Leroy Merlin - Comarch EDI
Leroy Merlin,
Optimization of Good Reception with DESADV and SSCC
Leroy Merlin began operating in Poland in 1994, in 1996 it
opened its first point of sale – in Piaseczno near Warsaw.
In 2012, Leroy Merlin had 43 stores in Poland, with store areas
from 6,000 to 18,000 m2, in large and medium-sized cities.
Leroy Merlin is a part of GROUPE ADEO. Currently, the distributor
comes second in Europe and fourth in the world in its industry.
GROUPE ADEO has large construction and home improvement
stores (Leroy Merlin), small and medium-sized stores (AKI,
Bricocenter, Weldom), warehouse stores (Bricoman, Bricomart)
and others (DomPro, Zodio Kbane).
Customer needs
Leroy Merlin has a 56,000 m2 distribution center in Stryków, Poland
with 68 loading/unloading bays. It distributes goods to Leroy Merlin
stores all over Poland. The purpose of the project was to launch
an electronic advice system combined with logistic labels for
cross-docking deliveries to the distribution center. The aim of the
implementation was to help introduce uniform labels and optimize
the work in the warehouse by shortening the time needed for
delivery acceptance. The requirements covered the management
of various types of labels, including collective labels.
Additionally, it was important to find a solution that would not require
suppliers, who are mostly SMEs, to invest a lot of money and time
in the project and it should provide them with ongoing support
after implementation.
Comarch EDI
Leroy Merlin has been using Comarch EDI to exchange orders and
invoices with suppliers since 2006 – the chain interchanges about
200,000 documents with a group of 700 suppliers every month.
Additionally, Comarch EDI Archive offers invoice archiving in accordance
with the relevant laws.
This is why a decision was made to develop the functions of Comarch
EDI Web – the web application which suppliers use to receive, create
and send invoices.
The modified solution has made it possible to:
Automatically generate – based on received orders – dispatch
advice (DESADV) notes in conformity with the specification of
Leroy Merlin; it also allows creating one dispatch advice note for
several orders
Create logistic units specific for Leroy Merlin (such as a pallet,
a parcel, a roll) where the SSCC is entered automatically/
manually, and to specify which units are superior (in the case
of a collective label)
Quickly and easily assign lines from the purchase order to
specific logistic units and to specify the quantities of goods
to be “packed.” Additionally – to pack non-packed goods with
one click
Send dispatch advice notes and view current information about
processing statuses. Validate the documents for conformity with
Leroy Merlin’s requirements to reduce the number of documents
containing errors
Print a logistic label that is in accordance with the template
specified by Leroy Merlin directly from the web application
(without the need to install on-site applications) on label printers
(for instance Zebra, Sato) and office printers
Comarch’s Project Manager has prepared a user guide for every
supplier participating in the project. Additionally, consultants from
Comarch’s EDI HelpDesk help suppliers solve any problems.
Furthermore, the Comarch EDI Tracking module enables Leroy Merlin
to track and verify the accuracy of documents exchanged with their
business partners. Ongoing access to information reduces the time
required to clarify inaccurate or lost documents.
EDI
Benefits
Customer’s opinion
The application of an electronic advice system with logistic labels
has brought the following benefits:
Quicker initial inspection of deliveries (by 10-25 minutes)
Shorter administrative work (by 15-35 mins/delivery)
Quicker delivery data transfer (DESADV)
Faster identification of nonconforming labels
More easily readable labels
Possibility of accepting/sending part of a purchase order
No printing of paper dispatch advice (DESADV) documents –
savings over 1 tonne of paper in the first year of the project
Suppliers using WEB-EDI (Comarch EDI) – the cost of expanding
the application covered by Leroy Merlin – ROI was 4-6 months
“Leroy Merlin recommends Comarch as the supplier of solutions for
