News from your local Gaelic Football and Hurling Club
What happened in the last few weeks ?
Rain, rain and third place!
For this second leg of the French Championship, girls went to Bordeaux with a big team (12 ladies) to confirm
their good first tournament in Paris and try to access again the final … for a victory this time!
Under a typical Irish weather, day began well with an easy victory against Paris / Bx B!
But the next game against Niort was the turn of the day : this draw (3-2 / 2-5) won’t qualify the Gaelettes for the
final, despite of 2 others victories against Paris / Bx A and Clermont, and a defeat against Rennes!
And the most maddening is that they beat in pool Paris / Bx A easily (0-3 / 2-5), team who lost in final against
Rennes!
But anyway, well done ladies and don’t forget that the season is not finished : a friendly game against Clermont

on the 14 of May and the French finals in Clermont on the 11 of June are still to play … and to win!

A Lyon ça souffle … mais ça gagne !!
Trois semaines après notre déplacement victorieux à Provence, c’est à Lyon que nous nous rendons pour
essayer de confirmer ce bon début de saison et se rapprocher, déjà, des finales de Clermont !
Après un court trajet de 5h (remember Galicia !), nous arrivons au compte-goutte dans notre 4 étoiles préférés et
prenons congés dans nos chambres spacieuses et insonorisées pour un repos bien mérité avant les combats du
lendemain!
Dès les premières heures de la journée, l’adversaire certainement le plus coriace pointe son nez : le vent !
Mais cela ne nous empêche pas de débuter de la meilleure des façons, par une victoire contre les organisateurs
du jour lyonnais.
Puis c’est au tour de l’équipe d’un ancien « mushroom » de tenter de prendre sa revanche (victoire contre Azur
au tournoi de Provence). Mais malheureusement pour Chard, ce ne sera pas pour cette fois ! A noter dans ce
match la participation de Mike en tant que goalkeeper (et déjà la fin du clean sheet sur la journée, merci Mike !)
ainsi que le premier point en match officiel depuis 3 ans du « keeper » habituel, Tom! Sans oublier les deux buts
de Peb … match historique je vous dis!!
Nous arrivons donc confiant pour affronter les clermontois dans le 3ième match du jour mais, après un match
rude et un brin conflictuel, nous perdons d’un point. Cette défaite, sans pour autant affecter notre bonne humeur
de la journée, est la première (en match officiel) depuis juin 2015 et l’entrée catastrophique contre Liffré aux
finales du championnat de France … dont tout le monde connaît l’heureux dénouement .
Le dernier match de poule contre Lille est pris avec sérieux et c’est logiquement que nous nous qualifions pour la
finale et que nous y retrouvons nos bourreaux du jour.
Pour cette finale, accessoirement le dernier match d’Alan (jusqu’au prochain quoi), les consignes étaient
simples : tout donner, se faire plaisir et ramener un nouveaux trophée à la maison…BINGO!!
Match âpre, rugueux, avec de nombreux rebondissements (dont un point d’anthologie de Conor D). Bref, parfait
pour clôturer cette belle journée et laisser la fête prendre le dessus pour une soirée arrosée, dans les deux sens
du terme !!

Un toulousain appelé en équipe de France !
C’est une première que le club de Toulouse attendait depuis sa saison 2015 extraordinaire!
Bon ok le joueur nommé n’était pas là l’an dernier mais c’est pas grave 
Quelques réactions à chaud de l’heureux élu…
Quel a été ton premier sentiment quand tu as appris ta sélection pour la pré-selection ?
Mon premier sentiment a été l'étonnement, car je n'avais jamais vu le coach de l'équipe de France et je
me demandais bien où il avait pu me voir jouer ! J'étais particulièrement joyeux de recevoir ce mail, je me
suis dit que ce stage avec l'équipe de France serait une merveilleuse expérience avec beaucoup à
apprendre. Je me suis promis d'en profiter un maximum !
Si tu es du voyage en Irlande, penses-tu gagner le tournoi ? Être élu MVP ?
Je reviens juste d'un tournoi à Lyon où les arbitres ont été très durs à convaincre et mes économies sont
bloquées sur un compte au Panama (That money was just resting in my account), donc rien n'est moins
sur pour le titre de MVP du mondial... Cela dit, ce ne devrait pas être génant pour le titre final. Une
rumeur circule comme quoi le sélectionneur se serait rapprocher de Zidane pour tirer les 45m et Henry
qui est très fort balle en main...

Tolosa Gaels awards in the Thirsty Monk

On the 30 of March, most of the Gaels & Gaelettes were in the Thisrty Monk to celebrate their first
tournament of the season and to vote for the MVP (in Paris for the ladies and in Provence for the lads).
We also formalized the new sponsorship of the pub.
So a huge thank you to the pub and congrats to Conor D and Elaine who won the MVP title!
Superbru Euro 2016
In one month (38 days exactly), the Euro 2016 will begin in France. To celebrate it and as a fundraising, the
club will organize a Superbru competition!
So good luck to everyone and a huge thanks for your participation.

Rio Loco 2016
Do you know the Rio Loco festival? If not, you have to!
It’s 5 days of music at La prairie des Filtres and the theme this year is Celtic.
And more important for us, we will participate in that festival by holding a stand to show / explain people what
is Football Gaelique (and also Hurling) and how it is played (with demonstrations).
So if anyone wants to be involved in that, you are more than welcome!

Gary, what's your favourite memory of your time with Tolosa
Gaels?
That's a tough one, I dunno if I could only choose one. Going back
to the early days, I really enjoyed my partnership up front with
Eddie Kelly. We'd a great understanding of each other, probably
due to the fact that we'd share the odd beer at the post tournament
parties, or dance the night away in Shanghai.
What is your favourite tournament destination?
That's an easy one there, has to be Clermont Ferrand, it's just got
so much to offer in terms of history, bars and restaurants in the city
centre, lovely people and most importantly for a man like myself
who likes to boogie, some quality night clubs. Clermont will always
have a special place in my heart.
Is there any match in particular that stands out in your
memory?
I'd have to say the match against Nantes at the finals in Guerande
last June. The lads had a tough opening game against Liffré and
spirits were low, so I was only dying for a chance to get on the field
to calm things down a bit and help lift their heads. We came away
with a resounding victory and I like to think I had a big part to play
in that.
Finally, what do you like to do in your spare time outside of
club activities?
Ah you know yourself, nothing too fancy, I'm a man of simple
tastes, a few brandies here and there, the odd chicken curry, a
decent pint of blanche. I've been getting into squash in the last
while, I'm still trying to get the basics down but I've a good playing

