Protection relay with
full PLC function
SEPCOS-NG is a high-tech equipment that satisfies the most demanding safety requirements applicable to DC electrical
power transmission networks.
SEPCOS-NG is a powerful electronic system based on several microprocessors. It is used as a protection and control unit
of an outgoing feeder cubicle or rectifier unit in DC traction SUBSTATION of public transport systems such as streetcars,
underground railway, commuter trains or trolley buses.
SEPCOS-PRO, integrated into SEPCOS-NG, development is based on the safety requirement of the railway standards EN
50126 / EN 50128 and EN 50129.
SEPCOS-NG is stand alone, modular, extending and easily adaptable by software. Moreover, it is widely opened to
modern communication equipment. It delivers network communication or serial line monitoring facilities.
Sécheron is the precursor and leader in the field of IEC 61850 adapted for DC applications and has already successfully commissioned several projects using this standard.

• A useful LED indicator helps to control each input/output status.

• Double settings: 2 sets of parameters can be memorized on the SEPCOS-NG. In case of failure of
a substation, settings of adjacents substations are adapted to the new characteristics of the line.

Modularity and adaptability are the key words of the SEPCOS-NG. We developed this protection and command relay with
the objective to get it as adaptable of the customer's needs as possible, and we did that successfully: the SEPCOS-NG
is indeed open to all customers Network and protocols:
• Power distribution protocols: IEC60870-5-104 (-5-101), DNP3.0, IEC61850
• TCP/IP: MODBUS-TCP
• Fieldbus: MODBUS-RTU
• Flexibility in connectivity: Copper cable (RS485, RJ45) or optical fiber.
SEPCOS-NG can be also adapted to your specific needs.

Applications
With many command and protection functions, SEPCOS-NG satisfies the needs of DC electric traction networks such as
outgoing feeder cubicle or rectifier unit.
SEPCOS-NG is used for monitoring traction network segments and for logging events.
It analyzes the current gradient and voltages through cyclic measurements at the supply point of the substation to the
catenary.
The measurements are made via electrically isolated transducer (for example the isolated amplifiers type MIU 10 or VM10
developed by Sécheron).

DDL + Delta T
If the value of the Delta t measured is higher than the
parameter Tmax and the value of Delta I measured is higher than the parameter Delta Imin, the function declares a
detection by DDL + Delta T and a tripping is initiated.

modular and user-friendly monitoring tool that collects the information
available from the SEPCOS.
It is including the modification of the
SEPCOS parameters (Setting protections, Command parameters,
etc.).

• Cable insulation fault detection
In DC traction application, power cables built with metal shields must be protected against high touch voltage. This protection must be active when a dangerous contact voltage or a high current appear on the shield in case of insulation fault.
The system is designed to detect a leak current either between shield and conductor or between shield and earth. If a
fault occurs, actuation of intertripping out signal can be selected. The settings for this function can be adjusted with the
SEPCOS-I software.
• Power and energy
This function calculates the energy transported by the feeder.
The value can be reset to zero or adjusted through its parameter.
Permanent monitoring of the voltage of the circuit breaker (Ul) and of the line current (Ul).
SEPCOS-I : Control and parametrization software
The software SEPCOS-I is the interface PC program to
configure and read the SEPCOS data.
This software allows in particular to:
• Modify the protection parameters and the command
parameters of the cubicle.
• Transfer on a PC the information recorded by the SEPCOS
• Download on a SEPCOS the information (parameters)
recorded in a PC
• Show at real time the analogical inputs value and detection
result.

Mechanical format
A big advantage of the SEPCOS-NG is its modularity:
• The position concerning the PC/104 fastenings and the connectors for the board complies with
the PC/104 specification.
• The boards are integrated in modules to make up an element of the SEPCOS-NG.
