Jean Vigier, Juge Royal de Sainte-Foy-la-Grande, acheta la propriété
à la Duchesse de la Rochefoucauld, Dame de Saussignac. Il débuta
la construction du Château en 1597, sur les vestiges d’une ancienne
place forte du XIIème siècle. En 1621, sa fille, Marguerite a terminé
la construction en ajoutant le magnifique pigeonnier hexagonal.

Jean Vigier, one of the King’s judges in nearby Sainte-Foy-laGrande, acquired the estate from the Duchesse de la Rochefoucauld,
Dame de Saussignac. He started building the Château in 1597,
incorporating a few remaining elements from an earlier 12th century
fort. It was his daughter, Margaret, who, in 1621, put the finishing
touch with the addition of the magnificent hexagonal dovecot.

The elegant Dépendances contain 11 Junior Suites and 11 Standard
rooms, each a unique blend of warm Perigourdine stone and ancient
oak beams, warm terracotta tiles and cool smooth marble. The
suites are designed as mezzanines with families in mind, with
bedroom and bathroom upstairs and living room below.

Donald Steel, the noted golf course architect, designed the original 18
hole course with the Château as its centrepiece. Later he added another
9 holes, so that, with three nine-hole loops, we offer three 18 hole
experiences, threading through plum orchards, oak woods, the vineyard
and around the lakes. Our competitions are renowned as much for their
friendliness as for their high standards and the beauty of the grounds.
