Saint Patrick's day
Le Jour de la Saint Patrick est la Fête Nationale en Irlande. Les Irlandais du
monde entier célèbrent leur Saint national en ne s'habillant que de vert, la
couleur de l'Irlande, et en défilant dans les rues.

La Saint Patrick est célébrée le 17 mars par les Irlandais pour honorer Saint
Patrick, un missionnaire qui a converti l'Irlande au christianisme.
On dit qu'il a utilisé le trèfle pour expliquer le concept de la Sainte Trinité:
le Père, le Fils et le Saint Esprit.
Depuis ce jour, le trèfle est l'emblème national de l'Irlande, et les Irlandais le
portent fièrement à leur boutonnière le jour de la Saint Patrick.
On associe le vert à la Saint Patrick, parce que c'est la couleur du printemps
et du trèfle emblème de l'Irlande.
Patrick, le Saint Patron de l'Irlande, est né soit dans une famille écossaise, soit
dans une famille anglaise au cours du quatrième siècle. Lorsqu'il était adolescent, il
a été enlevé par un homme qui s'appelait Niall of the Nine Hostages. Niall est
devenu plus tard roi d'Irlande. Patrick est mort le 17 mars de l'année 461 à l'âge de
76 ans. Il y a plusieurs monuments à sa mémoire en Irlande, bien qu'on ne soit pas
vraiment sûr de la tombe où sont ses restes.
On associe souvent à cette fête un petit personnage, un "leprachaun", qui
pourrait apporter chance et fortune, comme un trèfle à quatre feuilles.
