KDec-Protokolls. Ältere Variante: 3-stellige Kameranummer (z. B. SN001S+), feste Geschwindigkeiten (...S+), andere Festpositionskommandos (SNkkk.pp, PPkkk.pp, pp zweistellig) Neuere Variante: Beliebige Stellenzahl für alle numerischen Angaben (z. Adresseinstellung am Decoder: Kameranummer (= ccc im MBegProtokoll) Zugehörige Schalterstellung im Decoder S1.1 bis S1.6 Decoderadresse 1 on - on - on - on - on - on 0 2 off - on - on - on - on - on 1 etc. bis ... Baudrate Schalter im Decoder S1.7 / S1.8 Maximal gleichzeitig aktivierbare Decoder 1200 Bd on / on 1 9600 Bd off / on 7 19200 Bd on / off 5 38400 Bd - wird nicht unterstützt unbekannt off / off wird nicht unterstützt Hinweis: Kommandos werden im 10 ms-Zeitraster wiederholt. • Programmieren (Program & Verify) • Neustart des ProCons durch Trennen von der Spannungsversorgung 15 16 6 Introduction ProCon is a protocol converter that translates the control commands of Geutebrück pan/tilt systems (KDec, ARGUS) into control commands for pan/tilt and dome systems of other manufacturers. Alongside a transparent operating mode, the following protocols were supported in its first version: - Pelco ‘D’ - JVC TK-C675 and TK-C675B (TK-C676 and others) - Thomson/Thales The support of additional protocols is planned. The hardware consists of one device that receives the control commands in KDec format via an RS-232 port, translates them into the foreign format and then transmits them over an RS-232, RS422 or RS-485 port. First and foremost, the commands are translated or supported that have the same or similar meaning in the Geutebrück system and the foreign system. These typically include the pan and tilt functions with variable speeds, including the programming and the specification of fixed positions as well as control of the lens. However, sometimes other types of commands are used in order to access functions in the foreign system that have not been considered in the command set or user interface of the Geutebrück systems. 7 Specifications Dimensions 100 x 100 x 25 mm³ (W x D x H) Connections Power supply: Low-voltage plug connector DIN 45323 Input port A: RS-232, 9-pin Sub-D socket Output ports B: RS-232, 9-pin Sub-D plug RS-422/RS-485, 9-pin Sub-D socket Settings Port configuration A (baud rate, MBeg-Mode service) Selection of the target protocol Protocol variants (for example, baud rate) Display 16-digit text display of various messages (firmware version, settings, error messages) LEDs Operating voltage display and display of the status of the signal lines of the RS-232 port A Power supply 8 – 12 V DC, approx. 100 mA 17 8 Connection 8.1 Power Supply Power is supplied using a separate mains unit with a DIN 45323 lowvoltage plug (see adjacent lay-out). 8.2 RS-232 Port A to Command Input The RS-232 port A is the input for the commands in MBeg or KDec format. Pin layout: DCE (data communications equipment). Connectio n 5 9 4 8 3 7 2 6 1 Signal Ground DTR (connected with CD and DSR) CtS (output) TxD (input) RtS (input) RxD (output) DSR (connected with DTR and CD) Cd (connected with DTR and DSR) View of exterior of the socket. The ProCon transmits a hardware handshake signal over CtS. To connect the ProCon with the RS-232 port of a PC, a 1:1 extension cable is required. A cable with ground (5) and crossed TxD and RxD connection (2, 3) is required to connect the ProCon with the RS-232 port of an MBeg/GCT. 8.3 RS-232 and RS-422/RS-485 B Ports for Command Output The RS-232 and RS-422/RS-485 B ports are outputs for the commands in the foreign format. The pan/tilt system is connected to one of the two ports. Tip: In general pan/tilt systems are operated in simplex operation on the RS-422 port. For this the following settings should be chosen: - Switch for the options of the target protocol: Position 0 – 7 (RS-422/RS-485) - Jumper: position FDx - Schematics for connecting B ports can be found in Section 3.3.2.1. RS-232: According to its specification, the RS-232 port (as opposed to the RS-422/RS-485 ports), does not allow connection to more than two end devices (transmitter and receiver). In addition, the cable length is limited to 15 m. In practice, however, with the typical operation mode using only one transmission line (simplex), both connecting more than two devices and using longer cables are possible. Nonetheless, in such cases we do not recommend using the RS-232 as no definitive limit above 15 m can be specified that can guarantee secure function. RS-422: The signal transmission is symmetrical for the RS-422 port, allowing significantly longer ranges to be achieved. Cable lengths of up to 1200 m are permissible. 