Know how to drop anchor properly
A national park is an outstanding place open to everyone,
but everyone has a responsibility for it.
It is protected by regulations. Please keep to them.
For the safety of users of the marine environment,
mooring is regulated and speeds are limited:
• to 12 knots in park waters, i.e. up to 600
metres from the coast,
• to 5 knots in the 300-metre zone
• to 3 knots in the port.

Boats over 30 m long are not permitted to drop anchor.
Around the entire coastal fringe of the island of Port-Cros
and the islands of Bagaud, La Gabinière and Le Rascas, it
is prohibited, except for pressing safety reasons, to land any
type of boat or moor outside the rings provided, using a rope
or an anchor, on the land portion.
In addition, landing on the islands is prohibited outside the
quay provided.
From 15 June to 15 September, you are prohibited from
walking outside the waymarked paths throughout the
National Park land mass.

1 • C hoose a spot where the bottom is sandy, to
protect the posidonia beds,
2 • Drop your anchor with a mooring line,
3 • Drop a length of chain equivalent to three times
the depth of the water to avoid dragging,
4 • Don’t drop astern more than necessary in order
to hook without damaging the bottom,
5 • Lift your anchor with a mooring line to unhook
the anchor without pulling out the posidonia.
By order of the Maritime Prefect, only boats equipped with
wastewater tanks, i.e. “clean boats” are permitted access
to the waters of Port-Cros.
This order brings into application a general regulation
that seeks to prohibit boats that do not comply with the
provisions of ministerial order no. 96.611 of 4 July 1996
from entering certain areas along the French coastline.
Boat owners are therefore invited to equip their boats to
meet the agreed standards.
> Don’t use domestic detergents on board: use biodegradable
ones instead.
> Don’t discharge your wastewater into the sea: spare a
thought for the marine life and coastal plants.
ATTENTION CAULERPA TAXIFOLIA !
• Since 1994, this introduced seaweed, which represents
a serious threat to the marine environment, has been
found in Port-Cros waters every year. The national Park
is making every effort to ensure that it does not colonise
the island.
• To help us, please mark the spot with a buoy and report
its presence to us immediately.
• Wherever you are, when you weigh anchor, check that
you haven’t got fragments of Caulerpa attached to the
anchor. If you have, clean the anchor carefully and put
the fragments in a bin.
• Do NOT throw them back in the sea. If you do, you’ll
be helping the seaweed to expand its territory.

The oceans are home to 75%
of known living species.
The greatest biological diversity is to be found
at depths of up to 200 m, and especially near
coastlines: this is what makes the marine
environment so rich and fragile.

scuba-diving is authorised only to individual divers
and diving establishments that have signed the
partnership charter.

Commercial fishing is regulated and subject to the
annual signing of a partnership Charter with the
National Park.
The charter provides for a limitation to 40 divers
operating on a site at the same time and sets out
rules for behaviour that are respectful of habitats
and species.

underwater lighting disturbs the peace of the fish.
