And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof thru the night that our flag was still there. Oh say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave O’er the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave. This day is to commemorate the first immigrants from Germany and to pay tribute to every immigrant who has arrived on these shores since. It is to remind us how deeply our two countries’ cultures are intertwined and what role German immigrants have played in shaping this nation over the centuries. This is a day to say Thanks for how we have been received and accomodated by this nation, for how we have been allowed to grow and prosper and make our own way. To highlight this special occasion, the program will include some reflective historical comments and musical entertainment.
