The festival Press release June 3rd, 2016 always starts on the first day of summer on June 21st and it is celebrated worldwide. Berlin is a participant since 1995. Now the Fête de la Musique in Berlin Always on the first day of Summer program is online at www.fetedelamusique.de. Tuesday, June 21st 2016 FeteBerlin annually unites both professional and amateur musicians, amplified or unplugged music, classic or pop, offering boundless sounds yet to be discovered. The event kicks off at 4pm on the longest day of the year and the entire city will celebrate music both indoors and outdoors at about 100 stage locations. At 10pm the celebration continues at seven different indoor locations (Fête de la Nuit). Program Highlights: Each year the collective Berliner Posaunenchöre welcome the summer starting at 4:30pm with their horns at tower tops at nine different locations between Lankwitz and Karow. The premiere of the film „MUSIKA“ by Ruth Biller will be screened at the rk- galerie für zeitgenössische Kunst. In addition, this event will feature a live performance of the musicians involved in the project. Fête de la Musique was brought to life in 1982 in France in order to allow the large number of music-making people in the country to become both audible and visual for a few hours. Today Fête de la Musique is celebrated worldwide in 540 cities in 106 countries - in Germany alone more than 50 cities and townships participate. All follow the same rules and guidelines: Fête de la Musique always takes place on June 21st, it is free and the musicians perform without a fee. The festival is non-commercial, it takes in no revenue and it has no artistic director, it is based on citizen participation. Some provide a venue, others perform in the wide open with an audience strolling through the city to listen, dance and celebrate. All are invited to fill the streets with their own sounds. Thanks to a special permit all may perform unplugged/unamplified music throughout the city of Berlin on June 21st from 4pm to 10pm. This is allowed on public streets and squares, provided this does not disturb institutions such as hospitals, churches, schools or memorials. Electronically amplified music is only allowed to registered platforms and locations. The German capital has been celebrating Fête de la Musique every year since 1995, and tens of thousands of people flock to make a musical discovery tour throughout the city. The festival is organized by Simone Hofmann / Fête Company, and is 100% funded through public spending. Thanks to the financial support (75%) provided by the German Lottery Foundation Berlin Fête de la Musique will also take place in 2017. (Press release is subject to change) 2/2
