The latest cat novel by Andrea Schacht, the elegant mistress
of the historical novel.
The Scottish Highlands in 1744.A bitter clan feud comes to a
bloody end. Even the palace cat MacTiger is treacherously
killed.
The only survivors of the massacre are a nanny and her
charge, little Mary McIain. They both flee from the ruined
building, abandoning MacTiger, the poor feline soul – now
damned to walk the grounds in loneliness. He won't be freed
from his ghostly interim life until a human being sees and
lovingly caresses him. But this wish remains unfulfilled for
centuries.
Not until a resourceful businessman converts the old palace
into a hotel does MacTiger sense his opportunity. Before long,
word gets around that the hotel rooms are haunted. Young
Margita immediately feels the presence of the palace ghost,
and the more old stories she collects, the nearer she gets to
MacTiger. The old cat helps Margita solve a case of fraud
which by now has been keeping the hotel staff on their toes.
In exchange for this, MacTiger is released from his centuriesold existence as a ghost. But the cat's spirit returns, in the
form of a little kitten …
