Introduction
This document is to help you install your Micro Estimating software system. After the
software is installed, refer to the configuration section in the tutorial, located on the
Micro Estimating CD in the tutorial folder, as “tutorial.pdf”. Information on Terminal
Server setup and configuration is also in this tutorial.
The software has been designed to increase the productivity of estimators of all types.
Whether you are an OEM, job shop, or tool & die shop, our software system can be
tailored to fit most any estimating requirement. There are many databases that can be
modified to suit your methods and needs.
On-line Help
For detailed help information on any screen in the program after installation, press the
[F1] key at any time. Our help files are context sensitive, and will direct you to the
correct information automatically.
System Requirements
You will need at least a 1 Ghz workstation computer, running Windows 2000 or above,
with 150 MB of available hard drive space, to run the software. The server computer may
require up to 300 MB of available hard drive space. We recommend Windows 2000 or
above with 512 MB of RAM or more; 1 GB of RAM is recommended for 3D solids
features.
Micro Estimating does not certify that our software will function as expected on
Windows 3x, 95, 98, or ME. Micro Estimating Systems will not support installation of
Micro Estimating on these operating systems.
In order to successfully install the software, in Windows XP, 2000, 2003 and Vista, the
user account that you are logged in as must be a non-restricted user. Adding the user
account to the “Administrators” group or the “computer Administrator” role will allow
the software to register correctly.
Installing MSE and Partner software:
If you are installing a multi-user networked system, perform the setup from a networked
workstation with an appropriate drive mapped to a UNC location
(\\servername\sharename) on the server. Do not install a networked system directly from
the file server since the installation path names will be relative to the server’s drive letters
rather than the workstation drive letters, also a reboot will be required. If you are
installing to a non-networked PC or laptop, you will need to install both the server and
client components.
To install the program do the following:
• Close all open applications and disable any spyware or antivirus programs.
• Insert the CD-ROM.
• If the Micro Loading screen does not appear, click Start|Run. Type in D:\SETUP and
click OK. (You may have to substitute D: with a different drive letter for your CD drive).
• It may take a few minutes for the Installation screen to appear click the
“Install Software” button.
• To Install Program Files, select the related “Click Here” option.
Chose the installation type from one of the four choices: Update an Existing
Installation, Stand Alone Workstation Installation, Network Server Installation, or
Network Client Installation.
If this is an upgrade, please choose the Update an existing installation.
If the software license file is not included on your CD of Micro Estimating, you will be
prompted for the location of “PROGRAM.LIC”. You should have received your license
file via email shortly after your order was confirmed. If you did not receive this license
file, contact Micro Estimating Support and it can be regenerated.
If you are installing an update, the program.lic file can be found in the
?\MSEWIN\PROGRAM\. Where the “?” is, is the drive letter that you have installed
Micro to previously. If the setup program is still prompting you to enter the path, make
sure you have included the backslash “\” at the end of the path
Confirm or change the drive and directory you wish to install the program files to. If you
wish to install to a network server for a multi-user installation or for data backup
purposes, select a mapped network drive and path. If you are installing on a nonnetworked computer, select a local drive and path. The default folder name of
“MSEWIN” is preferred for support reasons. If you are installing to a networked drive,
the drive on which the software is to be installed should be mapped to a drive letter and
that letter needs be the same for all workstations. Users must have all sharing and NTFS
access rights to the installation directory and all subdirectories of “Change” as a
minimum, however “Full Control” is recommended.
For installation on a Novell server, all files in the installation directory and its subdirectories must be flagged as read-write and shareable. This installation will take several
minutes.
Installing a network client
You will have to install network clients on each computer that will use the MSE software.
The network drive containing the program data must be mapped to the same drive letter
as the first work station before you begin each client installation. To install a workstation,
do the following:
• For a terminal server installation, login as the desired user before installing the client
and make sure the appropriate drive letter is mapped. Also make sure the user has a
unique HOME folder for the client installation path.
• Click Start|Run.
• Browse to the ?:\folder\PROGRAM folder (?:\folder is the location you installed the
program files to) and select the WSSETUP.EXE file. Click OPEN and then click OK to
begin the installation.
• You will be asked to confirm the location of the client files, this must be on the local
(C) drive, or for a terminal server installation, it should be within the HOME folder for
the user.
• Client files will be installed and a program group and icon will be created. A reboot
may be required after installation.
• Repeat this process for each workstation client on the network or for each user of the
Terminal Server.
