2015
Created in 1902, the Clos du Marquis is an historical
Médoc brand. It has its origins in the "Petit Clos" adjacent
to the Chateau de Leoville, home of the Marquis de Las
Cases. The Clos du Marquis comes from the best terroirs of
Saint-Julien that were not part of the former Leoville
estate. These terroirs, physically separated from those of
Las Cases, are located further west and surrounded by
many prestigious Second Classified Growths. The Clos du
Marquis thus displays typical great Saint-Julien
characteristics: structure, complexity, balance, harmony,
distinction and great ageing potential. Château Leoville
Las Cases therefore comprises two properties with distinct
terroir characteristics, producing two "Premiers Vins" with
very different tastes, despite an obvious affiliation.
Créé en 1902, le Clos du Marquis est une marque
historique du Médoc. Elle trouve son origine dans le "Petit
Clos" attenant au Château de Léoville, demeure du
Marquis de Las Cases. Le Clos du Marquis provient des
meilleurs terroirs de l'Appellation Saint-Julien qui ne
faisaient pas partie du cadastre de l'ancien Domaine de
Léoville. Ces terroirs, physiquement séparés de ceux de Las
Cases, se situent légèrement plus à l'ouest et sont entourés
de prestigieux Seconds Crus Classés. Le Clos du Marquis
exprime ainsi parfaitement la typicité des grands SaintJulien :structure, complexité, harmonie, équilibre,
distinction et capacité de garde. Le Château Léoville Las
Cases comprend donc bien deux propriétés avec des
caractéristiques de terroir distinctes et produit par
conséquent deux premiers vins de gouts différents, malgré
une filiation évidente.

LE MILLÉSIME / VINTAGE 2015
The hot and sunny weather of April set off a rapid budburst. Then all the key stages proceeded in ideal
conditions: quick flowering, very even colour change for
each of the grape varieties. An incredibly beautiful weather
stayed with us during all the growth cycle. We observed a
perfect hydric stress early July, very beneficial for the
synthesis of the polyphenol precursors. The ripening
process continued through a mild and quite dry month of
September, ensuring the grapes maintained a great
concentration and a wonderful aromatic freshness.

Pour faire du Clos du Marquis un cru à part entière, il
possède maintenant son second vin. Le grand vin affiche
un beau nez complexe. Le vin est dense et moelleux avec
un superbe milieu de bouche et une fort belle finale. il a été

The removal of around 15-20% into La Petite Marquise has
helped this wine to become finer, longer, more persistent
and also more packed with fruit. This is a very successful
exercise in making two better wines from already good
one. Clos du Marquis is a triumph in this vintage. The
length is sensational and the intensity of flavour never
drops off. It is situated on classic Saint-Julien terroir
(unlike Las Cases, which somehow seems more Pauillaclike) and it shows the clear Saint-Julien flavour palette in

The 2015 Le Clos du Marquis emerges exclusively from
30+ year-old vines on the property. Lavender, violet, plum,
crème de cassis, spice and menthol meld together in a
deep, beautifully layered Saint-Julien built on spherical
texture and juiciness. Silky tannins give the 2015 its upfront, racy personality, while sweet floral notes add
aromatic lift on the finish. This is a very pretty and
