A Sample Word Processing Tutorial
The Technology Integration Example (A Discussion Board en Français) at the beginning
of Chapter 10 showed how teachers might have students use various technology
resources to enhance French language learning. One strategy has them doing a French
menu in order to practice their language use skills in an authentic task. Using the tutorial
below, create a word-processed French menu in Microsoft Word® like the example
shown here.
Required System Settings
1. This tutorial assumes that
you have installed
Microsoft Word® on your
computer, including all
additional fonts and clip
art. If you do not have
the fonts and clip art used
in this tutorial, you can
substitute others that you
have on your system.
2. Before you begin, be sure
to have the Standard,
Formatting and Drawing
Toolbars available. Click
View > Toolbars to
select these as shown at
the left.

Follow the steps below to create the menu shown on the previous page:
1. Open Microsoft Word®
2. Insert the Eiffel Tower background: Insert > Picture > Clip Art
2.1 Click Clip Art
The Clip Art Search menu will appear on the right of your screen.
2.2 Enter "France"
2.3 Click Search
2.4 Click the
image to insert it
2.5 Click/Drag
corner handle
to resize image
if necessary
2.6 Right-click on the image,
then click Format Picture
2.7 On the Picture tab, click
the color pull-down menu &
click Washout
2.7 On the Layout tab, click
Behind Text and Center
2.8 Click OK
2.9 Click elsewhere on the page so that the image is no longer selected
The menu is now ready for text
3. Save your work: File > Save
3.1 Click File > Save
3.2 Enter File name:

3.3 Click
Save
Note: Save your work frequently to prevent data loss
4. Format the Menu's title: Format > Font
4.1 Set
Font: Curlz MT
Font style: Bold
Size: 48
4.2 Click OK
5. Set the title alignment: Format > Paragraph
5.1 Set
Alignment: Centered
Line spacing: 1.5 lines
5.2 Click OK
6. Set the page margins: File > Page Setup
6.1 Set
Margins: As shown
6.2 Click OK
7. Enter the text for the title: Le Café Du Parc
8. Change title font colors
8.2 Click the
desired color
from the font
color pulldown menu
8.1 Highlight the letter
8.3 Continue to change the color of each letter to match the example menu
9. Change the text font and size for menu body
9.1 In the Formatting
menu set:
Font: Andy
Size: 20
Alignment: Center
10. Enter the section title:

11. Select and underline section title
11.1 Triple click to
select the entire line
11.2 Click the
underline icon
12. Set accent marks
12.1 Highlight letter to accent
12.2 Open Insert > Symbol
menu and double click on
symbol
13. Continue to enter the remaining text with symbol additions, as illustrated in the
example menu.
14. Adding the Clip Art: Insert > Picture > Clip Art
Follow the procedure in Step #2 to locate food clip art to decorate the menu.
15. To locate additional clip art online: Insert > Picture > Clip Art > Clips Online
15.1 Click Clips Online at
the bottom of the Clip Art
search page
15.2 Search for
"France"
15.3 Click Next to
browse through
your results
15.4 Select
your choice
15.5 Click
Download
15.6 Click Clip
Organizer version

Download Now
