20 years of Expérience
Created in 1989, the school has not stopped evolving while at the same time keeping in line with
its characteristics: helping students master the techniques needed to work and function creatively
by fostering an education based on communication, mutual respect and autonomy. Since its
beginning, almost 2000 students have discovered their potential and found their professional
calling. Former students often contact the school and come back to share their stories and
experience.
Acknowledged Teaching Approach
Focusing on listening, exchange and experimentation, the school’s pedagogical approach is

Three Courses Certified by the State
Virtually all students in preparatory class choose a course that suits them and in which they succeed
in their studies. 75% of students graduating from their professional training find employment
within 6 months in France or Europe. These statistics have led to the state certification of the
Digital Artist course by in 1997 (since renewed). On June 23 2006 and August 27 2008, three other
courses were certified in the Official Journal: Digital Artist (Level III), Web Designer Producer
(Level II) and 3D Director (Level II).
Team of Passionate Teachers
Teachers at the school are professionals in their field who come from various backgrounds such
as the arts, applied arts, the world of communication or multimedia. They actively transmit their
knowledge, competence and experience in class where students benefit from a close and privileged
working relationship with them.
Prestigious Guest Lecturers
The school regularly invites renowned professionals, such as: Alain BARAQUE (Plan Fixe), Ruedi
BAUR, Michel BOUVET, Tadeusz LEWANDOWSKI, Alain Le QUERNEC, Philippe QUINTON and
Thierry SARFA just to name a few. They are often part of graduation juries or come to the school
to conduct workshops or conferences on specific themes.
Network of Companies and Institutions
The school has established the necessary relationships with major companies in the region and
SMEs specialized in visual communication and multimedia. Approximately 500 firms are ready
and present to welcome our students for observational or production based internships. Some
internships even lead to eventual employment.
The numerous job offers that are received by the school are sent to former students.
Based on the success rate of graduation and recruitment, our partner institutions or the state often
recommend us to young people and adults seeking retraining and professional reorientation.
In Addition to Courses
Every student benefits from bulk purchases of supplies, loan of equipment (cameras, digital cameras,
etc) books and documents. Students have access to computer rooms, the photo lab, workshops,
connection to unlimited High Speed Internet, Wi-Fi, A4 and A3 colour printing etc. They can also
participate throughout the year in cultural excursions (museums, contemporary art and design
biennales, cultural weekends, special exhibitions.
Open House
Our premises are open to visitors to discover the school and the work of students on the last
Saturday of each month from January 2009, 11 am to 4 pm (ie, 31/01, 28/02, 28/03 etc).
The school’s premises and facilities will be specifically done over for the Open House Days on
Thursday April 30, Friday May 1 and Saturday 2 May 2009, from 9 am to 7 pm.
Preparatory
Class
While gaining knowledge in different fields of creation, students develop their curiosity and their autonomy.
The classes take place through a sequence of workshops where everyone is encouraged to extend the theoretical
input through varied experimentation with their work. The learning methodology is based on a project where personal
commitment and responsibility are keys to success. Certain subjects are designed to coincide at times, to enable
students to put each subject into perspective in an enlarged cross-disciplinary framework. The diversity of content
and the exposure to the reality of the industry allows everyone to choose their own particular orientation.
Evaluation
This is a continuous process throughout
the course. Students’ works are assessed
throughout the year in each subject and
at the end of each cross-disciplinary project.
Finally, the student portfolio of projects
is presented to and evaluated by a panel
of professionals.

FÒ rom our marvellous machines are born forests
of signs and messages, a jungle that is verbose
and sometimes false. With a critical eye, the graphic
designer sees a clearing in the plethora, and gives
a purer sense to the signs of the city. He breathes the
world, soaks it in and accompanies it in its evolution.
Actor and active, patient and attentive, he engages
with his creative response an assumed responsibility
towards others : entrepreneurs, decision makers,
habitants, citizens. If Supcrea proposes a long course
in graphic design is to assist future professionals
in the construction of a collective project nourished
by these values. We hope to do as much for the
students and for our teachers in terms of our openness,
engagement, attention and solidarity.
We set excellence as the horizon, particularly for
a professional culture that is rich in exchange:
dialogues, meetings, internships and shared projects.
Inventive and passionate support guarantees course
coherence without stiffness while at the same time
transmitting knowledge without imposing norms.