If you will be running clients on a terminal server over a low bandwidth connection, you
may wish to turn off the splash screen to prevent the opening graphic from displaying. Do
this from the main screen under the Setup menu item, then Preferences, then under User
Settings, and then Display options.
• To Install AFR files, select the related “Click Here” option. (Only if you have the AFR
[Automatic Feature Recognition] option)
For 2d AFR install the ProCAM II option to use 2d cad formats for part dimensions. For
3d Solids AFR use the CAMworks Option. Follow the onscreen prompts during
installation. See the AFR section of the tutorial for more information on installing the
software for this option. These steps need to be repeated at each workstation. If you do
not have AFR, proceed to the next step.
•To Install Security Key Drivers, select the related “Click Here” option.
Your software package may include one or more security keys (USB or parallel port
style). There are two types of security keys, Workstation and Network. The Workstation
keys are labeled with an ID number starting with “R”. The Network keys are labeled with
an ID number starting with “S” (SuperProNet). Please note your key type, as it will
determine your key installation method. When the driver is installed, attach the key to the
printer or USB port.
If you have workstation keys (R), a key must be installed on the computer that will use
the software in “Engineering” mode. A key is not required on the computer that will use
the software in “Administrative” mode. If you have workstation keys, you will have to
install the security key driver on each workstation that will run in engineering mode.
Select the top option in the Install Security Drivers Menu. Follow the onscreen prompts
If you have a network key (S) a key must be installed only on the designated “Security
Server PC”. A Network key may be installed on any 32 bit Windows PC attached to the
network. You should not use a Client workstation computer as the network security
server. Note the computer chosen to be the “Security Server” must be turned on and
running the Security Server application, for workstations to use the network key. Select
the last option on the Install Security Driver screen. Follow the onscreen prompts then
restart the Sentinel Protection Service. See the Install Network Key section of the tutorial
for more information on installing the software for this option.
The “Security Server PC” must have either a static IP address assigned, or a DHCP
reservation assigned. You will need the IP address of the “Security Server PC” during
system setup / preferences.

Upon such termination, or if the License is terminated for any other reason whatsoever,
Customer shall immediately return to either Vendor or Owner the Software (including
any and all copies thereof), together with any other items supplied by either Vendor or
Owner to Customer pursuant to this Agreement.

This Agreement shall be construed and enforced in accordance with the laws of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in accordance with its fair meaning and not strictly for
or against any party, except to the extent that such law or laws may be preempted by
applicable federal law, including regulations, opinions, and duly issued orders, in which
event this Agreement shall be governed and interpreted by and under such federal law or
laws.
Any controversy or claim between Vendor and Customer, or between Owner and
Customer, arising out of or relating to this Agreement or the performance or breach
thereof, and any claims of negligence, gross negligence, fraud or misrepresentation
related thereto, but excluding actions by either Vendor or Owner for injunctive relief to
enforce Paragraph 3 hereof, shall be settled by binding arbitration in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania in accordance with the Commercial Arbitration Rules of the American
Arbitration Association, and judgment entered in any court having jurisdiction thereof.
All proceedings, the enforceability of any award, and all other matters pertaining to any
arbitration shall be governed by the Uniform Arbitration Act in force in the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or any applicable succeeding legislation.
Any action by either Vendor or Owner for injunctive relief to enforce Paragraph 3 hereof
may be filed in any court of competent jurisdiction within or without the Commonwealth
of Pennsylvania.
6. General.
This Agreement contains the complete and exclusive agreement between the parties with
respect to the subject matter hereof, supersedes any and all prior oral or written
communications, proposals and agreements and may not be waived or modified except
by written agreement of the parties. This Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Customer shall pay all reasonable attorney and other
professional fees and expenses incurred by either Vendor or Owner as a result of legal
actions taken against Customer by either Vendor or Owner as a result of any breach by
Customer of this Agreement. The paragraph headings in this Agreement are for
convenience only; they form no part of this Agreement and shall not affect its
interpretation. If any provision of this Agreement shall be held illegal, void, or
unenforceable, the remaining portions shall remain in full force and effect. No delay or
failure of either Vendor or Owner in exercising any right hereunder and no partial or
single exercise thereof by either Vendor or Owner shall be deemed to constitute a waiver
of such rights or another right hereunder. Customer's rights hereunder shall not be signed,
transferred or sublicensed, either voluntarily or involuntarily.