18 In simplex operation (Sx) there are a transmitter (the ProCon) and a receiver (the pan/tilt system). Data is not transmitted in the opposite direction. This would require two cables. In full duplex operation (FDx, where both connected devices can simultaneously transmit and receive) 4 cables are required. According to its specifications, the RS-422 port can accommodate the connection of multiple receivers on one line. This means that data can be transmitted to the devices, but not in the opposite direction (simplex operation Sx). This also requires two cables. For all currently realized protocols or protocol options this operating mode is used. RS-485: As with the RS-422 port, the signal transmission is symmetrical with the RS-485, allowing longer ranges of up to 1200 m. The RS-485 port is a bus system, which allows for multiple devices to be connected simultaneously, if all devices can send on the same line (temporally separated, half duplex, HDx). For this operating mode two cables are required. Currently no realized protocol or protocol option utilizes this operating mode, however with the ProCop in transparent mode, a conversion from full duplex to half duplex can be carried out. There is a combination of the RS-422 and RS-485 ports when a ‘master’ on one line is the sole transmitter for multiple devices (‘slaves’) and these slaves can transmit their responses to the master, temporally separated, on another line. The transmission line of the master corresponds to the RS-422 standard and the response line to the RS-485 standard. Because master and (max. one) slave can transmit and receive simultaneously, we have in this case a full duplex operating mode. The Geutebrück Argus system, among others, uses this operating mode (as do other Geutebrück devices). ProCon also supports them as master or slave, although it is not currently used by any protocol. The selection between the RS-422/RS-485 port and the RS-232 port is made with the switch for the protocol variants: Position 0 – 7: RS-422/RS-485 Position 8 – F: RS-232 The selection between the RS-422 (FDx) and RS-485 (HDx) is made with the jumpers FDx/HDx. The transmitted signals are always transmitted over both ports; the switch position is only relevant when the ProCon also receives transmissions from the connected devices. For most (currently all) protocols this is not the case, meaning that the selection of the port is not relevant. This is not true for transparent operation, where the signals are passed through unchanged in both directions (aside from the baud rate). 19 8.3.1 RS-232 B Port Pin lay-out: DTE (data terminal equipment). Var.’ selected protocol variant When changing the switch positions, the new settings are also displayed. 9.1 Setting ‘Port A’ 9.1.1 Baud Rate 8 different baud rates can be selected. Baud rates: 0/8: 1200 Bd 1/9: 2400 Bd 2/A: 4800 Bd 3/B: 9600 Bd 4/C: 19200 Bd 5/D: 38400 Bd 6/E: 57600 Bd 7/F: 115200 Bd 9.1.2 ‘MBeg Service’ Mode The typical data backup in the MBeg/KDec protocol can be deactivated: Settings: 0 - 7: ‘MBeg Service’ Mode No rejection of individual characters 8 – F: Normal operation (characters that are not quickly followed by others are rejected) 9.1.3 MBeg/KDec Protocols The protocol converter can work with older and newer variants of the MBeg and KDec protocol. Older variants: 3-digit camera number (for instance, SN001S+), fixed speeds (...S+), other fixed position commands (SNkkk.pp, PPkkk.pp, pp two-digit) Newer variants: Any number of digits for all numerical entries (for instance, SN1S+), fixed and variable speeds (…S+vvv), new fixed position commands (SN1GPpp, SN1SPpp) All commands that the converter, as it is set up, understands and can in any way implement in a command of the target protocol are briefly displayed. 9.2 Setting ‘Convert’ Here the two currently realized protocols can be selected. In addition, there is also the transparent mode. 9.2.1 Transparent Mode (Switch Position ‘Convert’ = 0) In the transparent mode the characters from port A are passed through unchanged to port B. • In normal operation (switch ‘port A’ in position 0 – 7), all characters are rejected for which MSBit is not 0 (7 data bits, parity space). In this case, an error message is also displayed. Additionally, the character linefeed is rejected. Individual (with relation to time) characters are not, however, rejected. • For the setting ‘MBeg service’ (switch ‘port A’ in position 8 – F), no characters are rejected. All characters with 8 data bits and a stop bit are sent through. 