Bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung
Das Produkt ist zum Einbau in einen PC-kompatiblen Computer vorgesehen und stellt dort
zusätzliche USB2.0- und 1394-Schnittstellen zur Verfügung.
Wenn Sie noch keinen USB2.0-Controller (PCI-Karte oder Schnittstelle auf Mainboard) haben,
kann das Produkt auch als Erweiterung der USB1.1-Ports verwendet werden.

Konfiguration
• Verbinden Sie einen 1394-Port (es ist belanglos, welchen der 6 Ports Sie verwenden) des
3.5"-Einschubs mit einem 1394-Port Ihrer 1394-Steckkarte. Führen Sie, falls erforderlich,
das 1394-Kabel über das mitgelieferte Slotblech nach aussen.
Einbau
Falls Sie keine Fachkenntnisse für den Einbau besitzen, so lassen Sie den
Einbau von einer FACHKRAFT oder einer entsprechenden Fachwerkstatt
durchführen!
Durch unsachgemäßen Einbau wird sowohl das Produkt als auch Ihr
Computer und alle angeschlossenen Geräte beschädigt.
Vorsicht, Lebensgefahr!
Schalten Sie den Computer, in den das Produkt eingebaut werden soll und alle
angeschlossenen Geräte aus und trennen Sie alle Geräte von der
Netzspannung, ziehen Sie den Netzstecker! Das Ausschalten über den Ein/Ausschalter genügt nicht!
• Schrauben Sie das Gehäuse Ihres Computers auf und nehmen Sie den Gehäusedeckel vorsichtig ab.
• Entfernen Sie eine Abdeckung eines 3.5"-Einbauschachtes. Eventuell muss zusätzlich eine
Metallabschirmung innen im Einbauschacht entfernt werden. Abhängig vom verwendeten
PC-Gehäuse ist dazu vorher die Entfernung der kompletten Frontblende erforderlich.
• Schieben Sie den 3.5"-Einschub in den 3.5"-Einbauschacht und schrauben Sie ihn mit 4
passenden Schrauben fest.
• Verbinden Sie den Stromanschluss auf der Platine des 3.5"-Einschubs über einen 3.5"Stromstecker mit dem PC-Netzteil.
• Verbinden Sie die interne viereckige USB-Typ-B-Buchse mit einem freien USB2.0-Port des
PCs - dies kann entweder ein interner USB2.0-Port einer USB2.0-Karte sein oder ein externer USB-Port. Verwenden Sie in diesem Fall das mitgelieferte Slotblech, um das USB-Kabel
aus dem Gehäuse herauszuführen.
Falls Sie noch keinen USB2.0-Anschluss in Ihrem PC haben, kann das Kabel selbstverständlich auch mit einem herkömmlichen USB1.1-Port verbunden werden. Es ist dann aber
natürlich keine schnelle USB2.0-Datenübertragung möglich!

• Schrauben Sie den Computer wieder zu.
• Verbinden Sie Ihren Computer und Monitor wieder mit der Netzspannung und schalten Sie
alle Geräte ein.
• Startet Ihr Computer nicht korrekt, so schalten Sie ihn sofort aus und kontrollieren Sie sämtliche Einstellungen und Kabelverbindungen.
Vor dem erneuten Öffnen des PCs ist der PC von der Netzspannung zu trennen, siehe oben!

