Lycée Corneille, Rouen, France RESEARCH EXPERIENCE Sept. 2008 … Arts et Métiers ParisTech – CER de Paris, Paris, France … Today PIMM (Process and Engineering in Mechanics and Materials, former LMSP Processes and Systems Mechanics Laboratory) Study of chatter instability in turning Most methods deal with simple turning models to establish stability lobes: orthogonal cutting assumption, use of only a few degrees of freedom, linearization of cutting law around the nominal cutting condition. The drawbacks are a poor stability limits prediction and no knowledge of periodic cycles occurring due to nonlinear effects stabilization. Our work aims at going beyond these simplifications using a modal description of the system and frequential approaches combined with global analysis tools. Nov. 2005… Ecole Centrale de Lyon, Lyon, France – Snecma Motors (Safran Group) … Sept. 2008 LTDS (Laboratory of Tribology and Systems Dynamics) Global analysis of nonlinear mechanical systems – Application to rotor dynamics The aim of this PhD thesis was to propose and test a method able to find all the solutions of a nonlinear dynamical system, especially systems in the field of rotor dynamics. Several existing methods were compared (cell-mapping, exclusion test based methods, interval analysis). A common problem was that they required too much computation time. A combination of harmonic balance method plus a polynomial approximation that let the resulting system be solved “globally” using a homotopic approach was then proposed and successfully applied to several examples. It has been shown to be the most cost effective method. At the moment, it has only been developed to find constant and periodic solutions. April 2005 … Ecole Centrale de Lyon, Lyon, France – Snecma Motors (Safran Group) … Sept. 2005 LTDS (Laboratory of Tribology and Systems Dynamic) Study of instabilities occurring beyond the first rotor flexion mode Stress was put on instabilities due to damping in rotating parts. An easy to use stability criterion was established. Other instabilities occurring when axisymmetry is broken were also considered. E. Sarrouy - Curriculum Vitae 1 RESARCH INTERESTS I was introduced to structural dynamics and dimensioning problems through my Master’s degree. My final year project “Global analysis of nonlinear mechanical systems – Application to rotor dynamics” gave me the opportunity to learn about rotating machineries modelling and study in the linear case and to practice stability methods. My PhD thesis work then let me handle nonlinear systems – rotating or not – and the main tools helpful to their study: classical time integration schemes, shooting method to exhibit periodic solutions, the harmonic balance method (frequential approach), stability and bifurcation detection (Floquet theory, continuation algorithms, etc.). I then was able to work at developing a global analysis method which aimed at finding all the solutions of a nonlinear system (in a reasonable amount of time). I tested several methods like cell-mapping, cell-exclusion algorithms, interval analysis based methods and homotopy methods for polynomial systems. Taking advantage on this last one, I proposed a method able to find every constant or periodic solution of a nonlinear dynamical system faster than with the three previous methods. Currently in the Process and Engineering in Mechanics and Materials, I work with Prof. P. Lorong in order to apply this method to chatter instability during turning, which is, on a system modelled by delayed differential equations.
