Bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung
In das Produkt kann eine 2.5"-IDE-Festplatte eingebaut werden; der Betrieb ist über eine USBSchnittstelle (USB2.0/1.1) möglich. Die Stromversorgung erfolgt über USB.

Partitionieren und Formatieren
Wenn Sie im externen Gehäuse eine unformatierte "neue" IDE-Festplatte eingebaut haben, so
ist die Festplatte vor der Verwendung zu partitionieren.
Bei Windows 98/98SE/ME starten Sie die "MS-DOS-Eingabeaufforderung" (z.B. unter
Start/Programme/Zubehör zu finden).
Falls eine Meldung erscheint "...Größe der Festplatte übersteigt 512MB...", so bestätigen Sie
sie mit "J".
Wählen Sie "5. Aktuelle Festplatte wechseln", wählen Sie die neue Festplatte aus. Legen Sie
dann über den Menüpunkt "1." eine neue Partition an.
Ältere FDISK-Versionen haben Probleme bei der Erkennung von Festplatten, die größer als ca.
64GByte sind. Die Kapazität wird falsch angezeigt. Ignorieren Sie die falsche Anzeige und fahren Sie in der Partitionierung fort. Sollen mehrere Partitionen angelegt werden, so kann es bei
älteren FDISK-Versionen in Verbindung mit Festplatten größer 64GByte dazu kommen, dass
die Partitionsgröße per "Prozent"-Angabe erfolgen muss (die Eingabe von z.B. "5000" für
5000MByte/5GByte funktioniert nicht!). Geben Sie einfach "10%" ein, um bei einer 80GByteFestplatte eine 8GByte-Partition zu erzeugen.
Anschließend ist ein Neustart von Windows erforderlich.
Nach dem Neustart können Sie die Festplatte bzw. die einzelnen Partitionen im WindowsDatei-Explorer formatieren (richtige Festplatte/Partition auswählen, formatieren Sie keine
Festplatte/Partition mit wichtigen Daten!). Oder Sie können erneut die MS-DOSEingabeaufforderung starten und die Festplatte/Partition mit dem MS-DOS-Befehl "Format"
formatieren.

Einbau einer 2.5"-IDE-Festplatte
Öffnen Sie das Gehäuse. Entfernen Sie dazu die Kunststoffblende mit den Schnittstellen-Öffnungen, indem Sie die zugehörigen kleinen Schrauben herausdrehen. Ein passender MiniSchraubendreher ist im Lieferumfang.
Kontrollieren Sie ggf. die Master-/Slave-Einstellung der 2.5"-Festplatte, die Festplatte muss
auf "Master" eingestellt sein (bei allen "fabrikneuen" 2.5"-Festplatten der Fall).
Stecken Sie die 2.5"-Festplatte an den 44poligen Anschluss der Platine auf.
Nur eine Orientierung ist korrekt, die Festplatte mit dem angesteckten
Schnittstellenkonverter/Rückseite muss sich in das Alu-Gehäuse einschieben lassen, der breite Stecker darf nicht versetzt auf die Stiftleisten der Festplatte aufgesteckt werden!
Schieben Sie die Platine mit der Festplatte zurück in das Gehäuse. Nur eine Orientierung ist
korrekt, die Blende auf der Rückseite muss sich leicht aufstecken lassen, wenden Sie keine
Gewalt an!
Zum Abschluss schrauben Sie die Rückseite wieder am Gehäuse fest.
Treiber-Installation
Bei Windows ME/XP ist keine Treiber-Installation erforderlich. Die benötigten Treiber sind in
Windows enthalten. Schließen Sie einfach das externe Gehäuse an den PC an, siehe unten.
Bei Windows 98/98SE legen Sie die mitgelieferte Treiber-CD in das entsprechende Laufwerk
des PCs ein. Sollte das Installationsprogramm nicht automatisch starten, so führen Sie das
Programm "Autorun.exe" im Hauptverzeichnis der CD aus (Dateiname/Vorgehensweise könnte sich bei neueren Versionen der Treiber-CD evtl. ändern).
