Like a bird
Networking Ingeborg Pock Like a Bird………. No, not „ the bird on the wire“, but the bird as a representative for other creatures, including men, to construct shelters right There, on the spot, out in nature itself. Most birds build nests, construct their own Space to give protection to their next generation, using natural material, fibres, feathers etc. Maybe men were watching them, when they themselves started to weave and braid fences, later walls for shelters, that even might have given them the idea to build tentlike constructions or huts. The root for many words in the textile world is the Latin word “Texere”, meaning weaving, braiding. These very basic textile methods like weaving, etc. made the development of elaborate methods in textile development and industrial productions in all branches possible. But most important, textile methods helped early mankind to create spaces out in the wide open spaces of nature. Natural fibers, like grass or young branches of bushes and trees, the forerunners of spun fibers, were used as basic building material in prehistoric times. Starting in the early 60ties of the 20th century artists left traditional reproductive techniques and incorporated nature into their repertoire of art work, installing the representatives of their ideas and ideals in terms that were defined as Land Art. In this way you too are now challenged to conquer the open space around the building of the Pedagogical Center Graz-Eggenberg, to even expand it by trying to construct your own new artificial spaceusing textile material in joined action. Wie ein Vogel…….. Nein. Schafft euch gemeinsam euren künstlich/kunstvollen Raum. Wie die Vögel …. Viel Freude!