Treiber-Installation
Die Treiber sind in Windows enthalten, deshalb liegt keine Treiberdiskette o.ä. bei.! Folgen Sie
allen Anweisungen von Windows.
Eventuell ist danach zuerst ein Neustart nötig, bevor USB2.0-/1394-Geräte einwandfrei
erkannt werden.
Tipps & Hinweise
• Zum Betrieb ist mindestens Windows 98SE erforderlich.
• Es ist belanglos, welchen der USB2.0-/1394-Ports Sie zuerst benutzen, da alle Anschlüsse
gleichberechtigt sind.
Wenn Sie öfters USB-Geräte an- und abstecken, so sollten Sie darauf achten, dass das Gerät
immer an den gleichen USB-Port angesteckt wird. Ansonsten ist eine erneute
Treiberinstallation des Geräts erforderlich.
• USB- und 1394-Geräte erlauben das Ein- und Ausstecken während dem Betrieb. Sie brauchen also nicht Ihren PC ausschalten, wenn Sie Geräte ein- oder ausstecken wollen (bei
anderen Schnittstellen kann dies zu Beschädigungen führen, z.B. wenn Sie eine PS/2-Maus
während dem Betrieb ein- oder ausstecken).
• If your computer does not start correctly switch it off immediately and check all settings and
cable connections.
Prior to opening the PC once more the PC has to be separated from the mains voltage again,
see above!
Driver Installation
The drivers are included in Windows, that is why no driver-CD or similar is included!
Follow all instructions of Windows.
A restart might become necessary to operate the USB2.0-/1394-devices properly.

Tips & Notes
Prescribed Use
The product is to be installed in a PC-compatible computer and provides additional USB2.0and 1394-interfaces.
If you do not have a USB2.0-controller (PCI-card or interface to the main board) the product
may also be used as an extension of the USB1.1-ports.

Features
• Operation requires at least Windows 98SE.
• It is of no importance which of the USB2.0-/1394-ports you use first as all connections are
equal. If you are going to frequently plug in and disconnect USB-devices make sure that the
device is always connected to the same USB-port as otherwise the driver installation must
be repeated.
• USB- and 1394-devices may be plugged in and disconnected during operation. Therefore
you do not have to switch off your PC when you plug in or disconnect devices (with other
interfaces this can cause damage, e.g. if you plug in/disconnect a PS/2-mouse during operation).
However, if you pull out the USB-/1394-plug during data transmission, e.g. while a USB/1394-scanner is delivering data to the PC at the USB/1394-port, the application programme might crash and other data might be damaged as well!
• Four USB2.0/1.1-ports, internal lead for connection to USB-port

• Windows ME/XP will indicate an icon with a double arrow in the menu bar for some USB/1394-devices (mainly for hard disks, CD-ROMs/-burners, card readers). With this function
you may "separate” the USB-/1394-device from the PC by telling the PC that open files are
to be closed.
Configuration
• Of course, the USB2.0-ports support as well USB1.1. That is why here regular "slow” USBdevices may be connected as well.

• If you use a regular USB1.1-hub the high speed operation of USB2.0 will not function. In such
a case USB2.0-devices will work only with the "normal” USB1.1-speed.
• Bei Windows ME/XP erscheint bei manchen USB-/1394-Geräten (meist Festplatten, CDROMs/-Brenner, Kartenlesegeräte) ein Icon mit einem Doppelpfeil in der Menüleiste. Über
diese Funktion können Sie das USB-/1394-Gerät vom PC "trennen", dem PC also mitteilen,
dass er offene Dateien schließen soll.
• No specific "USB2.0-cables” are necessary for proper USB2.0-operation. Regular cables are
absolutely sufficient, however, they must be shielded.
If you note any transmitting problems when operating the USB2.0-devices you might try a
USB-cable which has been tested for USB-operation ("USB2.0-certified”) on a test basis.

