Do’s and don’ts
Do!
1. decide on an area in which you want to work
2. check out the university department
3. find professors to work with. Look at their websites, download their
articles. It’s the individual professor who finances you. Get to know
him/them.
4.The graduate advisor can help.
5. Try to find a professor who has already worked with EC Lille students.
6. Contact the students who have worked with him
6. Prepare the TOEFL (ibT) and GRE – bad scores mean no entry

Don’t
1. …..ask a professor about finance. He won’t/can’t answer.
2…… assume they want to recruit you. The French grandes
écoles system is 99% unknown outside France. So are the
classes préparatoires
3. …..forget that there are roughly 10 students for every
place in a Masters program. How can you stand out? What
are your strong points? Sell yourself!
4…….say that you’re not interested by a possible PhD.
Research is the primary function of the major universities
and the main factor in their ranking.

 Am I prepared to stay for a PhD ?
 If I’m not financed 100% immediately, can I afford it?
ASK THE STUDENTS WHO ARE ALREADY FOLLOWING A MASTERS/PhD
COURSE !!!!!!!!!!!! THEY KNOW THE ANSWERS………
