EFFICIENCY EXPERT SCHAFFT MEHRWERTE
Der Begriff der Automation geht zurück auf
das antike Griechenland. Man verehrte die
αυτοματια [automatia], die von selbst kommende, und weihte ihr Kapellen.
Im Jahr 1745 erfand der englische Schmied
Edmund Lee eine frühe Vorrichtung zur Automatisierung, durch die sich Windmühlen
selbstständig in den Wind drehen. Nach Aufzeichnungen aus dem Altertum gab es bereits
damals Maschinen, die durch ein Windrad
angetrieben wurden und Arbeit übernahmen,
die vorher von Menschen oder Tieren ausgeführt worden war. Im Mittelalter ging man
dazu über, Windmühlen so zu bauen, dass
man sie um eine senkrechte Achse drehen
konnte. Durch die Erfindung von Lee, ein
zusätzliches Windrad mit Getriebe, reagierte
die Maschine dann selbstständig so auf Änderungen der Windrichtung, wie es zur Erfüllung
ihrer Aufgabe erforderlich war. 1787 setzte
Edmond Cartwright erstmals automatische
Webmaschinen ein, die von ihm selbst entwickelten Power Looms. Sie waren die ersten
automatischen Maschinen für die industrielle Produktion. SUHNER AUTOMATION AG

Keinesfalls sollen Arbeitsplätze vernichtet werden – vielmehr geht es darum Kapazitäten zu
erhöhen und um die Entlastung des Menschen
von schwerer körperlicher oder monotoner
Arbeit, letztere sollen reduziert und abgenommen werden, mit dem Effekt neue kreative und
interessante Aufgaben zu fördern.
EFFICIENCY EXPERT CREATES ADDED VALUE
The word “automation” has its roots in
ancient Greece. There, the people worshipped
αυτοματια (Automatia), the Self-Animate, at
shrines dedicated to her.
In 1745, the English blacksmith Edmund Lee
invented the earliest automating device, an
actuator that turned the blades of windmills
into the wind. According to records dating
back to antiquity, there were machines even in
those times that were powered by wind driven
wheels performing the work of people or animals. The Middle Ages witnessed the building of windmills that could be turned around
a vertical axis. Lee’s invention, an additional
wind driven wheel connected to gears, could
self-align the blades into the wind direction,
thus responding to every change, which greatly helped to maximize windmill efficiency.
IIn 1787, Edmond Cartwright developed and
introduced the first automatic textile machines
with so called power looms. They were the first
automated machines for industrial production.
SUHNER AUTOMATION AG creates added

uct quality. These are not intended to eliminate jobs. On the contrary, they are intended
to raise capacities and lighten the burden on
human operators, who otherwise would be
faced with strenuous physical or monotonous
work. Eliminating the latter helps to promote
new, creative, and interesting challenges.
EFFICIENCY EXPERT CRÉE DE LA VALEUR AJOUTÉE
Le terme automatisme est issu de la Grèce
antique. On y adorait la αυτοματια [automatia], celle qui venait d’elle-même et on lui
consacrait des chapelles.
En 1945, le forgeron anglais Edmund Lee
inventa un dispositif précoce d’automatisation qui permettait aux moulins à vent de se
tourner automatiquement dans la direction du
vent. D’après des dessins issus de l’Antiquité,
il y avait en ce temps-là déjà des machines
qui étaient entraînées par des éoliennes et
prenaient en charge le travail exécuté auparavant par les personnes et les animaux. Au
Moyen-Âge, on se mit à construire des moulins qu’on pouvait tourner autour d’un axe vertical. Grâce à l’invention de Lee, une éolienne
supplémentaire avec engrenage, la machine
réagit ensuite de façon autonome aux changements de direction du vent afin d’exécuter
sa tâche. En 1787, Edmond Cartwright utilisa
pour la première fois des machines à tisser
automatiques, les Power Looms qu’il avait luimême développé. Elles furent les premières
machines automatiques destinées à la production industrielle. SUHNER AUTOMATION