• In the secured mode of Windows no USB-operation is possible.
Therefore normally USB-keyboards and USB-mice do not function (the BIOS of your motherboard might offer USB-support for a USB-keyboard or –mouse).
• Mit einem herkömmlichen USB1.1-Hub funktioniert der High-Speed-Betrieb von USB2.0
nicht. Die USB2.0-Geräte arbeiten dann nur mit der "normalen" USB1.1-Geschwindigkeit.
Die eine LED ist die Power-LED, die andere leuchtet bei USB2.0-Verbindung.
• Für USB2.0-Betrieb sind keine speziellen "USB2.0-Kabel" erforderlich. Herkömmliche USBKabel reichen vollig aus, allerdings müssen diese abgeschirmt sein.
Sollten Sie beim Betrieb von USB2.0-Geräten Übertragungsprobleme feststellen, so können
Sie versuchsweise ein USB-Kabel verwenden, das auf USB2.0-Betrieb getestet worden ist
("USB2.0-certified").
• Im abgesicherten Modus von Windows ist kein USB-Betrieb möglich.
USB-Tastaturen und USB-Mäuse funktionieren deshalb normalerweise nicht (evtl. bietet das
BIOS Ihres Motherboards USB-Unterstützung für eine USB-Tastatur bzw. -Maus).
• Beim Betrieb von Digital-Video-Kameras mit 1394-Anschluss kann der PC abstürzen, wenn
die Kamera ausgeschaltet wird oder die Kamera in den Standby-Modus umschaltet (z.B.
wenn der Akku leer wird).
Verwenden Sie zum Betrieb der Kamera ein Netzteil anstelle des Kamera-Akkus und schalten Sie die Kamera erst nach dem Ausschalten des PCs ab, wenn bei Ihnen dieses Problem
auftritt.
• Bei manchen Digital-Video-Kameras ist nur die Video-Wiedergabe über den 1394-Anschluss
möglich, jedoch keine Aufnahme. Beachten Sie die Anleitung zu Ihrer Digital-Video-Kamera.
• Bei der Aufnahme von Video auf sog. Digital8-Video-Kameras (bei denen die Aufnahme lt.
Anleitung möglich ist) melden Videoschnitt-Programme möglicherweise einen
"Schreibschutzfehler" o.ä.
Dies ist zurückzuführen auf die verwendete Videocassette. Benutzen Sie testweise eine teurere MP-Cassette anstelle einer herkömmlichen ME-Cassette. Die Codierung der Cassette
wird u.U. vom Videoschnitt-Programm falsch ausgewertet.
• Je nach Bauart einer externen 1394-Festplatte ist ein Partitionieren/Formatieren mit den
MS-DOS-Kommandos FDISK und FORMAT möglich oder nur mit der bei der 1394-Festplatte
mitgelieferten Software. Beachten Sie die Anleitung zu dem 1394-Gerät.
Externe USB2.0-Festplatten erfordern in der Regel spezielle Software zum
Partitionieren/Formatieren.

Installation
If you do not have any expertise for installation have it done by an EXPERT or
at a relevant specialist’s workshop!
Improper installation damages the USB-hub as well as your computer and all
connected devices.
Caution, mortal danger!
Switch off the computer in which the USB-hub is going to be installed and all
connected devices and separate them from the mains voltage, pull the mains
plug out of the socket! Switching them off at the on/off-switch is not sufficient!
• Unscrew the casing of your computer and remove carefully the covering of the casing.
• Remove a covering from a 3.5”-installation shaft. Sometimes an additional metal shielding
must be removed. Depending on the PC-casing used it might be necessary to remove the
complete front screen.
• When operating digital video cameras with a 1394-connection the computer might crash if
the camera is switched off or switches into the standby mode (e.g. when the storage battery
is discharged).
Instead of the storage battery of the camera use a mains unit and switch off the PC prior to
switching off the camera if this problem occurs.
• With some digital video cameras only the video reproduction is possible via the 1394-connection but not the recording. Observe the instructions of your digital video camera.
• When recording from video to so-called Digital8 video cameras (which are suitable for recording according to the instructions) video processing programmes possibly indicate a "write
protection error” or similar.
This results from the used video cassette. On a test basis use a more expansive MP-cassette
instead of the usual one. Possibly the encoding of the cassette is analysed incorrectly by the
video processing programme.
• Depending on the design of an external 1394-hard disk formatting/partitioning is possible
with the MS-DOS-commands FDISK and FORMAT or only with the software supplied with the
1394-hard disk. Observe the instructions of your 1394-device.
Normally external USB2.0-hard disks require a special software for partitioning/formatting.
• Insert the 3.5”-insert in the 3.5”-installtion shaft and screw it down using 4 suitable screws.
• Connect the supply point on the circuit board via a 3.5”-power plug to the PC-mains unit.
• Connect the internal rectangular socket USB-type B to a free USB2.0-port of your PC – this
may either be an internal USB2.0-port of a USB2.0-card or an external USB-port. In this case
use the supplied slot metal sheet to lead the USB-cable out of the casing.
If you do not have a USB2.0-connection in your PC the cable may, of course, be connected to
a regular USB1.1-port. Consequently, however, no fast USB2.0-data transmission is possible!
• Connect a 1394-port (it is of no importance which one of the 6 ports you use) of the 3.5”insert to a 1394-port of your 1394-insert card. If necessary lead out the 1394-cable using
the supplied slot metal sheet.
• Screw down the casing of your PC.
• Reconnect your computer and your monitor to the mains voltage and switch on all devices.

