T
he series Corpus Christianorum in Translation (CCT) provides
modern translations of patristic and medieval Greek and Latin
texts that have been edited in one of the Corpus Christianorum
series (Series Latina, Series Graeca and Continuatio Mediaevalis).
The target languages are English, French, German, Italian and
Spanish. These translations, which are published independently
from the critical editions, are intended to render the texts
edited in Corpus Christianorum accessible to those who do not
have the opportunity to read them in the original language. For
those conversant with the source language, the translations can
serve as a tool for quick reference and an aid in interpreting the
Greek or Latin text.
L
a collection Corpus Christianorum in Translation (CCT) offre

educational system of twelfth-century Paris.
Peter Abelard - An Exposition on the Six-day Work
Introduction, translation and notes by

130 p., 156 x 234 mm, 2011, CCT 8, PB, ISBN 978-2-503-53511-1, English, € 35
This unusual work gives priority to the historical over the allegorical sense, and
bears strong affinities to the writings of Thierry of Chartres and other twelfth
century students of the natural sciences. As such, it is evidence both for the
general state of twelfth century knowledge of cosmology, and for the quality
of scholarship available in particular to a community of women religious.

“This is a book that should be in the library of any institution which sees medieval
theology as part of intellectual and cultural history, or where biblical studies is taught
while taking the reception of the text seriously.”
Thomas O’Loughlin in: The Medieval Review 14.04.05

William Durand (c. 1230-Nov. 1, 1296), Bishop of Mende, France, was
unquestionably the most renowned liturgical scholar of the later Middle
Ages. His encyclopedic allegorical exposition of the rites and worship

for the divine offices,” is the best known medieval work in its genre.

Tyconius - Commentaire de l’Apocalypse
Introduction, traduction et notes par Roger Gryson
220 p., 156 x 234 mm, 2011, CCT 10, PB, ISBN 978-2-503-54068-9, French, € 50

An Anonymous Dialogue with a Jew

The work is a translation of the Greek text entitled Anonymus dialogus cum
Iudaeis, edited by José Declerck in CCSG 30. The translation is divided into
thirteen chapters following the original structure of the book and the edition
by Declerck. Brief footnotes accompany the text in order to clarify matters
of translation. Indexes of Scripture, ancient documents, names, and subjects
complete the work.
Anastasios of Sinai - Questions and Answers
Introduction, translation and notes by Joseph A. Munitiz
264 p., 156 x 234 mm, 2011, CCT 7, PB,
ISBN 978-2-503-53512-8, English, € 50
The Questions and Answers, presented here
for the first time in an English version, form
a surprising text. Although put together
some thirteen centuries ago (c. 700 A.D.), in
what was then a territory newly overrun by
Moslem invaders, they retain an astonishing
topicality: many of the questions asked at
that time by people who had problems with
religious beliefs and practices are still being
asked today.
Rustico - Contro gli Acefali

252 p., 156 x 234 mm, 2014, CCT 17, PB,

Maximus the Confessor - Ambigua to Thomas
and Second Letter to Thomas
Introduction, translation and notes by Joshua Lollar
144 p., 156 x 234 mm, 2010, CCT 2, PB, ISBN 978-2-503-53154-0, English, € 35
The Ambigua to Thomas are a collection of chapters devoted to the exposition
of passages from Gregory Nazianzen and Ps. Denys the Areopagite. Maximus
uses the texts as a means of expounding the meaning of the perfect union of
divinity and humanity in the one Christ, arriving ultimately at an interpretation
of the phrase from Denys, which affirmed that Christ “conducted his life
among us according to a certain new theandric activity.”
Theognostos - Treasury
Introduction, translation and notes by Joseph A. Munitiz
229 p., 156 x 234 mm, 2013, CCT 15, PB, ISBN 978-2-503-53396-4, German, € 50
310 p., 156 x 234 mm, 2014, CCT 16, PB, ISBN 978-2-503-55106-7, English, € 50
This semi-encyclopaedic work was intended to provide an overview of the
sort of knowledge considered essential for a young prince, as one chapter
is an exhortation to a future emperor. Thus it contains a summary of the
Old Testament, with curious reflections (e.g. on female wickedness and the
ingenuity of Solomon), and chapters on dogmatic questions: the divinity of
Christ; the value of Holy Scripture; the sacraments, icons, the Theotokos,
and the key role of the Ecumenical Councils. A large part is made up of
moral exhortations attributed partly to Amphilochios and backed by pious
stories. There are also florilegia focused around the eucharist, the priesthood,
sexual morality and confession.