Anschluss an den PC
Zum Anschluss muss ein USB-Port verwendet werden, der über eine eigene Stromversorgung
verfügt (USB-Port des Mainboards bzw. eines USB-Hubs mit eigenem Netzteil). Solche USBPorts ("High-Power-USB-Ports") können nach dem USB-Standard einen Strom von je maximal
500mA liefern.
Eine aktuelle moderne 2.5"-IDE-Festplatte benötigt jedoch einen Strom von meist etwa
900mA (0.9A).

Handhabung
Vermeiden Sie folgende widrige Umgebungsbedingungen am Aufstellungsort oder beim
Transport:
- Nässe oder zu hohe Luftfeuchtigkeit
- Extreme Kälte oder Hitze, direkte Sonneneinstrahlung
- Staub oder brennbare Gase, Dämpfe oder Lösungsmittel
- starke Vibrationen, Stöße, Schläge
- starke Magnetfelder, wie in der Nähe von Maschinen oder Lautsprechern
Achten Sie beim Aufstellen des Produkts darauf, dass die Kabel nicht geknickt oder gequetscht
werden!
Reinigung
Zur Reinigung des Produkts reicht ein sauberes, trockenes, weiches Tuch.
Tipps & Hinweise
• USB-Geräte erlauben das Ein- und Ausstecken während dem Betrieb.
Sie sollten dabei aber beachten, dass evtl. Dateien beschädigt werden könnten, wenn Sie
beim Laden/Speichern das Verbindungskabel herausziehen.
Bei Windows ME/XP erscheint ein Pfeil-Symbol in der Menüleiste, über das man Windows
anweisen kann, das USB-Gerät zu "trennen". Dabei werden die Datenübertragungen beendet und offene Dateien geschlossen. Danach kann man das Verbindungskabel gefahrlos
abstecken.
• Bei USB2.0 sind (abhängig von der Geschwindigkeit der IDE-Festplatte und des USBControllers des PCs) mehrere MByte/s möglich.
Wird das externe Gehäuse an einem USB1.1-Port betrieben, so ist eine Datenübertragungsgeschwindigkeit von bis zu 1MByte/s erreichbar.
• Auf dem Gehäuse steht eine Power-LED (leuchtet bei angeschlossener Stromversorgung)
und eine Zugriffs-LED (leuchtet bei Zugriffen auf die 2.5"-IDE-Festplatte) zur Verfügung.
• Die Stromversorgung allein über das USB-Kabel (ohne das zusätzlich mitgelieferte USBStromkabel) ist in Einzelfällen möglich. Allerdings steht dem Vorteil, dass nur ein Kabel erforderlich ist und nur ein USB-Port belegt wird, die Gefahr der Beschädigung von USB-Port,
externem Gehäuse bzw. 2.5"-IDE-Festplatte gegenüber.
Verwenden Sie deshalb immer beide Kabel zur Stromversorgung des externen
Festplattengehäuses.
Partitioning and Formatting
If you have installed an unformatted "new" IDE hard disk in the external casing, you have to
partition the hard disk prior to using it.
With Windows 98/98SE/ME, start the "MS-DOS input prompt" (e.g. located at
Start/Programs/Accessories).
If the message "Size of the hard disk exceeds 512 MB", confirm this with "y".
Select "5. current hard disk change" and select the new hard disk. Then establish a new partition via the menu point "1.".
Older versions of FDISK have problems with the detection of hard disks larger than approx. 64
GByte. The capacity is displayed wrongly. Ignore the false display and continue partitioning. If
you want to establish several partitions, you might have to state the partition size in percent
with older versions of FDISK in connection with hard disks larger than 64 GByte (entry of e.g.
"5000" for 5000 MByte/5 GByte does not work). Simply enter "10%" in order to create an 8
GByte partition with an 80 GByte hard disk.
You have to restart Windows afterwards.
