Obituary
It is with much sadness that the Editorial Board heard of the passing of Dr. Erich Schieferstein. A judge
by profession, he dedicated much of his time to beekeeping. He was Vice-President of the Executive Council
of Apimondia and long-time headed the German beekeeping association, Deutscher Imkerbund, which owns
the journal Apidologie together with INRA. The Editorial Board members appreciated his rigour and openmindedness during the annual meetings of the various people involved in the journal. Through his mandate
as DIB president, he always gave a strong support to Apidologie by putting forward to German beekeepers
the importance of an international scientific journal.

The Editorial Board
Mit großem Bedauern hat die Redaktion die traurige Nachricht vom Tod Dr. Erich Schiefersteins
aufgenommen. Obwohl er als Richter beruflich stark eingespannt war, widmete er dennoch einen großen
Teil seiner Zeit der Bienenhaltung. Er war Vizepräsident des Exekutivrats der Apimondia. Über lange Zeit
stand er als Präsident dem Deutschen Imkerbund vor, der zusammen mit INRA Eigentümer der Apidologie
ist. In den jährlichen Treffen der mit dem Journal befassten Personen haben die Redaktionsmitglieder seine
straffe aber dennoch Argumenten stets zugängliche Art außerordentlich geschätzt. In seiner Stellung als
Präsident des DIB unterstützte er die Apidologie nachdrücklich und vermittelte den deutschen Imkern den
hohen Nutzen einer internationalen wissenschaftlichen Zeitschrift.
Wir sind ihm zu großen Dank verpflichtet.
Der Redaktionsausschuss
Le Comité de rédaction a appris avec une grande tristesse le décès du Dr. Erich Schieferstein. Juge de
renom il consacra une bonne partie de son temps à l’apiculture. Il fut en effet Vice-président du Comité
exécutif d’Apimondia et occupa durant de longues années le poste de président du Deutscher Imkerbund,
l’association des apiculteurs allemands, co-propriétaire avec l’INRA de la revue Apidologie. C’est lors des
réunions annuelles, qui rassemblaient les divers acteurs de la revue, que les membres du Comité de rédaction
ont pu apprécié sa rigueur et son ouverture d’esprit. Durant son mandat de président il a toujours apporté
un soutien efficace à Apidologie en faisant valoir auprès des apiculteurs allemands l’importance d’avoir une
revue scientifique internationale.
Nous lui en sommes reconnaissants.
