Paper Airplane Contest Saturday, October 17, 2015 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Fieldhouse GENERAL INFORMATION The Paper Airplane Contest is hosted by grade 5 students Zefer Jordison and Lea Schwarz and the City of Yellowknife. The entry fee is $2.00 payable in cash at the event. There is no pre-registration. There are two separate competitions: longest distance and longest airtime. Participants will be grouped by age upon arrival. Thank you to our volunteer event staff and to our sponsors Air Tindi and Creative Basics. RULES FOR BOTH COMPETITTIONS: Paper planes have to be built on site with the official paper provided. Paper planes must be constructed out of one piece of paper only. The sheet may be modified by folding only! No ripping, gluing, cutting, stapling or ballasting is allowed. Come prepared with a plane plan. Searching on the internet at the event is not permitted. Participants must write their name on the plane. The plane must be launched by one person unaided throwing the plane from a reasonably static position. The participant needs to have at least one foot firmly on the ground during the attempt. A run-up or fast walk as part of the launch is not permitted, nor is the use of ramps or like devices. No mechanisms are permitted. LONGEST DISTANCE: The longest distance will be measured with a standardized tape measure. Two trials per participant are allowed; the better attempt counts.