22 With the transparent setting a baud rate conversion can be made. A conversion from full duplex to half duplex is also possible, without it being necessary for the host at port A to take on the data flow control. 9.2.2 Protocol ‘Pelco D’ Possible protocol variants: 2400 Bd, 4800 Bd, 9600 Bd, 19200 Bd The conversion is only carried out in the direction of transmission. The ‘RS-422’ simplex connection is sufficient. Characters that may be received from the connected head or dome are ignored. Up to 32 dome or pan/tilt systems can be addressed on one line (over a ProCon). SNcccP1 All Toggles the autoflip mode 26 9.2.4 Protocol ‘Thomson/Thales’ Possible protocol variants: 1200 Bd, 9600 Bd, 19200 Bd, 38400 Bd. This protocol conversion was tested on two RC11001 decoders that were each equipped with 8 relays (2 x pan, 2 x tilt and aux 1 to aux 4) and 2 analog outputs for focus and zoom. The firmware versions of the decoders were V 3.0 and V 3.2. The conversion is only carried out in the direction of transmission. The ‘RS-422’ simplex connection is sufficient. Any characters received from the connector decoder were ignored. Camera number and decoder addresses: Up to 63 decoders can be individually addressed on one line (using a ProCon) with the camera numbers 1 to 63. With the camera number 64 all connected decoders are addressed. Address settings on the decoder: Camera Number (= ccc in MBeg Protocol) Corresponding Switch Position in the Decoder S1/1 to S1.6 Decoder Address 1 on - on - on - on - on - on 0 2 off - on - on - on - on - on 1 etc. to ... ... 63 off - on - off - off - off - off 62 64 The switch position does not matter, every decoder is addressed Maximum decoders that can be activated simultaneously: The Thomson/Thales protocol does not use start and stop commands. Instead the activation information must be continually sent at certain intervals during the activation of the functions pan, tilt, focus, zoom and iris. Additionally, the transmission bandwidth is limited over the RS-422 port. These factors mean that the number of decoders that can be activated simultaneously is also limited. It does not matter how many functions per decoder are activated simultaneously. If more than this number of decoders are activated simultaneously, then all decoders will react with a fluttering of the activated relays. This limitation is comparable to a limited number of available transmission channels. Baud Rate Switch in the Decoder S1.7 / S1.8 Maximum Decoders that can be Activated Simultaneously: 1200 Bd on / on 1 9600 Bd off / on 7 19200 Bd on / off 5 38400 Bd - Not supported Unknown off / off Not supported Tip: Commands are repeated in the 10 ms time period. For 9600 Bd and fewer, the duration of a command is larger than the time period and commands can be made one after another with no temporal gaps. Unexpected behavior of the decoder did not occur during the test, however this cannot be ruled out in practice. For this reason operation with 19200 Bd is recommended. 27 Time limitation of the control functions: 2 minutes after the decoder is addressed for the last time from any executable command, all running commands for this decoder are stopped so that the transmission channel can be freed up again. ProCon recognizes the commands ‘RESTART’ and ‘DOWNLOAD’ in every operation mode (including transparent mode!). If the command ‘DOWNLOAD’ is received, the ProCon switches to the Atmel bootloader mode, so that the firmware can be programmed with the T89Loader. However, a watchdog normally runs in the ProCon and it is no longer served when the Atmel bootloader is called, causing a reset of the ProCon firmware. In order to download the firmware, the watchdog is started roughly one minute after the start of the firmware, so that the download can only be initiated in this time frame. It begins each time that the ProCon is turned on or when the watchdog causes a reset, for instance as a result of a download or restart command. When the download command is started again within this first minute, it cannot be disturbed by the watchdog.