After restarting, you can format the hard disk respectively the individual partitions in the
Windows file explorer (select the right hard disk/partition, do not format a hard disk/partition
containing important data!). Or you can start the MS-DOS prompt again and format the hard
disk/partition with the MS-DOS command "Format".
With Windows XP, partitioning/formatting is very simple via the computer respectively data
carrier management.
Installation of a 2.5 " IDE hard disk
Open the casing. To do so, remove the plastic trim with the interface openings by unscrewing
the little screws. A matching miniature screwdriver is contained in the delivery.
Handling
Avoid the following adverse environmental conditions at the installation site or during transport.
- Dampness or excess humidity
- Extreme heat or cold, direct sunlight
- Dust or flammable gasses, vapors or solvents.
- Strong vibrations, blows, hits
- strong magnetic fields like in proximity to machines/loudspeakers
If applicable, check the master/slave setting of the 2.5" hard disk (the hard disk must be set
to "Master", which is the case with all new 2.5" hard disks).
When installing the product, make sure you do not bend or squash any cables.
Pug the 2.5" hard disk onto the 44-pole connection on the board.
Cleaning
Only one direction is correct; it must be possible to slide the hard disk with the
attached interface converter/back into the aluminium casing. The brad plug may not
be plugged onto the pin bar of the hard disk the wrong way around.
Slide the board with the hard disk back into the casing. Only one orientation is correct. It must
be easy to attach the trim on the back, do not use any force!
Screw the back back onto the casing.
Driver Installation
Driver installation is not required with Windows ME/XP. The necessary drivers are contained in
Windows. Simply connect the external casing to the PC, see below.
With Windows 98/98SE, insert the provided driver CD into the corresponding PC drive. If the
installation routine does not start automatically, execute the program "Autorun.exe" in the main
directory on the CD (file name/procedure may change with newer versions of the driver CD).
Connection to the PC
You must use a USB port that features its own power supply (USB port of the mainboard
respectively USB hub with own power pack). According tot he USB standard, such USB ports
("high-power USB ports") can provide a current of maximum 500 mA each.
However, a modern 2.5" IDE hard disk mostly requires a current of approx. 900 mA (0.9 A).
Use a clean, dry and soft cloth for leaning the product.
Tips and Notices
• USB devices allow you to plug-in and unplug during operation.
However, please note that data may possibly be damaged if you unplug the connection cable
during loading/saving.
With Windows ME/XP, an arrow symbol appears in the menu bar that serves to tell Windows
to "separate" the USB device. In doing so, the data transfers are terminated and open files
closed. Afterwards, you can unplug the connection cable.
• With USB2.0 (depending on the speed of the IDE hard drive and the USB controller of the PC)
several MByte/s are possible.
If the external casing is operated on a USB1.1 port, it is possible to achieve a data transfer
rate of up to 1 MByte/s
• There is a power LED on the casing (lit when the power supply is connected) and an access
LED (lit when accessing the 2.5" IDE hard drive).
• Power supply alone via the USB cable (without the additional provided USB power cable) is
possible in individual cases. However, although it is an advantage to only have to use one
cable and only occupy one USB port, there is a risk of damage to the USB port, the external
casing respectively the 2.5" IDE hard disk.
Therefore, always use both cables for the power supply of the external hard disk
casing.
Therefore, use both cables (USB cable and USB power cable) for connecting the external casing to the PC, as one port alone is normally not capable of providing such a high current.
IN case of excess current, the mainboard or the USB hub might shut down the
respective USB port. In very rare cases, the USB port and the external casing with
the 2.5" IDE hard disk may become damaged.
For connection, proceed as follows:
• Connect the USB cable and the USB power cable with the external casing.
• Plug both plugs (USB plug and USB power plug) into a USB port each of the PC respectively
USB hub.
Bei einem zu hohen Strom kann es vorkommen, dass das Mainboard oder der USBHub den jeweiligen USB-Port abschaltet. In sehr seltenen Einzelfällen könnte der
USB-Port und das externe Gehäuse mit der 2.5"-IDE-Festplatte beschädigt werden.