Ce produit est prévu pour être monté dans un ordinateur compatible IBM où il met à disposition des interfaces USB2.0 et 1394 supplémentaires.
Au cas où vous ne posséderiez pas encore de contrôleur USB2.0 (carte PCI ou interface sur la
carte mère), ce produit peut aussi servir d’extension du port USB1.1.

Configuration
• Si votre ordinateur ne démarre pas correctement, éteignez-le immédiatement et contrôlez
tous les réglages et tous les câblages; avant de ré-ouvrir l’ordinateur, enlevez les fiches des
prises de courant, voir ci-dessus !
Installation du pilote
Les pilotes sont compris dans Windows, il n’y a donc pas de disquette pilote jointe ! Suivez
toutes les instructions de Windows.
Il se peut qu’un redémarrage soit nécessaire pour que vos appareils USB2.0-/1394 soient
reconnus correctement.
Trucs et astuces
• Windows 98SE au moins est nécessaire au bon fonctionnement.
• Le choix du port USB2.0 /1394 utilisé en premier est sans importance car toutes les connexions sont identiques.
Si vous devez débrancher et rebrancher souvent les appareils USB, alors faites-le en utilisant toujours le même port USB. Vous évitez ainsi d’avoir à réinstaller le pilote.
• Des appareils USB et 1394 permettent la connexion/déconnexion pendant le fonctionnement. Il n’est pas nécessaire de mettre votre PC hors tension quand vous voulez connecter/déconnecter des appareils (avec d’autres interfaces, ceci pourrait provoquer des endommagements, par ex. si vous branchez/débranchez une souris PS/2 pendant le
fonctionnement).
Cependant, il n’est pas conseillé d’enlever la fiche USB/1394 tant que des transmissions de
données sont effectuées sur le port USB/1394, par ex. pendant qu’un scanner USB/1394 livre des données au PC. Ceci pourrait faire chuter le logiciel d’application et endommager également d’autres données !
• Avec Windows ME/XP, une icône avec une flèche double apparaît dans la barre de menus de
certains appareils USB/1394 (en général disques durs, cédéroms/ graveurs de CD, lecteurs
de cartes). Cette fonction vous permet de « séparer » l’appareil USB/1394 du PC, c’est-à-dire
de communiquer au PC de fermer des fichiers ouverts.
• Les ports USB2.0 peuvent naturellement être branchés sur un port USB1.1. Vous pouvez
donc raccorder des appareils USB courants « lents ».
• La transmission grande vitesse de USB2.0 ne fonctionne pas avec un hub USB1.1 classique.
Les appareils USB2.0 travaillent alors à la vitesse « normale » USB1.1.
Un des voyants LED est l’interrupteur marche/arrêt « Power », l’autre s’allume lorsqu’il y a une
connexion USB2.0.
Montage
Au cas où vous n’auriez aucune connaissance spécifique concernant le montage d’un hub dans un ordinateur, laissez faire ce montage par du personnel
ou un atelier spécialisé !
Un montage incorrect peut provoquer un endommagement du hub mais aussi
de l’ordinateur et de tous les appareils y étant branchés.
Attention, danger de mort !
Éteignez l’ordinateur dans lequel vous voulez installer le hub ainsi que tous les
appareils y étant connectés et débranchez tous ces appareils du secteur,
enlevez les fiches des prises de courant ! Éteindre seulement par l’interrupteur ne suffit pas !
• Le bon fonctionnement de USB 2.0 ne nécessite normalement pas de câbles USB 2.0 spéciaux. Des câbles USB « normaux » sont absolument suffisants; cependant, ces derniers doivent être blindés.
