History : The CEDIB was part of the Institute of Rural Education INEDER. In
1993 CEDIN obtain a legal capacity to introduce the lines of action: coca and
environment. Currently, CEDIB is the publisher of the magazine "30 Dias" of the
newspaper collection and the electronic bulletins “Cocapress” and “Bolivapress”.
CEDIB develops the information services SIC in several country departments.

History : The Library of the NUR University was established in 1986. In 1986,
ten librarians from the library received professional training in information
technologies and library administration in Canadian Universit y Libraries (in
Toronto and Ryerson) within the framework of a five year joint project between
the Library and the Canadian University Libraries. In 2000-2001, the
establishment of the information system in the library was completed..
Library Profile: This is a University Library with a total number of staff of 14
persons with university degrees and professional training.

technologie informatique est très haut. Il y a des catalogues on-line et des fichiers

History : The Library was established in 1878 as the Sofia Public Library. In
1879 the Library was transformed into a state institution and renamed the
Bulgarian National Library. In 1900 the Bulgarian National Library was installed
its first building. In 1924, the Archives Department with the special collection of
the Archive of Bulgarian Revival was founded. Air raids over Sofia during World
War II destroyed both the old and new buildings A new building was officially
opened in 1953 and in 1963 the Library was renamed Cyril and Methodius
National Library. In 1994 the National Library was declared a cultural institution
with national importance.
Library Profile : Scientific and Public Library is supervised bythe Ministry of

History: The Library was established in 1883. Since 1945 the library was
designated a legal deposit library. The Library is supervised and financed by the
Municipality of Varna.

Histoire : La bibliothèque a été créée au mois du mars 1999 sous l’initiative de
la Mission catholique. Elle est située dans un quartier de la périphérie de la ville.
Profil de la bibliothèque : La Bibliothèque est sous la responsabilité de
l’archevêque de Ndjamena. Toutefois elle a sa reconnaissance particulière avec la
légalisation prochaine du Centre. Le chiffre total du personnel de la bibliothèque
est 10 personnes, dont la plus grande partie a une éducation supérieure et
formation professionnelle.
Fonctions de la bibliothèque : La fonction principale de la Bibliothèque est la
formation et l’éducation des jeunes.

History : The institutional Library of the Bank of the Republic of Colombia
was opened to the public in 1933 and established as a Public Library in 1958.
Library Profile : The Library is a cultural centre: it has a Concert Hall and the
richest Art Museums of Colombia, the Botero Museum, the Art Collection of the
Bank of the Republic and the Numismatic Collection. It heads a network of 19
public libraries in the main Colombian cities.
Library Functions : The library is a public library, with large patrimonial and
scientific collections. It serves the general public, university faculty and students
and researchers. It is a reference library for Colombian books and periodicals.
Structure : The library is an administrative unit in the Bank of the Republic. It
is a state institution, but independent of the government. It is part of the
Subgerencia Cultural (Vice-presidency for Cultural Affairs) of the Bank.
Departments: It is organized in the following areas: Cataloguing, Acquisitions
and Collection Conservatio n, Services to the Public, Education and Information,
Music, Art Collections, Museology and Temporary Exhibitions, General Services.
Library collection increased through: The Bank of the Republic finances the
full operation of the library and the developme nt of bibliographical and art
collections. The library has independent income, for services, space rentals,
concert tickets, and membership fees of about US 500.000 every year, which
covers only a small part of the budget. The "Friends of the Art Collectio n Society"
supports art acquisitions.
General Collection: The general collection has 1.300.000 volumes (850.000
monograph titles, 16.500 periodical titles, 70.000 art slides, 7.000 maps, 24.000
sound and image recordings, 9200 microfilms, 500 electronic records). 19 branch
Libraries have 360.000 volumes. The monograph collections grows yearly by
50000 volumes every year.

historical manuscripts). Art Collection: 3500 original art works, including
European paintings and sculptures (Some Renaissance, XVII, Century,
Impressionists and 20th century, but mostly Colombian and Latin American art).

Subscription to on- line periodical databases: 3500 titles. Deposit Library of World
Bank, FAO and UNICEF.
Catalogues: All collections are in the general computer catalogue, with
1.250.000 records. Classification: The Library follows Marc II format, and Dewey
classification system.
Services offered to users : 10 reading rooms with 2000 reading places:
General, Art and Humanities; Science and Technology, Economics, Social
Sciences, Music, Rare Books and Manuscripts, Maps, Sound and Video
Recordings. Open to all persons, all ages, free of charge. (Readers in 2001:
2.400.000; total visitors 4.950.000). Video projection Rooms, Piano and music
instrument rooms. Video and Audio cabins. Researchers cabins. Talking
comp uters for blind persons. Internet room (18 computers) 40 photocopying
machines. Electronic mail reference and answer services. Convention Centre for

