It is one of the greenest cities in France. Founded in 1969, it is a comprehensive university offering nearly 300 programs leading to national diplomas in fine arts, literature, languages, social sciences, law, economics, business administration, political sciences, sports, health and science & technology. A valid identity card or passport is sufficient. European Economic Area: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Czech Republic, The United Kingdom. You are not a European Economic Area citizen: you will have to apply for a student visa before arriving in France. Contact the French Embassy or French Consulate in your country. Please note that obtaining a long stay visa can take several weeks or months. Your visa cannot be modified in France. Please make sure you obtain your french long stay student visa of more than 3 months before you leave your country (no tourist visa). You must contact the competent authorities in your country: ministry, universities… before applying. Campus France, the French agency for promotion of French Higher Education abroad, lists all fundings available for foreign students. Opening a French bank account Opening an account in a French bank can be done easily and quickly. We recommend it! European Students All international students will need to provide a proof of liability insurance to get their student card. Students covered by their home country’s social security should obtain the European Health Insurance Card from their social security service provider before coming to France. This card (EHIC) must be valid for the duration of the stay in France. Non European students or European students living outside Europe. There are two organisations that govern student social security (compulsory) and mutual insurance (optional). COST: 215€ per year. For more information, please visit the International Office. 29 Studying AT JEAN MONNET 30 •Organisation and structure of studies Organisation and structure of studies Courses offered at Jean Monnet University are based upon the European Credit Transfert System (ECTS). According to this system, a full-time student will obtain 60 credits for an academic year. Those credits can be transferred within France and Europe. Those courses follow the Bachelor-Masters-PhD format. It hosts about 300 students of many different nationalities. The CILEC is welcoming you all year round, from September to August included, both during the academic year and summer. We offer extensive or intensive classes, from 2 hours to 20 hours a week, according to your availability.