We guide students in their self construction. We offer
nothing less than to open a path to all the necessary
know-how and how-to-be to help transform an
education process into a life project.
Graphic Design offers this generous and attentive
attitude.”
Graphic
Design
1
During this first year of discovery and exploration, students acquire the necessary fundamental knowledge to develop
pertinent visual messages. Projects focus primarily on printed media. Knowledge acquisition is reinforced by a process
of reflection and research notably on the understanding of cultural references. Through classes, workshops and
a workman internship, cross-disciplinary subjects target the necessary personal commitment of the student. Deeply
organized around themes that feed on artistic practices, the lessons lead to the students questioning of the graphics
field and other fields of creation.
Student comments
“In typography our teacher pushed us to experiment and to
actually use different materials. One of the interesting aspects
of the creative process is the aspect of chance and hazard.
We see how we can use things that happen by accident.”
Evaluation
Students are continuously assessed
in each subject. A large part is based
on the internship report and two project
evaluations (in January and June) where
a panel assesses the student effort,
based on artistic relevance and quality
of a presented collection of work. Validation
of the year is decided by the entire teaching
staff.
Supervision
Personalized follow-up comes in the form
of student interviews: evaluating the role
and position of the student.
Creative Domains
Throughout the year several domains are covered: colour, creative writing, photography, artistic
practice (dance, sound, theatre, cinema), typography, scenography, etc. Conceived around a broad
theme, the lessons work to develop the cross-disciplinary projects.
Representation Techniques
Students learn to put a message to work using the different techniques of representation:
sketching, perspective, illustration, filming etc. The learning process feeds the different projects
students work on all through out the year.
Graphic Culture
This is dependent on the following inputs: plastic arts, history of graphic design,
semiotics, typography, print process technology, graphics software, theory of aesthetics
and history of ideas.
Thematic
The year is structured around three themes. For each theme, the creation orientated subjects on
are built on in a cross-disciplinary manner.
Workman Internship
This takes place over a period of 6 weeks in the print and publishing field and by the end of the
year students learn to master the printing process. Through observation and execution, students
learn the technical aspects of the printing process and the interaction between different actors.
This period ends with the students internship report that develops on problems encountered and
lessons learnt.
Graphic
Design
2
This second year brings students to deepen their knowledge of the printed media and learn about other means
of communication at the heart of their future careers: corporate identity, multimedia, moving images, etc. Group work,
real world projects as well as the assistant graphic designer internship places the student in a working context that
closely resembles that of a creative studio. The technical skills acquired constantly cross paths with the interpersonal
dimension of the creative process. Consultative meetings, respect for others and personal commitment permits the
elaboration of solutions enriched by each students personal investigation.
Evaluation
Continuous assessment is used in each
subject, alongside project evaluations
at the end of each of the three orders.
The evaluation of the internship report
and year-end jury panel presentation will
complete it. A student’s passage to the 3rd
year is decided on by the entire teaching
staff.
Supervision
Personalized supervision is maintained
through pedagogical interviews with the
student to evaluate their role and position.
Experimentation
The creative experiments of the first year continue and give rise to cross-disciplinary projects: typography,
print design, drawing, color, creative writing, illustration, artistic etc.
Techniques
The knowledge and understanding of print and publishing is followed by work around interactivity
(dreamweaver) and the moving image (video). These skills accquired will be used to work on different
projects.
Creative Brief
The conception, development and implementation of visual communication messages are built around
cÒ reative briefs ” set out by external associative or cultural partners of the school. Over 7 weeks, each
student strives to meet a client’s brief. A mixed jury of teachers and the external partners select the
most pertinent project which, once finalized, make its way into a public place.
The Assistant Graphic Designer Internship
This lasts 8 weeks, in a company where the student is supervised by a graphic designer. At the end of
this period students are required to write their internship report. Their field study is aimed at enriching
the dialogue and debate around the issues encountered during their internship.
Graphic
Design
3
After a year of experimentation, the third year of the graphic design is a true transition towards professionalization.
It focuses on project management as well as on the dynamism and autonomy of students. More cross disciplinary
than ever, the course closely combines the development of technical skills and personal reflection. The encounter
with the reality of the business is sharpened in third year through ‘lab sessions’ and a production based internship,
while developing on research and personal reflection, leading to graduation at the end of the 4th year.
