SKIES FALL - SONG BY SONG
Skies Fall: The fast paced intro song, performed by Chris Boltendahl of Grave Digger and accompanied by Canatan and Jerry
Outlaw. It opens the story of Skies Fall and tells of the surprise of mankind facing agains the alien menace. The song is also
hinting the general approach of the album; a Savatage - Blind Guardian’ish power-prog metal with an oldschool touch.
No Response: The pace is sustained with No Response, performed by Oganalp Canatan on lead vocals and Jerry Outlaw on
solo guitars. Through Canatan’s raw vocals, the theme continues with mankind not being able to get in touch with the aliens.
Communications Breakdown: Zak Stevens (Savatage, Circle II Circle) takes the lead on Communications Breakdown. An up
tempo song with clever hooks and awesome guitar work of Jerry Outlaw in all 90’s Savatage spirit. The lyrical concept continues with the total silence of all communication networks around the globe.
Take No Prisoners: An aggressive piece, again being performed by Canatan and Outlaw. Canatan also throws in some solo
guitar work on this one, near to Jerry Outlaw. The song carries on the story with aliens not taking any prisoners and killing everyone on sight. The musical theme and aggressive guitars accompany the theme with their eeire feeling.
Hide and Seek: The song takes from where “Take No Prisoners” leaves and can be seen as a sequel. Performed by Canatan
and Outlaw, the tune carries on the story as humans try to hide away from their invaders, as they continue their destruction. An
up tempo, rhythm based song.
Those We’ve Left Behind: The album takes a break with this acoustic peace, performed by Hansi Kürsch of Blind Guardian. The song talks about the loved ones had to be left behind, hinting a touch of real-life struggles near to the storyline and
Kürsch’s voice delivers the feeling with finesse. The acoustic work of Canatan and Dreamtone & Iris Mavraki’s Neverland
guitarist Onur Özkoç is also worth “keeping an ear on”.
A Different Fate: A mid tempo track, increasing the pace once again with interesting piano use in Danny Elfman style. Canatan
takes the vocal lead once again as Jerry Outlaw continues to chop the way with his aggressive solos. The song carries the lyrical theme as mankind tries to change their fate.
The Resistance: A melodic mid tempo track with an epic side to it. As the lyrics hint, the mankind is on the way to their last
battle; an idea supported by the musical theme in accordance. “If you hear this, then you are the Resistance” lines are also hint
an awe to sci-fi series like The Terminator. The song is performed by Canatan on vocals and him sharing the solo work with
Jerry Outlaw, as he closes the track with his guitar work.
Demise of Hopes: Tim Ripper Owens takes the lead on this one as his aggressive screams adds a protesting flavor to the fall
of mankind. Guitars leave room to his vocals and then take the lead where Canatan and Outlaw play their way towards the end
of the track. “Instead of crying, you are trying to deny your end”. The line kinda sums the whole lyrical idea as the music leans
towards a darker path.
In Silence: The seven minutes long closing track of the album is like mix of all that Skies Fall has in it musically.
It is dark, full of guitar work accompanied by choirs and acoustic work with an epic ending to close the chapter of
Skies Fall. Lyrics hinting an admiration to masterpieces like Battlestar Galactica is the added cherry of the song.