• Verbinden Sie das USB-Kabel und das USB-Stromkabel mit dem externen Gehäuse.
• Stecken Sie die beiden USB-Stecker von USB-Kabel und USB-Stromkabel jeweils in einen
USB-Port von PC bzw. USB-Hub.

Features
Bei Windows XP ist die Partitionierung/Formatierung über die Computerverwaltung bzw.
Datenträgerverwaltung sehr einfach möglich.
Zum Anschluss des externen Gehäuses an den PC müssen deshalb beide Kabel (USB-Kabel
und USB-Stromkabel) verwendet werden, da ein Port allein normalerweise nicht in der Lage
ist, den hohen Strom zu liefern.

Utilisation conforme
Un disque dur IDE 2,5 pouces peut être intégré dans le produit qui fonctionne via une interface USB (USB2.0 ou 1.1). L´alimentation électrique s´effectue par USB.

Partitionnement et formatage
Lorsque vous avez monté un « nouveau » disque dur IDE non formaté dans le boîtier externe,
partitionner le disque dur avant l´utilisation.
Pour Windows 98/98SE/ME, démarrez « invite MS-DOS » qui se trouve, par ex., sous «
Démarre/Programmes/accessoires).
Si un message apparaît « ….taille du disque dur dépasse 512 MB… », validez celui-ci par oui
« O ».
Choisissez « 5. changer le disque dur actuel », sélectionnez le nouveau disque dur. Créez
ensuite une nouvelle partition via l´option de menu « 1 ».
Les versions FDISK plus anciennes ont des difficultés à reconnaître les disques durs d´une
capacité supérieure à 65Go. La capacité affichée sera fausse. Ignorez l´affichage incorrect et
poursuivez le partitionnement. Si vous voulez créer plusieurs partitions, il peut arriver que vous
soyez obligé d´indiquer la taille de partition en pourcentage (l´entrée « 5000 » par ex. pour 5000
Mo/5Go ne fonctionne pas!) pour les versions FDISK plus anciennes, associées aux disques
durs supérieurs à 64Go. Entrez simplement 10% pour créer une partition de 8Go pour un
disque dur de 80Go.
Puis redémarrez Windows.
Après redémarrage, vous pouvez formater le disque dur ou les partitions individuelles dans
l´explorateur de fichiers Windows (sélectionner le disque dur/la partition corrects, ne formatez
aucun disque dur/aucune partition contenant des données importantes !). Ou bien vous pouvez redémarrer « invite MS-DOS » et formater le disque dur /la partition avec l´ordre MS-DOS
« Format ».
Caractéristiques

Montage d´un disque dur IDE 2,5 pouces
Ouvrez le boîtier. Retirez, pour cela, le capot en plastique avec les ouvertures pour interface
en dévissant les petites vis correspondantes. Un minitournevis approprié est compris dans la
livraison.
Contrôlez, si nécessaire, le réglage « Maître » et « Esclave » du disque dur 2,5 pouces, ce dernier doit être paramétré sur « Maître » (réglage valable pour tous les disques durs 2,5 pouces
tout neufs.
Placez le disque dur 2,5 pouces sur le connecteur à 44 broches de la platine.
Une seule orientation est correcte ; le disque dur, pourvu du convertisseur d´interface connecté au dos, doit pouvoir s´insérer dans le boîtier d´aluminium ; ne pas décaler le connecteur large sur les barrettes à broches du disque dur !
Replacez la platine avec le disque dur dans la boîtier. Une seule orientation est correcte ; le
capot situé sur la face arrière doit pouvoir se monter facilement, ne pas forcer !
Pour finir, revissez à fond la face arrière sur le boîtier.
Installation des pilotes
Pour Windows ME/XP, aucune installation de pilotes n´est requise. Les pilotes utiles sont intégrés dans Windows. Connectez simplement le boîtier externe à l´ordinateur, voir ci-dessous.
