MONTREUX INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS CLUB Electric vehicles
MONTREUX INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS CLUB INVITATION Science & Research Electric vehicles: back to the future? Véhicules électriques : retour vers le futur? The first electric car was made in 1900 Why is it only now that electric vehicles are taken seriously? And what about driverless cars in the future? Le premier véhicule électrique date de 1900 ! Pourquoi fallait-il attendre jusqu’à maintenant pour prendre au sérieux ces véhicules électriques ? Quel sera le futur des voitures sans pilote ? François Vuille Directeur Développement de l'Energy Center de l’EPFL en français et en anglais Lundi 12 septembre – Fairmont le Montreux Palace – 11h30 François Vuille PhD is Development Director at the Energy Centre of the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), where he acts as business developer, researcher and lecturer. He has been working in the sustainable energy sector since 2001. His current research activities focus on understanding the prospects and barriers (technical, policy, regulatory and socio-economic) of novel energy and clean technologies. He has acquired a deep understanding of the global energy challenges and the potential of innovative technology to play a role in energy transitions. In recent years, François has helped financial organisations to understand the complexities and to seize opportunities in the cleantech sector. He is also the lead author of two major reports commissioned by the International Energy Agency (IEA) and of two books on the Swiss energy transition. He is a founder and a Board Director of two technology companies – Softcar Ltd and Proxipel Ltd – which are active in the electric mobility and bioenergy sectors respectively. François has worked with leading car manufactures, power utilities, major oil firms, financial organisations (including the World Bank) and governments (Swiss, UK, Chile, European Commission and China), as well as with non-governmental and international organisations such as the International Energy Agency, the European Space Agency and the United Nations. He speaks French, English and German, as well as some Spanish and Swiss German. Gordon Douglas, co-president of the MIB, “discovered” François’s talent as a presenter at the Ecovillages Forum in Les Diablerets, at which François spoke in 2014 and again in 2015. We are delighted that he has agreed to present to the MIB.
