ten largest Episcopal churches in the United States. Located in the historic Belle
Meade section of the city, it was organized as a parish in 1952. In 1986 a large
new church was built containing a three manual 58-stop organ given as a
memorial by the family of Ralph Owen.
Organist-Choirmaster of the church during the building of the instrument was
Wilma Jensen. During her 19-year tenure in addition to her own skills as a
concert organist and performer, she established a reputation for a superb choral
program. In 1989, the choir was asked to perform at the American Choral

.That
same year the choir made a three-week tour of Europe, singing at numerous sites
including Westminster Abbey, Canterbury Cathedral and for Mass at the
Cathedral of Notre-Dame. Dr. Jensen has made a number of recordings of solo
literature and works with the choir using the St. George Casavant.
The main instrument is positioned at the front of the church above the heads of
the choir in a semicircular space. From this location high in the building it speaks
freely into the long nave of the church. An Antiphonal Organ, including a
Trompette-en-chamade on the gallery rail is located at the back of the nave where
it is used for supporting congregational singing as well as being a foil to the main
instrument.
I would like to recommend very highly the Casavant Organ
Company. I thing their tonal design and the beauty of each pipe

on…The
Casavant organ is beautiful not only tonally but impeccable in its
mechanical construction of all parts. The Nashville instrument has
needed minimal upkeep and the tuning has been very stable.