Au cas où vous constateriez des problèmes de transmission sur des appareils USB 2.0,
essayez d’utiliser un câble USB dont le fonctionnement sur USB 2.0 (" USB2.0- certified") a
été testé.
• Le mode de sauvegarde de Windows ne permet pas le fonctionnement USB.
Normalement donc, les claviers et les souris USB ne fonctionnent pas. (Il se peut que le BIOS
de votre carte mère offre un support USB pour clavier et/ou souris USB).
• Lorsque vous utilisez une caméra vidéo numérique dotée d’une connexion 1394, veillez à ne
pas éteindre la caméra ou évitez qu’elle ne passe en mode de veilleuse (par exemple quand
les accus sont vides). Ceci pourrait faire chuter le PC.
Préférez utiliser alors un bloc d’alimentation au lieu des accus de la caméra et n’éteignez-la
qu’une fois que le PC est éteint lui-même si vous vous voyez confronté à ce problème.
• Certaines caméras vidéo ne peuvent que reproduire un vidéo à l’aide de la connexion 1394
mais ne peuvent pas enregistrer. Respectez le mode d’emploi de votre caméra vidéo numérique.
• Dévissez le capot de l’unité centrale de votre ordinateur et enlevez-le prudemment.
• Enlevez la protection d’un compartiment 3.5". Éventuellement, vous devez enlever aussi une
protection métallique à l’intérieur du compartiment. Selon le type de capot du PC utilisé, il
est nécessaire d’enlever d’abord tout le panneau avant du capot.
• Insérez la plaque enfichable 3.5" dans l’emplacement 3.5" et fixez-la avec quatre vis appropriées.
• Reliez la borne d’alimentation en courant de la platine de l’emplacement 3.5" avec l’adaptateur secteur du PC au moyen d’un connecteur 3.5"pour alimentation en courant.
• Branchez la douille interne rectangulaire USB type B sur un port USB2.0 libre du PC – ceci
peut être soit un port USB2.0 interne d’une carte USB 2.0 soit un port USB externe. Dans ce
cas, veuillez utiliser le cache-emplacement joint pour faire sortir le câble USB du capot.
• Lors d’un enregistrement sur une caméra vidéo numérique 8 (où l’enregistrement est possible selon le mode d’emploi), les programmes de montage de vidéo signalent éventuellement une erreur de « protection d’écriture » ou une autre erreur.
Ceci est dû à la cassette vidéo utilisée. Utilisez à titre d’essai une cassette MP plus chère au
lieu de la cassette ME classique. La codification de la cassette est peut-être mal exploitée
par le programme de montage de vidéo.
• Selon le modèle d’un disque dur 1394 formater/ créer des partitions est possible avec les
commandes MS-DOS- FDISK et FORMAT ou bien seulement avec le logiciel livré avec le disque dur 1394. Respectez le mode d’emploi de votre appareil 1394.
Les disques durs USB2.0 externes nécessitent en général un logiciel spécialisé pour formater/ créer des partitions.
Si votre PC ne dispose pas encore d’une connexion USB2.0, le câble peut naturellement être
aussi branché sur un port USB1.1 classique. Bien entendu, une transmission rapide des données USB2.0 n’est pas possible dans ce cas.
• Connectez un port 1394 (il est sans importance, lequel des six ports vous utilisez) de la plaque enfichable 3.5"-avec un port 1394 de votre carte 1394. Faites sortir le câble 1394 à l’extérieur à l’aide du cache-emplacement joint.
