
look;
And meanwhile, mysterious and
smooth, taking
her sweetest delight in him,
the white moon, bull-horned,
throws a furtive glance
at her friend Jean Gaspard Deburau.
Apparition
The moon was saddened. Seraphims in
tears
dreaming, bows at their fingers, in the
calm of filmy flowers
Threw dying violas of white sobs
sliding over the blue of corollas.
It was the blessed day of your first kiss;
My reverie, loving to torture me,
wisely imbibed its perfume of sadness
That even without regret and without
setback
Estrellita
Estrellita del lejano cielo,
que miras mi dolor,
que sabes mi sufrir.
Baja y dime
si me quiere un poco,
porque yo no puedo sin su amor
vivir. ¡Tu eres estrella mi faro de amor!
Tu sabes que pronto he de morir.
Baja y dime
Melodia Sentimental
Acorda, vem ver a lua
Que dorme na noite escura
Que fulge tão bela e branca
Derramando doçura
Clara chama silente
Ardendo meu sonhar
As asas da noite que surgem
E correm no espaço profundo
Oh, doce amada, desperta
Vem dar teu calor ao luar
Quisera saber-te minha
Na hora serena e calma
A sombra confia ao vento
O limite da espera
Quando dentro da noite
Reclama o teu amor
Acorda, vem olhar a lua
Que brilha na noite escura
Querida, és linda e meiga
Sentir meu amor é sonhar
leaves the gathering of a dream within
the heart that gathered it.
I wandered then, my eye riveted on the
aged cobblestones.
When, with light in your hair, in the
street
and in the evening, you appeared to me
smiling
and I thought I had seen the fairy with a
hat of light
who passed in my sweet dreams as a
spoiled child,
always dropping from her carelessly
closed hand
a snow of white bouquets of perfumed
stars.
Little Star
Little star the distant sky,
you look at my pain,
you know my suffering.
Come down and tell
if I want some,
because I cannot live without your
love.
You are my star beacon of love!
You know that I must soon die.
Come down and tell
if I want some,
because I cannot live without your
love.
Sentimental Melody
Wake up, come see the moon
Sleeping in the dark night
Which twinkles so beautiful and white
pouring sweetness
Clara silent calls
Burning my dream
Night wings arising
And run in deep space
Oh, sweet beloved, awake
Come give your heat in the moonlight
Wanted to know you were mine
In the serene and quiet time
The shadow trust the wind
The waiting limit
When over in the night
Claims your love
Wake up, come look at the moon
Shining in the dark night
Honey, you're beautiful and sweet
To feel my love is to dream
Dime que sí
Dicen que tú no me quieres,
Quiero escucharlo de ti,
Si tienes otros quereres
Quiero saberlo por ti.
Say Yes
They say you do not love me,
I want to hear from you,
If you have other loves
I want to know about you.
Dicen que en tu cara morena
Tiemblan otros besos de amor
Nada me importa la vida
Sabiéndote ajena,
Diles que mienten que nunca
Tendrás otro amor.
They say that in your brunette face
Tremble other kisses of love
Nothing I care about life
Others knowing you,
Tell them to never lie
You will have another love.
Let my lips appoint you
I remain as God appoints.
Say yes and I will have a piece of
heaven
And if you ask me
My heaven and also give you my life.
Mi vida eres tú
Mi vida eres tú y sabes que mi amor es
solo para ti,
tus besos me enloquecen
quiero a ti.
amor.
Se que ya no me quieres como yo te
quiero a ti.
My Life is You
My life is you and you know that my
love is just for you,
your kisses drive me crazy
and your laughter Crystal took her prey
into my being.
My life is you and you are my passion,
the only illusion that encourages my
existence.
Tell why do not you come with your
comfort to my heart.
They no longer love me as I love you.
Eccomi in lieta vesta...O quante
volte
Eccomi in lieta vesta... eccomi adorna...
Come vittima all'ara. Oh! almen potessi
Qual vittima cader dell'ara al piede!
O nuzïali tede,
Abborrite così, così fatali,
Siate, ah! siate per me faci ferali.
Ardo... una vampa, un foco
Behold me decked out…Oh! How
much time
Behold me decked out
like a victim on the altar. Oh if only I could
Fall like a victim at the foot of the altar!
Oh nuptial torches,
so hated, so fateful,
ah! would that you were the tapes of my
doom.
I burn, a blaze, a fire
all my torment.
Tutta mi strugge.
Un refrigerio ai venti io chiedo invano.
I know you do not mind my suffering.
I do not mind my pain, without you I
cannot live.
If you do not come I'm dying for your
love.
They no longer love me as I love you.
If you know that my life is you
My heart is dying to feel suffering for
your love this pain.
Ove se'tu, Romeo?
In qual terra t'aggiri?
Dove, dove invïarti i miei sospiri?
In vain I call on the winds to cool me.
Where are you Romeo?
In what lands do you wander
Where, where shall I send them, my
sighs where to?
Oh! quante volte,
Oh! quante ti chiedo
Al ciel piangendo
Con quale ardor t'attendo,
E inganno il mio desir!
Raggio del tuo sembiante
Parmi il brillar del giorno:
L'aura che spira intorno
Mi sembra un tuo respir.
Oh! How much time,
Oh! How often I beg you!
the sky weeps
with the passion of my waiting
And delude my desires!
To me the light of day
ah! is like the flash of your presence
ah! the air that winds around
is my longings.