Student comments
“Each year gets progressively more intense. In third year we’re in
the middle of concrete application. We need to be more rigorous
and more professional.”
Evaluation
Continuous evaluation is carried out
in each subject as well as at the end
of each threeÒlab sessions ” and the final
oral presentation.
Supervision
The personalized supervision hinges
on the student’s search for an internship,
the research study, the portfolio,
the scenography and oral presentation.
Areas of Intervention
In addition to print publishing, video, web design, illustration, typography and scenography, students
also tackle packaging. Lessons in graphic design are ongoing in connection with each of the subjects
alternating between class work and application through projects. Knowledge of the public, businesses,
semiotics, and the psychology of creativity is acquired to develop the relevant project propositions.
Lab Sessions
For two weeks, students work on a particular area of graphic design (posters, packaging, video etc.) as
part of a real client’s order, and develop a specific communications medium. They also receive theoretical
knowledge concerning the specifics of each project. As part of an internally supervised project, students
meet with a specialised professional for a day who helps them analyze and modify their project
proposals. These are then finalized before they are displayed in public.
Tutoring and the Dissertation
Contemplative work begins with the research study project. From a list of areas of reflection related to
graphic design, proposed by the teaching team, students begin their research and exploration. The aim
is to develop precise inquiring in the field of graphic design by the end of the year, which will be the
subject of the dissertation in the 4th year. Each student is accompanied by a tutor throughout the year.
Internship
The design production internship lasts 8 weeks. It is carried out with a design studio, agency or a local
collective. Where the internship is carried out is dependent on the student’s choice of specialisation
(print, advertising, moving image, web, etc.) and must be in relation to the final dissertation subject.
Validation of the 3rd Year
The assessment is continuous and takes place in each subject, and each of the three Lab Sessions. It
is completed before the start of the internship with an exposition of all of the students work during year
and an oral presentation, evaluated by teachers and external professionals. The student’s transition to
the 4th year is decided and validated by the entire teaching team.
Graphic
Design
4
The fourth year of Graphic Design is a year of professionalization as well as a year of intense preparation for the students
who will graduate as graphic designers. The students work essentially on projects. The lessons are completed with
knowledge and understanding in human sciences in addition to the input of industry professionals.
Validation
The final validation of the four years
of Graphic Design is done before a jury
of professionals from the industry: the oral
and visual presentation of the internship
and personal project. The course is
validated by when student officially receive
their diploma as a state certified level III
Graphic Designer.
Supervision
Supervision is centred on the development
of the student’s portfolio, their internship
prospection, professional research
and preparation for the final presentation
and graduation.
Student comments
“The assignments are often submitted in the form of an
exposition for all to see. So you really have to be clear and
precise in the explication of your creative process as it is really
important to share our ideas and get constructive feedback.
Applied Graphic Practice
A more intense version of 3rd Year Lab Sessions, Applied Graphic Practice allows students in the 4th
year to combine and manage, hands on, six different professional projects throughout the year (signage,
packaging, posters, video, multimedia and visual identity). These projects could be elaborated by the
teachers and tutors or by responding to real client needs. Each ‘Applied Graphic Practice’ project will
then be the object of a well structured and thought-out oral presentation.
Professionalization
Throughout the year, professionals work with students to inform them about their future profession:
quoting a client, contracting agencies, business ethics, a visit to the Design of Centre Rhône-Alpes,
meetings with graphic designers and information on legal and professional statutes.
Tutoring and the Dissertation
Students continue to refine their research from the 3rd year in a specific domain of graphic design in
view of their specialization. This reflection is formalized through a dissertation and the development of
a graphic product, with a practical application of the theory developed by the student. The dissertation
is the subject of numerous projects that have been evaluated. The dissertation and the graphic product
are then presented for validation before graduation. Each student is monitored throughout the year by
a tutor.
Internship
The production internships lasts 12 weeks, again the choice of job training placement is defined by the
professional orientation desired by the student, as well as the research topic being worked on.
Graduation
Graduation involves the conceptualization of a personal space using techniques of scenography,
reflecting the work of each student. This scenographic use of space is the subject of specific preparation
(presentation and validation of project, tutoring and supervision). It is in this space that the student does
an oral presentation and defends the internship project as well as his personal project, before the jury
panel.
