day until he is accepted.
D. Simon is determined. "On a trestle table in the corner of lodgings he intended to make permanent ….until his question
is had been answered positively" (l. 19-22).
He is also hesitant. "It was on the fourth afternoon, just as doubt was beginning to set in and Simon was wondering if
after all he would have to travel to Cambridge the following week" (l. 24-25).
E. As we can read l. 41 "Mrs. Kerslake was not surprised when her son went on to be President of the Oxford Union",

1. Right "I traded lots of dreams for a bigger paycheck" (l. 3) OR "rich people like me" ( l. 17).
2. Right "as if I'd simply been on a long vacation" (l.5).
3. Right "I once promised myself I would never work for money, that I would join the Peace Corps, that I would live in
beautiful, inspirational places" (l.12-13).
4. Wrong "My days were full, yet I remained, much of the time, unsatisfied" (l. 20).
I. The narrator realizes that he is not leading the life he had wanted to. He has lost his dreams along the way and that
makes him unhappy and bitter. His professional life has taken over and he has been trapped in the rat race.
J. The narrator feels depressed, lonely, and inadequate. He has lost all sense of belonging.
This casual conversation with his friend makes him feel ill-at ease and confused about something he has never really
thought of. Something he may have tried to repress for years, namely the loss of his dreams. Talking to Morrie has
revealed hom pointless his life is. As he is starting a mid-life crisis, he seems to be in need of support from his friend.
Documents A and B
K.
1. c. Success in life
2. Simon has succeeded in enrolling at Oxford. He is therefore on the road to greater success as he aims at becoming
Britain's future Prime Minister. He is characterized by his audacious temper and a bit of luck too, as the saying
goes: "Fortune favours the brave". As for the narrator in Document B, he has succeeded according to accepted
norms. However, he is not satisfied with the way his life has turned out to be since he has abandoned his former
ideals without realizing them.