Pour Windows 98/98SE, insérez le CD de pilotes fourni dans le lecteur correspondant de votre
ordinateur. Si le programme d´installation devait ne pas démarrer automatiquement, exécutez
le programme « autorun.exe » dans le dossier principal du CD (nom de fichier et méthode
d´installation peuvent éventuellement varier pour des versions de CD de pilotes plus récentes).
Pour Windows XP, il est possible d´effectuer facilement le partitionnement et le formatage via
la gestion des ordinateurs ou la gestion des supports.
Maniement
Il convient d'éviter les conditions défavorables suivantes au niveau du site d'installation ou lors
du transport :
- présence d'eau ou humidité relative de l'air trop élevée,
- froid ou chaleur extrêmes, exposition aux rayons directs du soleil,
- poussière ou gaz inflammables, vapeurs ou solvants inflammables,
- vibrations importantes, coups, chocs,
- champs magnétiques intenses à proximité de machines ou de haut-parleurs, par ex.
Lors de l’installation du produit, veillez à ce que les câbles ne soient ni coudés ni écrasés.
Nettoyage
Un chiffon propre, sec et doux suffit pour nettoyer le produit.
Conseils & indications
• Les appareils USB peuvent être enfichés ou débranchés lorsque le PC est en marche.
Notez cependant que les fichiers peuvent éventuellement être endommagés lorsque vous
retirez le câble de connexion lors du téléchargement ou de la mémorisation.
Pour Windows ME/XP, un symbole avec une flèche, permettant d´ordonner à Windows de
déconnecter l´appareil USB, apparaît dans la barre des menus. Lors cette opération de
déconnexion, les transmissions des données sont arrêtées et les fichiers ouverts fermés.
Ensuite, vous pouvez débrancher sans danger le câble de connexion.
• Pour USB2.0, un transfert de plusieurs Mo est possible (en fonction de la vitesse du disque
dur IDE et du contrôleur USB de l´ordinateur.
Si le boîtier externe fonctionne sur un port USB1.1, il est possible d´atteindre une vitesse de
transmission de 1Mo.
• Vous disposez d´une diode DEL « Power » (s´allume lorsque l´alimentation électrique est raccordée) et d´une DEL d´accès (s´allume en cas d´accès au disque dur IDE 2,5 pouces) sur le
boîtier.
Raccordement à l´ordinateur
Pour le branchement, utiliser un port USB qui dispose d´une alimentation électrique autonome
telle que le port USB de la carte mère ou du concentrateur USB équipé de son propre bloc d´alimentation). Ce type de ports USB (ports USB « High Power ») peuvent fournir, après le standard USB, chacun un courant de maximum 500mA.
• Dans des cas individuels, l´alimentation électrique peut s´effectuer uniquement par le biais
du câble USB (sans le câble d´alimentation USB supplémentaire fourni). Toutefois, le risque
d´endommager le port USB, le boîtier externe ou le disque dur IDE 2,5 pouces se voit confronté à l´avantage de ne nécessiter que d´un seul câble et d´une seule affectation du port USB.
Cependant, un disque dur actuel moderne IDE 2,5 pouces requiert un courant en général plus
élevé d´environ 900mA 80.9A).
Pour cette raison, utilisez toujours les deux câbles pour l´alimentation électrique du
boîtier externe pour disque dur.
Pour le branchement du boîtier externe, utiliser, pour cette raison, les deux câbles (câble USB
et câble d´alimentation USB) étant donné qu´un port seul n´est normalement pas en mesure de
délivrer un courant élevé.
Si ce courant est trop élevé, il peut arriver que la carte mère ou le concentrateur USB
désactivent le port USB respectif. Dans de très rares cas, le port USB et le boîtier
externe avec le disque dur IDE 2,5 pouces peuvent être endommagés.
Pour le branchement, procédez comme suit :
• Reliez le câble USB et le câble électrique USB au boîtier externe.
• Enfichez les deux connecteurs USB du câble USB et du câble d´alimentation USB chacun
dans un port USB de l´ordinateur ou du concentrateur USB.
