1 Dossier pédagogique Anglais La lutte contre l’homophobie Fighting homophobia Discipline associée : ECJS B1-B2/Lycée Accueil Dans ce dossier pédagogique, les élèves s’informent sur la Journée internationale de lutte contre l’homophobie qui se tient chaque année, le 17 mai, et les actions menées. Ils réalisent que chacun est responsable et peut jouer un rôle dans cette lutte contre les discriminations, la violence et l’intolérance. On discute également du rôle des institutions. On aboutit à un projet : organiser une journée de lutte contre l’homophobie dans l’établissement en réalisant divers supports de communication. Compétences générales) Communicatifs : activités de communication langagière et stratégies, capacités traitées (cf. chapitre IV) Langagiers : compétences linguistiques, sociolinguistiques et pragmatiques (cf. chapitre V, 2. Compétences spécifiques) Les Documents supports constituent autant de types de « textes » authentiques permettant de travailler les objectifs (cf. chapitre IV). La séquence pédagogique comprend correspondre à trois séances de cours. trois étapes pouvant Étape 1 Objectifs et dispositif préconisé Cette première étape permettra d’abord aux élèves d’échanger sur le thème de la lutte contre l’homophobie et de découvrir les actions mises en œuvre par les activistes lors de la Journée internationale de lutte contre l’homophobie qui se déroule chaque année. On se concentrera plus particulièrement sur l’homophobie sur Internet et sur les réseaux sociaux. La première activité d’anticipation se fera de manière collégiale puis la seconde activité en salle multimédia afin d’effectuer des recherches sur Internet. Activité 1 : anticipation du thème et étude d’un document iconographique Document 1 : affiche de la campagne 2013 de la Journée de lutte contre l’homophobie, sur le site Fondation Emergence, www.fondationemergence.org/. Sélectionnez ensuite à ANGLAIS – B1-B2 (LYCEE) – LA LUTTE CONTRE L’HOMOPHOBIE © 2013 – SCÉRÉN – CNDP 5 gauche la campagne « Combattez le virus Web de l'homophobie » (2013) et téléchargez l’affiche en anglais. Le professeur veillera à dévoiler l’affiche pas à pas. D’abord, il montrera le virus, en mauve et laissera les élèves décrire et analyser ce qu’ils voient. Ils penseront sans doute à un virus tel que le HIV, qui leur est bien connu. Le professeur dévoilera ensuite la phrase en dessous : « On the Internet and in social media » et incitera les élèves à réagir. On peut attendre d’eux de faire le lien avec les hackers et les virus informatiques. Il faudra enfin montrer l’ensemble de l’affiche. Les élèves exprimeront sans doute leur surprise de voir le lien entre le virus et la lutte contre l’homophobie. Le professeur leur demandera de réagir et ils pourront ensuite consigner la trace écrite de leurs idées et réactions. Activité 2 : recherche d’informations sur Internet Document 2 : dépliant de la campagne 2013 de la Journée de lutte contre l’homophobie, sur le site Fondation Emergence, www.fondationemergence.org/. Télécharger le dépliant « Fight the homophobia web virus on the internet and in social media ». Document 3 : article sur le site www.homophobiaday.org. Cliquer sur « I’m in! » puis « How to participate ». En suivant les indications de la Fiche Élève 1, les élèves effectueront des recherches sur le site www.homophobiaday.org. Ils découvriront la notion de « cyberhomophobia ». Cette activité reprend et synthétise ce qu’ils ont appris grâce à l’affiche étudiée lors de la première activité. Ils récolteront un certain nombre d’informations sur les actions menées lors de la Journée internationale de lutte contre l’homophobie. Les élèves pourront ensuite mettre en commun leurs informations pour vérifier leurs réponses. Le professeur pourra leur demander de commenter leurs réponses au fur et à mesure, puisque chaque item peut faire l’objet d’une discussion. Les propositions des élèves constitueront ainsi une trace écrite à consigner. La question « Read the information on how to get involved and choose the action you would like to set up next year. Get ready to explain your choice to your classmates » leur permettra de s’exprimer librement, de débattre sur les actions à mener, et les aiguillera pour la tâche finale. Étape 2 Objectifs et dispositif préconisé En salle multimédia, les élèves travailleront sur un reportage télévisé de la BBC. Cette compréhension audiovisuelle leur permettra d’en apprendre davantage sur la lutte contre l’homophobie : l’état des lieux succinct grâce aux résultats d’un sondage européen, les ANGLAIS – B1-B2 (LYCEE) – LA LUTTE CONTRE L’HOMOPHOBIE © 2013 – SCÉRÉN – CNDP 6 législations, les droits des homosexuels en Europe… Activité 3 : compréhension audiovisuelle Document 4 : document audiovisuel sur le site www.bbc.co.uk. Dans la barre de recherche, taper « EU survey sparks concern over homophobic abuse. » et sélectionner la vidéo du même nom. Les élèves travailleront avec l’aide de la Fiche Élève 2 sur laquelle ils répondront à des questions, en autonomie. Une mise en commun sera l’occasion de vérifier leurs réponses et de débattre sur le rôle des institutions dans cette lutte contre l’homophobie. On pourra insister sur l’opposition et le contraste, la concession et la restriction lors de la phase de partage et de reformulation. Le professeur consignera leurs productions et une trace écrite sera proposée. Étape 3 Objectifs et dispositif préconisé En groupe, les élèves accompliront la tâche finale. Activité 4 : mise en place de la tâche finale À l’aide des informations récoltées lors de l’étude des quatre documents précédents, et en prenant en compte les actions évoquées à la fin de la première étape, les élèves décideront de l’action qu’ils veulent mener : création d’une affiche dénonçant l’homophobie ; tract à distribuer (comment dénoncer les actes de violence, les propos écrits sur les réseaux sociaux) ; création d’un clip à diffuser ; etc. Les élèves pourront organiser une journée de lutte contre l’homophobie dans l’établissement, pour montrer leurs productions et ainsi contribuer à l’éducation de leurs camarades. Le professeur veillera à ce que chaque groupe travaille un support différent afin de privilégier la diversité des supports de communication. S’il a la possibilité d’élaborer cette séquence avec deux ou plusieurs classes, il pourra proposer à chaque classe de travailler un support spécifique et donc une tâche finale différente pour chacune. Prolongements éventuels Étude de diverses campagnes publicitaires contre l’homophobie : la campagne irlandaise, www.belongto.org. La campagne insiste sur l’amitié comme arme contre l’intolérance et l’homophobie ; les campagnes australiennes : o www.notohomophobia.com.au. Les vidéos peuvent êtres visionnées sur YouTube grâce au lien de la page « get informed ». Cette campagne insiste sur la responsabilité de chacun face aux actes homophobes, afin d’inciter les gens à les dénoncer. o www.getup.org.au, cliquer sur « Campaigns » puis sur « Marriage equality ». Ce groupe activiste australien, GetUp !, propose une campagne en faveur du mariage homosexuel afin de faire voter une loi par le gouvernement qui instaurerait l’égalité entre couples homosexuels et hétérosexuels. Cette vidéo peut également être travaillée avec un groupe d’élèves de niveau A2/B1. La mission de l’Unesco, http://en.unesco.org. L’article « Online Games: A Free Fire Zone for Hate Speech? » sur www.cbsnews.com (taper le titre de l’article dans le moteur de recherche) traite du problème des jeux en ligne et du langage utilisé par les joueurs. Ce langage homophobe est malheureusement devenu courant chez les jeunes notamment. Un chercheur nous dévoile des informations et des chiffres stupéfiants lors d’une interview.