Working hours : The Library opens 80 hours a week: 8 to 8 Monday to
Saturdays; 8 to 4 on Sundays. Closing days are19 every year.
Information management and information technology: The Catalogue is a
NOTIS (Northwestern Online Total Integrated System) library management system,
on a IBM mainframe computer with 300 catalogue terminals for in house use. The
catalogue is available on Internet. The web page has an internal server (Sun) and a
mirror in a U.S. server. The web page, with 70000 pages of text and 12000 images, is
5 gigabytes. The 20 libraries of the network use the same catalogue, on a satellite
network. Art and numismatic collections use an additional digital image catalogue.
Cultural activities: 100 concerts (international and national artists) in the
Concert Hall. 20 art expositions every year, of international and national artists.
Four permanent collections opened to the public: Botero Museum (250 works,
European and Colombian); Art Collection of the Bank of the Republic (200 works
in exhibition, Colombian and Latin American); Numismatic Collection (9
exhibition halls); Musical Instrument Collection.
Scientific activities: The Library publishes an art and humanities periodical:
Boletín Cultural y Bibliografico, and book collections in history and the arts. All
publications are available for exchange.
Memberships : The Library is member of UNESCO UNAL network.
Involvement in international programmes:
Current Projects: 1) Implementing a National Book Loan System, in 24 major
cities of Colombia, making all library collections available for home use to
patrons in any city. Now operating for Bogota and 4 other cities. 2) Digitizing of
1000 basic books of Colombian heritage to 1900. 200 books already in the web. 3)
Digitizing ot 2000 analogue Concert Hall recordings 1965-1995; 800 already
done. 4) Co-operative Index of Academic Periodicals of Colombia. Jointly with
several University Libraries. Building of 8 new exhibition halls ("Manzana
Cultural". i.e. "cultural block", with a total of 48 art exhibition halls, shops,
restaurant, cafeteria, auditorium, etc.), to be opened in 2003. 5) Continuous
growth of virtual library. 6) Migration to a new LMS by 2005.

History: The Medvescak Public Library was established in 1948. In 1957 the
department for children has been setting up and in 1980 the branch children's library
was opened. The Medvescak Public Library covers a district of Zagreb with some
50,000 habitants, but it is open to the whole population of Zagreb regardless of which
district they live. The Library functions in two locations. 1976 the first toy lending
service in Croatia was opened in the Medvescak Library, followed by organized play
activities for pre-school children and programmes for parents. As of 1993 there is no
age limit to become a member as the Library has started with programmes for babies
and parents. In 1984 the Medvescak Public Library was computerized.
Library Profile: The Medvescak Public Library is a Public Library. The total number
of staff is 45 persons, with university degrees and professional training–21 persons,
university degree–5, professional training–11 persons.
Library Functions: To serve the entire community as a public library; free access to
information, life- long learning, cultural activities and improving personal development;
develop various kinds of library services and programmes for children and young adults
in order to improve the quality of life in the community; serve as a model library for
children and young adult's services.

History : Assab Public Library was established in July 1997 in the Municipality

History: The Scientific Library of the Urals State University is one of the
largest libraries in the Urals. It was established in 1920 and 15 00 volumes were
contributed to the newly created Library by the Emperor Alexander Lyceum
(located in Tzarskoje Selo in St. Petersburg). In mid-20s the University and its
Library were disbanded, book stocks were dispersed only to be recreated in the
30s. From 1946 the Library has been provided with an obligatory copy of each
item of literature published in the former SU (and in Russia now), consistent with
the scientific background of the University.

Histoire : La Bibliothèque Central de Cornellà, provient d'une petite bibliothèque
municipale inaugurée en 1943, faisant partie au réseau de bibliothèques populaires
dirigé par l'ex "Diputación de Barcelona". La Bibliothèque est modernisée, amplifiée et
informatisée en 1996 installée au centre-ville, dans un nouveau centre culturel ; dédié à
Joan N. García-Nieto, illustre personnage. La bibliothèque occupe 2.600m2 du
bâtiment : le rez-de-chaussée et deux étages suivants.
Profil de la bibliothèque : La bibliothèque de Cornellà est une bibliothèque publique
sous la supervision administrative de la Municipalité de la ville et fait partie du réseau

Histoire: Le 12 mai 1988, M. IBRAHIM Abikeigny et ses amis ont créé dans leur
quartier de résidence à Nyékonakpoé un Club de Lecture pour les Jeunes avec leurs
propres moyens. Le quartier Nyékonakpoé est l’un des plus peuplés de Lomé et
également l’un des plus anciens. Le nombre important d’écoles et collèges qu’il abrite
en sont un témoignage. A son ouverture, la Bibliothèque - BIC de Nyékonakpoé
disposait un fond de 155 livres, et aujourd’hui ses fonds comptent 1 200 livres. Il faut
attribuer la grande partie des soutiens, que nous avons reçu à l’actif des Volontaires du
Corps de la Paix des Etats-Unis d’Amérique au Togo et au Projet Lecture Publique. Il
manque le sérieux soutien matériel et financier pour faire développer les initiatives
éducatives que la Bibliothèque - BIC entend mettre à la disposition de la communauté.
Profil de la bibliothèque : En 1991 le Ministère des Affaires Sociales qui a autorisé
l’implantation de la Bibliothèque - BIC au sein du Centre Social «Maison Pour Tous».
Un contrat d’objections avec le Projet Lecture Publique du Ministère de la Culture, de la
Jeunesse et des Sports est fait. Le chiffre total du personnel est 10 personnes qui ont un
niveau supérieur d’études et de formation professionnelle.
Fonctions de la bibliothèque : formation culturelle et scientifique pour toutes les
catégories d’usagers. Familiariser le public avec le livre, encourager leurs contacts avec
